Police arrest 12 for possessing illegal weapons

RAWALPINDI, Nov 30 (APP): Rawalpindi district police on the directives of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Operations Rawalpindi conducted raids in different areas and netted 12 accused for possessing nine pistols 30 bores, a carbine, a Kalashnikov, ammunition and other items.

According to a police spokesman, Rattaamral, Sadiqabad, Morgah, Taxila, Wah Cantt, Mandra, Chontra, Chakri and Airport police conducted a raid and arrested Khadim, Umar, Abid, Ali Shah, Shafique, Shah Zaib, Siddique, Haq Nawaz, Ubaid Amjid, Hassan Shehzad, Hamid and Muhammad Ishaq and recovered nine pistols 30 bore, a carbine, a Kalashnikov, ammunition and other items.

The SSP said that strict action in accordance with the law was being taken against the lawbreakers and operations against aerial firing and illegal weapon holders would continue.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is the only political party which has strong roots in common people’s hearts and minds.

In a message on the 56th Foundation day of PPP, “It is PPP which reflects the true aspirations of the poor, farmers, farm workers and the middle class living across Pakistan and imparts them the confidence to raise their voices for their rights, he added.

The Speaker also underscored that PPP continued its struggle under the leadership of Ms. Nusrat Bhutto and Ms. Benazir Bhutto after the martyrdom of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZAB).

“Benazir Bhutto Shaheed’s sacrifices for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan will always be written in golden words in history,” he said.

He said that PPP is the most popular party from Karachi to Kashmir and there are a large number of workers of the party who are working hard to achieve the mission of Quaid-e-Awam and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

“PPP always leads the country on the path of development and raises the standard of living of the downtrodden sections of the society whenever it forms governance,” he added.

Raja Pervez also paid tribute to the unforgettable sacrifices of the leaders and workers of PPP for the restoration of democracy and the promotion of democratic values in the country.

He said that the PPP conferred this nation and country with a unanimous constitution and laid the foundations of the nuclear program, besides establishing a network of universities, educational institutions, and hospitals.

The Speaker said that the PPP believes in expediency and the power of the people and the party also remained successful in enactment of the 18th Amendment with the support of other political parties.

He also emphasized that it proved that PPP believes in people, democracy and the strength of federal units.

The Speaker urged the workers of the PPP to disseminate the ideology and message of the people’s leader Shaheed ZAB known in every house under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Shan Masood promoted in PCB’s central contract list

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has upgraded Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood’s category in the central contract list from D to B.

The decision has been made in line with the board’s policy that if a centrally contracted player below A or B categories is appointed captain, their contract would be upgraded to category B for the tenure of their captaincy, said a press release.

The 34-year-old Shan was named Test captain on November 15, until the conclusion of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. The left-handed batter has featured in 30 Tests, amassing 1,597 runs and will lead Pakistan in his first assignment as captain in the upcoming three-match series against Australia, commencing from December 14.

Full schedule: 1st Test– Perth, December 14-18; 2nd Test– Melbourne, December 26-30; 3rd Test– Sydney, January 3-7, 2024.

Food Authority discards 340 litres adulterated milk, 200 cartons of counterfeit milkpack

PESHAWAR, Nov 30 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Thursday discarded 340 litres of adulterated milk and 200 cartons having 1300 litres of harmful milk during raids in Peshawar Charsadda and Nowshera.

The spokesman of KP Food Authority said that inspection teams got milk samples tested from mobile testing labs at Warsak Road and University Town here and found adulteration of water in more than 340 litres of milk. The teams confiscated the milk and discarded it on the spot.

Another team of the Food Authority conducted a raid on a warehouse of a renowned Milkpack distributor in Sherpao Bazar in district Charsadda and recovered 200 cartons filled with 1300 litres of harmful milk packs.

The team impounded the cartons and sealed the warehouse while a case was registered against the owners, said the spokesperson.

In district Nowshera, a team from Food Authority raided Kibab, fish and fast food points, grocery stores and hotels discarded 185 litres of substandard cooking oil and imposed fines on the vendors.

Director General Food Safety Authority Shafiullah Khan appreciated the actions of the inspection teams and directed the officials concerned to ensure daily checking of dairy vendors and food outlets across the province.

President asks traders to adopt honesty, fairness to grab space in global economy

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday urged the traders and businessmen in the country to strictly adhere to the principles of honesty and fairness to capture a space in the competitive global economy.

Addressing the achievement recognition ceremony of the Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industries (ICSTSI), the president said it was difficult to have a successful business if the customers did not trust a brand or considered it dishonest.

President Alvi said in a competitive economy, businesses that fail to create an ethical reputation soon become extinct.

“Sell your products with fairness by maintaining the same standards which you show to your target audience while marketing,” he told the gathering of traders, here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Besides adopting a profit-based approach, he said, it was equally important for companies to ensure an environment of empathy and compassion in society.

“Honesty in public dealing and developing trust between supplier and consumers can lead to an accommodating atmosphere in the society,” he said.

The president emphasized inculcating the values of honesty in the society in line with the glorious teachings of Islam which called for maintaining integrity in public dealings.

He also noted that it was the responsibility of society to provide a harassment-free environment to women at workplaces to ensure their inclusion in all fields of life.

Dr Alvi said the promotion of small industries in the country could stimulate economic growth.

The president highlighted the need for skill development through vocational courses to help the population earn the dividends of a skill-based economy.

“There is no dearth of talent and skills in the country, however, the situation needs provision of better opportunities to people,” he said.

President Alvi said an effective implementation of tax culture could help the country overcome its financial and economic challenges.

“The key to ensuring betterment of the society is through bringing improvement in the lives of the people,” he said.

The president said the world needed to enforce the ideals of morality and pointed out that the current Gaza situation demanded serious attention in this regard.

He regretted that the world pursued its vested interests while a large population of Palestinians faced ethnic cleansing.

“Amid the ‘might is right’ scenario, a human life should be valued regardless of any religion, ethnicity or creed,” he said.

The president gave away shields to traders to honour their achievements in their respective fields.

President ICSTSI Sajjad Sarwar said the Chamber was taking steps to encourage foreign companies to invest in Pakistan. He also mentioned the provision of a platform for women to promote their vocational skills.

Vice President ICSTSI Syeda Wajida Saleem said small enterprises play an important role in a country’s economy and stressed the need for long-term policies in this regard.  She lauded President Alvi for his continued support to women to actively participate in all fields of life with the objective of attaining financial empowerment.

Group Chairman ICSTSI Qazi Muhammad Ilyas said the trader community was positively contributing to the national economy by following the tax system.

Pak women’s team to depart for Dunedin on Friday to feature in white-ball series

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): Pakistan women’s team would depart for Dunedin from Christchurch on Friday to feature in the white-ball series against New Zealand.
The three-match T20I series was scheduled to take place from December 3 to 9 in Dunedin and Queenstown, while the three ODIs – part of ICC Women’s Championship – will be held in Queenstown and Christchurch from 12 to 18 December, said a press release.
Since arriving in Christchurch, the 17-member squad led by Nida Dar took part in two practice sessions and played two practice games against New Zealand XI. In the 50-over practice match played at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln University, the Pakistan women’s team defeated the New Zealand XI by 57 runs on the back of four wickets from captain Nida and a crucial 38 runs in the lower-order from wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi.
In today’s T20 match held at the same venue, New Zealand XI secured a 28-run over the Pakistan women’s team.
New Zealand XI posted a score of 168 for seven in 20 overs after being put into bat first, with Georgia Plimmer contributing 52 runs.
Pakistan’s spinners Nida and Nashra Sundhu bagged two wickets apiece, while fast bowler Waheeda Akhtar also grabbed two wickets.
In turn, opening batter Muneeba Ali top-scored for the touring side with a 31-ball 32, hitting four boundaries, as the Pakistan women’s team managed to score 140 for eight in 20 overs. For the New Zealand XI, Kayley Knight and Nensi Patel took three wickets apiece.
Following the match, both teams played a super over to provide additional practice and adapt to different T20 match situations. The super over was tied on both occasions, with both sides failing to achieve the required target set by the opposing side batting first.
Talking to PCB Digital, interim head coach Mauhtashim Rashid said, “We had good practice sessions and practice games here in Christchurch before the start of the series. The conditions here are different, the players are trying to adapt to the conditions and these back-to-back matches are going to help the players to achieve that goal.
“We have tried our young players today in the T20 match as we are preparing for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup next year. We have young players coming forward, some are in Pakistan, and we plan to give more chances and exposure to those who are here, hoping they will gain valuable experience from it.”

ANF busts inter-provincial drug-trafficking gang; arrests seven

RAWALPINDI, Nov 30 (APP): Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting a major operation managed to bust an inter-provincial drug-trafficking gang and arrested its seven members including the ringleader, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Thursday.

He informed that ANF arrested an accused namely Allah Noor who was the ringleader of a drug smuggling gang which was involved in inter-provincial drug trafficking through the motorway.

He said that the operation was launched after comprehensive planning. Earlier, six members of the gang were also arrested.

ANF also recovered 419 kg of drugs including charras and opium from their possession.

He informed that ANF during an operation conducted a raid on November 18 and succeeded in arresting the leader of the group, Allah Noor. Another 12 kg charras was also recovered from the possession of Allah Noor.

Squads named for 2023 WSF Men’s World Team C’ship

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): The final squads have been announced for the 2023 WSF Men’s World Team Championship, scheduled to be held in Tauranga, New Zealand from December 11 to 17.

A total of 24 teams would compete in the biennial championship, with Cook Islands, Philippines, Samoa and Tahiti set to make their event debuts, according to a press release.

As expected, defending champions Egypt have selected a star-studded lineup, with World No.1 Ali Farag – a two-time World Team Champion and four-time Individual World Champion – joined by former World No.1 and current World No.3 Mostafa Asal, former World No.1 and current World No.6 Karim Abdel Gawad, and World No.7 Mazen Hesham.

Excise dept collects over Rs 9bln tax

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP):In a bid to streamline vehicle registration processes and provide enhanced convenience to citizens, the Islamabad Excise Department (IED), will be deploying its Facilitation Center Doorstep ICT Vehicle at the Trail 3 parking lot today, from 3 pm-5 pm.

The Director Excise and Taxation Islamabad Bilal Azam talking to APP said, “This initiative marks a significant step towards bringing essential services closer to the public, eliminating the need for lengthy commutes to the excise office.”

“The Doorstep ICT Vehicle will offer a comprehensive range of services, including vehicle registration, transfer, and token tax payment, along with the issuance of Domicile Certificates, Birth Certificates, Power of Attorney, International Driving Permits, and Fuel Permits (Domestic/Commercial).”

“This move underscores the Islamabad Excise Department’s commitment to facilitating citizens and promoting efficient service delivery. By bringing these services to the doorstep, the department aims to alleviate the burden on vehicle owners and streamline administrative processes,” he added.

According to Excise and Taxation authorities, “We encourage all citizens to take advantage of this convenient opportunity to register their vehicles, transfer ownership, pay token taxes, and avail other essential services at the Trail 3 parking lot today, from 3 pm-5 pm.”

 

Tractor production increase 55% in Jul-Oct

Tractor production decrease 46% during FY 23

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (APP): The production of farm tractors in the country witnessed an increase of 55.1 per cent to 17,098 units during the first four months of the financial year 2023-24, against the production of 11,027 units during the same months last year 2022-23.

During July-October, the production of trucks witnessed a decreasing trend as it went down from 1,267 units as compared to 597, showing a decline of 52.9 per cent, according to the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA).

Production of pickups, Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) and Jeeps also dipped by 42 per cent to 6,797 units during the months under review from 11,712 units during the fiscal year 2022-23.

The production of buses witnessed a decline of 57.7 per cent from 336 units to 142 units during the fiscal year 2024, the PAMA added.

Meanwhile, the production of passenger cars also declined to 19,861 units against the production of 42,114 units during July-October, the data revealed.

The manufacturing of motorcycles and three-wheelers in the country plunged to 373,128 units from 413,151, showing a decrease of 9.7 per cent, it added.
