Int’l moot on Arabic Novel starts tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, Dec 12 (APP): A two-day international conference on “Modern Trends in The Arabic Novel in the 2nd Half of the 20th Century” will kick-off on Wednesday (Today) in connection with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU).

According to AIOU, the conference will take place on December 13 and 14, and more than 50 international scholars have submitted their papers to participate. Out of these, 13 papers have been selected for presentation.

The opening session of the conference will commence at 10:00 a.m. on December 13, and it will be presided over by the Vice Chancellor of AIOU, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood.

Dean, Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Prof. Dr. Mohyuddin Hashmi, will explain the aims and objectives of the conference.

There will be two parallel sessions held simultaneously on both days. Dr. Hashmi believes that this conference will be a milestone in the promotion of Arabic.

Vice Chancellor AIOU, Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, has emphasized that Arabic is the language of the Holy Quran and it is very broad and sweet. Therefore, every Pakistani should learn it.

HEC announces LAW-GAT 2024, for LLB Graduates

ISLAMABAD, Dec 12 (APP): The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced the schedule of the LAW Graduate Assessment Test (LAW-GAT), which will be held on January 07, 2024.

According to official sources, the Law Graduate Assessment Test is compulsory for all LLB graduates who wish to seek Bar Council Registration. Applications for LAW-GAT 2023 can be submitted online at the HEC portal latest by December 25, 2023.

The candidates who have passed a Bachelor’s degree in Law or equivalent from a university recognized by HEC/PBC can register themselves online through http://etc.hec.gov.pk. Applications can be submitted online at the HEC website. The test is compulsory for all LLB graduates before entering the legal profession for practising law.

The test will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCOs). Applicants who have registered through the HEC online registration process will download their Roll Number Slip through http://etc.hec.gov.pk a week before the test date. Email/SMS will be sent to registered applicants regarding the test date time, and venue. Candidates are required to provide a valid email/mobile number while filling out the online application form. A print of the Roll Number Slip and original CNIC will be required to enter the Test Centre.

As per eligibility criteria for HEC Law GAT 2024, the persons having passed a Bachelor’s degree in Law from a university recognized by HEC and PBC are eligible to apply.

Meanwhile, according to the details of HEC-Law GAT Test Centers, it will be conducted in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Sukkur, Abbottabad, Quetta, Multan, Hyderabad, Turbat, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad and Gilgit.

The applicants may select any test Centre from the list available in the application form. The test will only be held at any of the above Centers if a minimum of 250 applicants will select that Centre. Test Centre once selected will not be changed after registration.

It is worth mentioning here that A 50% score is required to pass the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT). The applicants will have to meet other criteria, if any, as per the Rules and Regulations of PBC. The applicants will have a maximum of three chances to clear the Law-GAT test.

13 suspects held, weapons recovered

KOHAT, Dec 12 (APP): The Kohat Lachi Police on Tuesday arrested 13 suspects during search and strike operation in different areas and recovered illegal weapons.
The spokesman of district police said that as per the directives of DPO Kohat, the Kohat Lachi Police carried out the search and strike operation and recovered one Kalashnikov, one repeater, three guns, four pistols and dozens of cartridges from the possession of the arrested persons.
Cases were registered against the suspects and further investigation was underway.

Shipping Activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Dec 12 (APP): Three ships namely, Kyparissia, Marlin Hera and DSI Drammen carrying Container, Mogas and Coal, berthed at Container Terminal, Oil Terminal and Bulk Cargo Terminal respectively on Monday.

Meanwhile four more ships, AgiosPorfyrios, Al-Deebal, MSC Jemima and MSC Mundra-VIII carrying Soya Bean Seed, LNG and Containers also arrived at outer anchorage of the Port during last 24 hours.

A total of eight ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them three ships, Chem-road Quest, Majestic Noor and Kyparissia are expected to sail on today afternoon.

Cargo volume of 90,861 tonnes, comprising 60,414 tonnes imports cargo and 30,447 tonnes export cargo carried in 1,730 Containers (720 TEUs Imports and 1,010 TEUs export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.

There are 11 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them five ships, New Asoura, MSC Mundra-VIII, MSC Jemima, GaschemWarnow and Al-Deebal schedule to load/offload Cement, Containers, Chemicals and LNG are expected to take berths at Multi-Purpose Terminal, Container Terminal, Engro Terminal and Elengy Terminal respectively on Tuesday, while two more container ships, Wide Alpha and Maersk Seletar are due to arrive at Port Qasim on Wednesday.

Dr Gohar Ejaz, Chinese Vice Minister discuss implementation of CPEC

BEIJING, Dec 12 (APP): Minister for Commerce and Industry, Dr Gohar Ejaz held a meeting with Chinese Vice Minister, Li Fei to further cementing economic ties and explore various opportunities in trade, commerce and investment.

Both the ministers discussed the implementation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has now entered its second stage.

They expressed their resolve to further work on enhancing bilateral trade and investment by reviewing the China-Pakistan FTA and implementing the outcomes of the joint study conducted by the commerce ministries of both sides.

Dr Gohar Ejaz also highlighted government policies to facilitate foreign direct investment and mentioned the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as a ‘Single Window’ interface for potential investors, promoting a unified approach to promote investments in Pakistan.

Later, the minister also concluded a series of productive meetings with business executives of leading State Owned Enterprises and private companies in China.

As part of efforts to boost China-Pakistan trade and commercial ties and building on the momentum from Prime Minister Kakar’s last visit in October, Dr Gohar Ejaz is undertaking a visit to China, along with 20 members of business delegation representing textiles, food, agriculture, chemicals, fertilizers, and technology sectors.

IRSA releases 84,700 cusecs water

ISLAMABAD, Dec 12 (APP): Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Tuesday released 84,700 cusecs of water from various rim stations with inflow of 38,600 cusecs.

According to the data released by IRSA, the water level in the River Indus at Tarbela Dam was 1484.97 feet and was 84.97 feet higher than its dead level of 1,398 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam was recorded as 20,100 cusecs and 45,000 cusecs respectively.

The water level in River Jhelum at Mangla Dam was 1165.90 feet, which was 115.90 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water was recorded at 4,800 cusecs and 26,000 cusecs respectively.

The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 60,800, 39,800, 37,600 and 7,200 cusecs respectively. Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 6,800 cusecs of water were released at Nowshera and 2,000 cusecs were released from River Chenab at Marala.

BEIJING, Dec 12 (APP): Federal Commerce Minister, Dr Gohar Ejaz presented Pakistan’s investment-friendly policies at an interaction with prominent Chinese business and investment leaders here and invited them to invest in sectors such as textiles, food, agriculture, livestock, technology, infrastructure and energy.

In an initiative to boost economic and investment ties between business communities of Pakistan and China, the commerce minister engaged in constructive interaction with prominent Chinese business and investment leaders at the Business networking dinner at a local hotel in Beijing.

Dr Gohar Ejaz along with the top 20 business executives from Pakistan interacted with Chinese business leaders representing over 150 Chinese enterprises and presented Pakistan’s investment-friendly policies, highlighting the country’s strategic location, special economic zones, skilled workforce, and potential for business growth.

He emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to providing a favourable business environment and facilitation.

During the interaction, key topics of discussion included investments in sectors such as textiles, food, agriculture, livestock, technology, infrastructure, and energy.

The discussions focused on fostering stronger economic collaboration, exploring investment opportunities, and deepening trade relations between the business communities of the two nations.

The Chinese business and investment leaders expressed keen interest in exploring partnerships and ventures in Pakistan.

They appreciated Pakistan’s openness and expressed confidence in the opportunities available for mutually beneficial collaboration.

In his welcome speech, Pakistan Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi thanked the Chinese entrepreneurs for their huge presence at the networking dinner.

Magnitude 4.9 earthquake jolts parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

ISLAMABAD, Dec 12 (APP): Earthquake tremors of 4.9 magnitude hit various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on early Tuesday morning.
According to the seismological center, the earthquake tremors were felt in Swat, Mingora, Lower Pir, Upper Dir and adjoining areas, a private news channel reported.
People came out of their houses in fear by reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba.
However, no loss of life or damage to property was reported from any part of KP as per the initial reports.
