Indian court verdict has no legal worth in presence of UN resolutions on Kashmir: AJK LA Speaker

MIRPUR ( AJK): Dec 15 (APP) :: Commenting on the Indian supreme court’s verdict, Azad Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Ch
Latif Akbar said that the politically motivated verdict was actually a continuation of the August 5, 2019 move that led to the revocation of Kashmir’s special status of the internationally acknowledged disputed occupied state.
He was addressing an extraordinary session of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly the other day.
The session was chaired by Speaker AJK Legislative Assembly Ch Latif Akbar and was specially attended and addressed by caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan Anwar ul Haq Kakar, Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, Leader of the Opposition Khawaja Farooq Ahmed and others, said the AJK government’s official statement issued here late Thursday.
Pertinently, the special session of the Legislative Assembly was convened against the backdrop of the Indian Supreme Court verdict that validated key decisions the Modi government had taken on and after 5th August 2019.
In his opening remarks, the Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar, while welcoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan, said that his arrival in the august House has boosted the morale of Kashmiris on both sides of the ceasefire line, especially those who were engaged in a freedom struggle on the other side of dividing line.
Commenting on the Indian supreme court’s verdict, Akbar said that the politically motivated verdict was actually a continuation of the August 5, 2019 move that led to the revocation of Kashmir’s special status and dissolution of the state.
He said that this lopsided decision was a clear violation of the United Nations resolutions. He said that in the presence of United Nations resolutions this decision has no legal standing.
He said that the decision cannot supersede the UNSC’s resolutions.
Addressing the session, Leader of Opposition Khawaja Farooq Ahmed said that it was expected that the Supreme Court of India would endorse and put a seal of approval on government’s decision.
He said that Pakistan was the sole advocate of the Kashmiri people. “We wish the Government of Pakistan should take up the issue aggressively at the international level and adopt a cogent and convincing approach to galvanize world support in favour of the Kashmiris’ right to self determination”, he said.
He said that the Prime Minister should work along with the leadership of all the political parties of Azad Kashmir and the Hurriyat leadership to prepare proposals regarding the resolution of the Kashmir problem.
President Pakistan People’s Party Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin said that in the presence of UN resolutions, the Indian Supreme Court’s judgment has no moral or legal standing. He said that the Kashmiris were already aware of Narendra Modi’s nefarious designs. Yasin also expressed his deep concern over the international community’s indifference towards the plight of Kashmiris and its double standards.
He said that a robust and proactive Kashmir policy was direly needed to foil Indian designs.
He said that delegations consisting of members of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Azad Kashmir and APHC should be sent abroad to sensitize the world about early and amicable settlement of the Kashmiri dispute.
President Muslim League-N AJK chapter Shah Ghulam Qadir while addressing the session highlighted the Kashmiris’ vital role and contribution in the security and economic development of Pakistan.
On the Indian court ruling, the pml-n chief said that Indian Judiciary has never been fair to Kashmiris.
He said that the Indian government has unleashed a reign of terror in the occupied Kashmir.
“India on the one hand is hectically engaged in its efforts to alter the region’s demography, while on the other innocent civilians are being killed by the Indian occupation forces day in and day out”, he said. He said that retired soldiers of the Indian army were being settled along the Line of Control.
He said that the Government of Pakistan should formulate a comprehensive policy such machinations. He stressed the need for including Kashmiris in the policy making process.
Former PM Sardar Abdul Qayoum Niazi said that the purpose of establishing the government of Azad Kashmir was to liberate the rest part of the state that is still reeling under the India’s occupation. “It is our duty to realize this as our prime responsibility and use all our energies to raise the issue of Kashmir at every forum”, he said.
The session was also addressed by President Muslim Conference Sardar Atique Ahmad Khan, former premier Raja Farooq Hyder Khan, Sardar Hassan Ibrahim Khan of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party and others.
They said that a strong and stable Pakistan could play an important role to seek a settlement of the dispute in line with the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He stressed the need for convening a joint sitting of the Kashmiri representatives hailing from both sides of the line of control and members of the diaspora community to chalk out an effective strategy and plan of action to counter Indian false and fabricated narrative on Kashmir.
Raja Mohammad Farooq Haider Khan said that holding of referendum in the region was the Kashmiris’ only demand.
He said that the government of Azad Kashmir should be recognized as the representative government of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir until the Kashmiris get their right of self-determination guaranteed to them by the United Nations.
Pakistan, he said, should allow Kashmiris to present their case at the international level by themselves. “We won’t disappoint Pakistan”, he added.
Sardar Hasan Ibrahim said that the Kashmiris’ ongoing struggle was all about the right of self-determination.
He said that Kashmiris had decided to align their fate with Pakistan months before the emergence of India and Pakistan as sovereign states. The historic resolution known as the accession to Pakistan resolution, he said was adopted at the residence of his grandfather Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan and then the revolutionary government of Azad Kashmir was established under his leadership on 24 October 1947.
He said that, the government of Pakistan should adopt a clear cut policy on Kashmir.
The assembly session was also attended by the representatives of All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

Search and combing operation conducted at Sihala police station jurisdiction

ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP): Islamabad Capital Police Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted a search and combing operation at Sihala police station jurisdiction and held 10 suspects.

Police said that search and combing operations are being conducted in different areas of the city, to ensure the safety and security of the Islamabad citizens.

For the purpose, a search and combing operation was conducted in different areas of Sihala police stations jurisdiction by CTD, QRF and local police teams under the supervision of SP CTD.

During the search and combing operation 47 houses and 50 individuals were thoroughly checked and 10 suspicious persons, two former criminals and five motorcycles were shifted to Police Station.

ICCPO Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan said that the purpose of the search and combing operations is to heighten the security in the Federal Capital. All zonal officers are directed to continue these operations in their respective areas. Citizens are also requested to cooperate with police during the checking.

Islamabad Police Introduce Digital License Management System

ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP): Islamabad police have implemented the Digital License Management System (DLMS) which effectively consolidates information on suspects as well as e-challan defaulters and helps to apprehend offenders and ensure prompt fine payment by e-challan violators.

The Safe City Command and Control Center forwarded a list of 145 violators to Police Khidmat Center and traffic offices. Subsequently, 82 violators visited traffic offices to settle a total of 995 e-challans, while the licenses of the remaining 63 violators were suspended.

CPO Safe City/Traffic announced that the fully operational Digital License Management System was updated December 13, 2023.

Furthermore, individuals who neglect to settle their e-challans will face legal consequences, and police facilities may be withheld. The recently introduced Brief Cam alerts and cameras from Safe City are being utilized to track the vehicles of e-challan violators, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

To check e-challans, citizens can visit the Islamabad Capital Police official website www.islamabadpolice.gov.pk or use the provided link https://ict.islamabadpolice.gov.pk:8081/veri/verify_e_challan.php by entering their vehicle registration number.

Violators can conveniently pay their challans through the Jazz Cash mobile app or the JS Bank wallet.

Non-compliance with fine payments will result in stringent legal action against the violators. The Islamabad Capital Police emphasize that ensuring peace, security, and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens in Islamabad is among the top priorities.

Interior Minister inaugurates ANF Forensic Lab

ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Sarfraz Bugti, inaugurated the ANF Forensic Lab at the Anti-Narcotics Force Academy (ANFA) on Friday in the agency’s Headquarters.

Secretary Ministry of Narcotics Control, Capt(r) Munir Azam, and DG ANF, Major General Muhammad Aneeq Ur Rehman Malik, HI (M), warmly welcomed the chief guest, alongside the Police Liaison Officer and Police Consular from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

During the visit, Commandant ANFA provided insights into comprehensive counter-narcotics training programs.
Expressing gratitude, the minister thanked the Chinese delegates for their invaluable assistance in establishing the forensic lab.

He emphasized the lab’s crucial role in expediting prosecutions, easing the burden on other forensic facilities, and improving drug detection efficiency through advanced equipment.

The minister stressed the importance of maintaining the highest standards of credibility in forensic processes.
Recognizing ANF’s international acclaim, Minister Bugti praised its pivotal role in combating drug trafficking at national, regional, and global levels.

He assured the force of complete support in addressing any inadequacies to more effectively combat the menace of drug trafficking.

The establishment of this lab will facilitate the issuance of various tests and reports regarding anti-narcotics, said the minister adding that this will help bring the criminals to the conclusion, and along with this, valuable time will be saved and data will be collected.

The minister said that drugs are a big challenge like terrorism and this disease is on the verge of destroying our young generation.

He said that strict action should be taken against all those involved in this heinous crime for the bright future of Pakistan.
“We have to save our future generations from the curse of these drugs” said the minister adding that in this regard, the Federal Minister for Interior and Anti-Narcotics will provide all possible support to the Anti-Narcotics Force.

Three Pak Navy officers promoted to rank of Rear Admiral

on Friday.

Rear Admiral Mazhar Mahmood Malik was commissioned in Marine Engineering Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1992. The Flag Officer is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College Lahore, National Defence University Islamabad and qualified Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from National University of Science and Technology (NUST), a Pakistan Navy news release said..

During his illustrious naval career, the Admiral has served on various key appointments. His prominent appointments include Fleet Marine Engineering Officer at Fleet Headquarters, Deputy MD Pakistan Navy Dockyard and Chief Staff Officer to Commander Logistics. Currently, Rear Admiral Mazhar Mahmood has been appointed as Managing Director Pakistan Navy Dockyard, Karachi. The Admiral is a recipient of Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Rear Admiral Shahzad Hamid was commissioned in Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1993. He is a Naval Aircraft Pilot by profession. The Flag Officer is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College Lahore and National Defence University Islamabad.

The Admiral has a vast experience of Command and Staff appointments which include Command of P-3C aircraft Squadron and Commander Naval Aviation. He also served as Chief Staff Officer to Commander North as well as Naval Attaché of Pakistan in United States. Rear Admiral Shahzad Hamid has been appointed as Director General Naval Intelligence in his new rank. The Admiral is a recipient of Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-i- Basalat.

Rear Admiral Azhar Mahmood was commissioned in Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1993. The Flag Officer is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College Lahore, Defence Services Command and Staff College Bangladesh and National Defence University, Islamabad.

The Admiral has an illustrious naval career, covering vast experience of various Command and Staff appointments. His command appointments include commands of PMSS BARKAT, PMSS KASHMIR, PNS TARIQ, Commander 9th Auxiliary and Mine Warfare Squadron and Commander 25th Destroyer Squadron.

He also served as Chief of Staff to Commander Combined Task Force-150 at HQ NAVCENT Bahrain, Director Studies at National Defence University Islamabad and Director Foreign Military Collaboration at NHQ. Rear Admiral Azhar Mahmood has been appointed as Commandant PN War College at Lahore in his new rank. The Admiral is a recipient of Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).

PNS TUGHRIL visits Salalah Port during regional maritime security patrol

ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP): Pakistan Navy Ship TUGHRIL Friday visited Salalah Port of Oman for logistics and fueling on the return journey to Pakistan after completion of routine operational deployment at Gulf of Aden, as part of Regional Maritime Security Patrol.

During the stay at the port, the Commanding officer of the ship met with senior naval officials of Oman as part of Naval diplomacy and discussed matters of mutual interest, a Pakistan Navy news release said.

The Navies of Pakistan and Oman enjoy very close relations as both countries share the same ocean space. Both the Navies cooperate with each other for law enforcement, search and rescue and medical evacuation amongst other areas of interest.

Sharifullah takes charge as Provincial Election Commissioner of Sindh

According to a spokesman for the ECP Sindh, Sharifullah has been appointed to the post of Provincial Election Commissioner of Sindh and he has taken charge of the office.
Earlier, he was working as the Provincial Election Commissioner of Balochistan.

ECP to announce action plan in light of law, Constitution: Solangi

ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi said on Friday the Election Commission of Pakistan ( ECP) would announce its action plan in the light of the Constitution and law.
Talking to the media outside the ECP he said under Article 218(3) of the Constitution, the only constitutional body responsible for conducting elections in the country was the Election Commission.
“We neither can question the Election Commission, nor we can supervise it, in fact, the Election Commission supervises the caretaker government,” Murtaza Solangi maintained.
He said if anyone had a complaint with the ECP, he could contact the Election Commission.
The ECP under the Constitution enjoyed the power to appoint District Returning Officers, Murtaza Solangi remarked.
The present caretaker regime was appointed under the constitutional process.
He said everyone had the right to freedom of expression under Article 19 and 19A of the Constitution, media was free, and there was no restriction on it.
To a question, he said that the caretaker government was providing equal opportunities to all registered political parties and
leaders of political parties had the right of criticism.

 

Output of LCVs, Vans and jeeps down by 43.91% in five months

ISLAMABAD, Dec 15 (APP): The production of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), vans and jeeps in the country has witnessed a 43.91 per cent decrease during the first five months of the financial year 2023-24 against the output of the same period of last fiscal year.

As many as 8,084 LCVs, vans and jeeps were manufactured during July-November (2023-24) as compared to the production of 14,413 LCVs, vans and jeeps during July- November (2022-23), according to official data by Pakistan Automobile Manufacture Association (PAMA).

During the period under review, the production of trucks also dipped from 1,571 units to 706 units, showing a decline of 55.06 per cent while the production of farm tractors however increased by 60.68 percent, going up from 13,030 units to 20,937 units.

The production of buses also went down by 56.09 percent from 1,968 units to 864 units whereas the output of cars declined to 24,132 units during the period under review from 57,620 units during last year.

Similarly, the production of motorcycles dipped from 522,272 units to 459,703 units, showing a decrease of 11.98 per cent.
