Xi’s special envoy to attend condolence event for Kuwait’s late emir
BEIJING, Dec 18 (APP): Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Special Envoy and Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee Shohrat Zakir will attend condolence activities for Kuwait’s late emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Kuwait City on Monday, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin.
Meanwhile, President Xi Jinping has sent a message of condolence to Kuwait’s new Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah over the death of Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
On behalf of the Chinese government and people, and in his name, Xi extended profound condolences over the passing of Emir Nawaf and expressed sincere sympathies to his family and the Kuwaiti people.
Revered by the Kuwaiti people, Emir Nawaf had made positive contributions to promoting the development of China-Kuwait relations, noted Xi.
His passing away is a huge loss to the Kuwaiti people, and the Chinese people have also lost a good friend, said Xi.
Noting that the Chinese government and people value China-Kuwait friendship very much, Xi expressed his belief that with joint efforts, China and Kuwait will see their strategic partnership keep consolidating and developing.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang has sent a message of condolence to Kuwait’s prime minister, Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, extending condolences to the Kuwaiti government and sympathies to the family of the late emir.
Xi Jinping congratulates Kuwait’s new Emir
BEIJING, Dec 18 (APP): Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended congratulations to the new Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and pledged joint efforts to further promote bilateral ties.
In his message, Xi said that China and Kuwait enjoyed profound traditional friendship and made remarkable progress in bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties more than 50 years ago.
The two countries always firmly supported each other on issues concerning their respective core interests, he said, adding that bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields had made positive progress and that the friendship between the two peoples has been continuously consolidated and deepened.

UN Security Council slams deadly terror attack on Iranian police station
UNITED NATIONS, Dec 17 (APP): The UN Security Council has condemned Friday’s assault on a police station in southern Iran, in which 11 Iranian police officers were killed, and eight critically wounded.
The attack on the Rasak police station in the restive southeastern Sistan and Baluchistan province was claimed by “Jaish al-Adl”. This was the latest in a string of similar incidents reported in the province, including a deadly armed attack on police officers in July, and the killing of Iranian border guards in Saravan, in May.
In a statement released by Council President Jose de la Gasca of Ecuador, the members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and “wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured”.
The members of the Security Council, the statement reaffirmed that “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,” and underline “the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.”
The members urged all States to cooperate actively with the Iranian authorities, as well as all other relevant authorities in this regard, and reaffirm the need for all States to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
In response to a question raised at Friday’s press briefing at UN Headquarters, Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said that the United Nations strongly condemns the 15 December attack, and expresses “deep condolences to the bereaved families and the people and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran”.
