ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (APP):A prominent nutritionist Dr. Aneesa Sohail on Tuesday advised the masses to increase the consumption of dry fruits during the winter season to prevent colds.
“Dry fruits offer a healthier alternative to fried or oily snacks,  playing a vital role in providing essential nutrients and warmth during chilly winters,” she told PTV News.
Dr. Aneesa highlighted the significance of dry fruits in providing instant energy, making them an ideal choice for busy winter days.
She asserted that a comprehensive diet plan is incomplete without the inclusion of these super-healthy foods, which are rich in nutrients and essential fats. Additionally, dry fruits contribute to skin health and are often key ingredients in beauty products.
About almonds, Dr. Aneesa explained that they are a rich source of essential fatty acids, fiber, protein, zinc, vitamin E, and selenium. Almonds are known to support blood circulation and are integral to a well-rounded diet.
Walnuts, another winter delight, were described by the nutritionist as one of the healthiest nuts due to their omega-3 fatty acid content, particularly beneficial for hair health in dry climates.
Dr. Aneesa emphasized the importance of dry fruits in strengthening the body, highlighting their richness in carbohydrates and mono-unsaturated fats, contributing to overall health.
Regarding pistachios, she noted their vital role in maintaining heart health by reducing cholesterol levels. Dr. Aneesa regarded nuts as symbols of energy, providing great taste, strength, and robust health to those who consume them during the winter season.
She recommended dry fruits as a storehouse of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and amino acids, making them especially beneficial for pregnant mothers.
Dr. Aneesa recommended soaking nuts such as almonds and walnuts for four to five hours and peeling them before consumption. This practice reduces anti-nutritional factors and enhances the absorption of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

UNGA unanimously adopts Pak-sponsored resolution fostering interreligious dialogue

UNITED NATIONS, Dec 19 (APP):The UN General Assembly Monday unanimously passed a resolution, sponsored by Pakistan and the Philippines, that underscored the need for promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue to advance a culture of peace and non-violence in the world.
Co-sponsored by over 40 states, the resolution called on States to promote inclusion and unity to combat racism, xenophobia, hate speech, violence and discrimination.
Diplomats at the UN noted that the text was adopted without a vote, and pointed out that it came amid an alarming rise in religious intolerance and racism, particularly the upsurge of Islamophobia across the globe.
“The unanimous adoption of the resolution by the 193-member Assembly sends a message of international solidarity and cooperation.”
The resolution also reaffirmed the solemn commitment of all States to fulfill their obligations to promote universal respect for and protection of all human rights and fundamental freedoms, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
“To secure universal peace among and within nations, it is essential to promote a ‘culture of peace’ – a culture which respects, accepts and accommodates – in policy and practice – the diverse ethnical, religious and cultures which compose the mosaic of the modern States and our globalized international community,” Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram said, while introducing the resolution in the 193-member Assembly.
Ambassador Akram said that the primary purpose of the United Nations is to maintain international peace and security.  The UN Charter, he pointed out,  provides such mechanisms to promote peaceful settlement of disputes.
First introduced in 2004 as a response to the fatal theory of the ‘Clash of Civilization’ that followed the 9/11 attacks,  the Pakistan-Philippines resolution has sought to promote a steadfast commitment by member states to foster interreligious and intercultural dialogue in advancing understanding and cultivating a culture of peace.
This year, Pakistan, as the lead facilitator, managed to restore the traditional consensus support after an interruption of  couple of years during which the resolution had to be put to vote following some disagreements from the U.S. and European Union.   That effort required painstaking, open and inclusive negotiations.
Also, due to Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, this year’s text recalls the General Assembly’s 2022 resolution, initiated by Pakistan on behalf of the OIC, to observe 15 March as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.  Monday’s  resolution also welcomes the observance of this Day, which was co-hosted by the then President General Assembly and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan.
The resolution stresses that the exercise of the right to freedom of expression carries with it special duties and responsibilities, and must therefore be subjected to legitimate restrictions. It acknowledges the significance and respect for “religious symbols”.
The text also reaffirms that violence is never a justifiable or acceptable response to acts of intolerance and that “such violence should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group”.
Pakistan, on its part, has pledged to lead efforts to promote interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation for peace and the values of peaceful co-existence and inter-faith and cultural harmony.

Railways increase ROW charges for five years

0

ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (APP): Pakistan Railways has significantly raised the Right of Way (ROW) charges for a single-track crossing to Rs. 3.8 million for five years which would help the department to generate more revenue.

Historically, Pakistan Railways charged Rs. 100,000 per track crossing for 10 years when telecom operators installed fiber broadband, sources in the Ministry told APP.

In 2007, they said the charges were increased to Rs. 2.7 million for five years, as the use of fiber broadband expanded. However, in 2022, the PTI-led government reduced the crossing charges to Rs. 600,000 per crossing for a lifetime to promote fiber broadband.

They said that in contrast, cable TV operators continue to pay only Rs. 100 per year.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Railways has offered to lay fibre optics cables along the railway tracks across the country, in a joint venture with private sector investors to generate revenue for the department.

Pakistan Railways has around 7,791 kilometers railway network across the country which will not only help the department to improve its financial condition but also attract investors to invest.

The matter also came under discussion during a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), in which the Ministry of Railways pointed out that the department was offering an excellent opportunity for laying fibre optics cables along its track for digital connectivity across the county.

During the meeting, Pakistan Railways informed that it has a network of 7,791 km, which passes through high-density population areas and connects major cities in the four provinces.

With the average assets and hefty pension bills, Pakistan Railways contended, but its financial health was deteriorating, and unless new revenue sources were identified, the reliance on government subsidy would keep on growing.
Pakistan Railways was of the view that right-of-way charges on fibre optics cables would offer the department a decent source of earnings.
