ISLAMABAD, Dec 28 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday rejected a petition for the removal of Caretaker Federal Minister for Privatization Fawad Hasan Fawad on the allegations of political affiliations.
The ECP had already removed Adviser to the Prime Minister on Establishment Ahad Cheema from office on the petition filed by Advocate Syed Azizuddin Kakakhel.
However, the ECP in its written order declared that Fawad Hasan Fawad had no ability to influence the general elections in his current role, suggesting that the petition against him might be driven by personal grudge.
The Commission noted that Fawad Hasan Fawad was appointed to an important position and had a good reputation as a bureaucrat.
Azizuddin Kakakhel, in his application against Fawad Hasan Fawad and Ahad Cheema filed on September 28, sought the removal of “biased ministers and advisers” in the Caretaker Federal Cabinet to ensure holding of free and fair polls.








MULTAN, Dec 28 (APP): Additional Chief Secretary (ASC) South Punjab Captain (Retd) Saqib Zafar has said that Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi was paying special attention to the health sector development and hospitals in South Punjab were being upgraded on his direction.
A sum of Rs. 22.9 million was being spent on up-gradation and revamping of the Children’s Hospital Complex in Multan, he said while inspecting the ongoing up-gradation work at Children’s Hospital here Thursday.
Secretary Specialized Healthcare South Punjab Afzal Nasir Khan, Hospital administration and Chief Engineer Building Department were also present.
The ACS directed that the project should be completed Dec 31, maintaining high standards of construction.
He visited Emergency, OPD and Pathology Departments besides Child Life Emergency.
He said that establishment of the Child Life Emergency was the result of MoU signed between Health Department and an NGO, and the unique project was made possible by virtue of sincere efforts made by the caretaker chief minister.
ISLAMABAD, Dec 28 (APP): The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has unanimously adopted a resolution initiated by Uzbekistan suggesting multiple measures to effectively counter the climate and environmental threats in Central Asia.
The resolution titled “Central Asia in the face of environmental challenges: strengthening regional solidarity for the sake of sustainable development and prosperity” was adopted following the intergovernmental negotiation process took place in October and November at the UN headquarters in New York.
The experts belonging to the countries from all continents of the world actively participated in the consultations. As a result, representatives of more than 100 countries made numerous proposals, said a press release issued by the Uzbek embassy here on Thursday.
The document was presented on behalf of all Central Asian countries. The co-sponsors of the resolution also included countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, China, Singapore, Hungary, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Paraguay (covering representatives of all UN regional groups).
The resolution mentions a number of initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan, including the “Green Agenda for Central Asia” and its role in promoting sustainable development in the region.
In the resolution, member states welcome the initiative of Uzbekistan to hold the International Climate Forum in Samarkand in 2024.
Particular attention is paid to efforts to mitigate the consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea, with special emphasis on the activities of the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region, created on the initiative of the head of Uzbekistan.
An appeal was made to the international community to continue to support this fund.
The document notes the importance of introducing innovative methods and new technologies in the fight against desertification and land degradation.
The resolution contains specific tasks to effectively counter climate and environmental threats in Central Asia, including through the development of sustainable agriculture, landscaping, rational use of water resources, energy efficiency, waste recycling, development of sustainable tourism, creation of “smart cities” and sustainable transport.
The General Assembly recommended that the UN system, international and financial institutions, the private sector, investors and donors continue to mobilize resources, build capacity and provide assistance to address environmental problems in Central Asia.
The resolution also sets out the initiatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in the field of environmental protection.
ABBOTTABAD, Dec 28 (APP): Regional Director Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Shahid Ali here on Thursday announced that the convocation for students spanning from the Spring 2004 semester to Spring 2022 in Hazara Region was scheduled for January 31. Graduates pursuing degrees in BA, B.Ed, MA, M.Ed, MS, and PhD are instructed to finalize their registrations by January 5.
The convocation ceremony, along with the distribution of certificates, is scheduled to take place at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad on January 31. President Dr. Arif Alvi will preside over the event, present gold medals and degrees to the accomplished students.
Vice-Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University, Professor Dr. Naseer Mahmood, has expressed a keen interest in ensuring the registration of eligible students, emphasizing a commitment to leaving no one deprived of this opportunity.
Officials clarified that students scoring 70 percent and above will be eligible for registration. Mirpurkhas, Dec 28 (APP): Two National Assembly constituencies and four provincial seats in the Mirpurkhas are up for election.
Sharing the information on polling booths, its locations and the number of registered voters with APP here Thursday, the District Election Commission office told that 326 polling stations had been set up in National Assembly constituency of NA-211 Mirpurkhas-I with establishing a total of 1066 polling booths, comprising 559 male and 507 female booths.
There are 433059 voters in the constituency overall, including voters who are men. The National Assembly Constituency NA-212 Mirpurkhas-II has 330 polling stations set up, with 1071 polling booths created, comprising 542 male and 529 female polling booths. Women voters make up 232346 of the total voters. There are 432341 voters total, of which 229256 are male and 203085 are female.
In the provincial assembly’s PS-45 Mirpurkhas-I constituency, 189 polling stations have been put up. A total of 606 polling booths 287 for women and 319 for men have been constructed within these stations.
There are 243176 voters in the constituency overall, including voters who are men. The provincial assembly’s PS-46 Mirpurkhas-II has 137 polling stations with 460 polling booths built, comprising 240 male and 220 female polling booths. The number of female voters is 112565, while the number of male voters is 130611. There are 101735 male voters and 88148 female voters in the number 189883. In PS-47 Mirpurkhas-III of the provincial assembly, 170 voting stations have been set up, and 550 polling booths, 278 male and 272 female have been built within them.
There are 224473 voters in the constituency overall, with 105298 female voters and 119175 male voters. Additionally, 160 polling stations, comprising 265 male and 256 female polling booths, have been established in the provincial assembly’s PS-48 Mirpurkhas-IV seat. There are 207868 voters in the constituency overall, including men. There are 110081 voters, and 97787 of them are women.
