Husband, wife burnt in Peshawar gas leakage explosion

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (APP):A mother and her husband were burnt in an explosion due to gas leakage in phase-7, Hayatabad in Peshawar early Friday.

An official of rescue said that the fire broke out at the house due to a gas leakage blast that injured a wife and husband, a private news channel reported.
 The injured were immediately shifted to hospital for medical treatment while rescue teams rushed the spot and brought the fire under control.

HC Janjua sees opening of new vistas in Pak-Canada ties in 2024

Pakistan earns $372.930m by exporting transport services in 4 months

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (APP): Pakistan earned US $372.930 million by providing different transport services in various countries during the first four months of the current fiscal year (2023-24) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

This shows an increase of 26.01 percent as compared to $295.959 million earned through the provision of services during the corresponding months of the fiscal year (2022-23), the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

During the months under review, the exports of sea transport services witnessed an increase of 120.49 percent, going up from $65.700 million last year to $144.860 million during the months under review.

Among the sea transport services, the exports of freight services dipped by 62.56 percent from $53.370 million last year to $19.980 million whereas the exports of other sea transport services however increased by 912.81 percent from $12.330 million to $124.880 million current year, the PBS data revealed.

The exports of air transport witnessed a nominal decline of 1.95 percent going down from $222.779 million last year to $218.440 million during July-October 2023.

Among the air transport services, the exports of passenger services increased by 3.57 percent, from $144.650 million to $149.810 million, whereas the exports of freight services dipped by 32.51 percent, from $ 11.350 million to $ 7.660 million, in addition, the export of other air transport services also dipped by 8.70 percent from $66.779 million to $60.790 million.

Meanwhile, the exports of road transport services during the months under review witnessed a growth of 70.15 percent going up from $4.590 million to $7.810 million during this year, it added.

Among the road transport services, the exports of freight services witnessed a decrease of 17.61 percent from $1.590 million to $1.310 million, while the export of postal and courier services decreased by 37.02 percent, from $2.890 million to $1.820 million, the data revealed.

Two encounters: 5 robbers injure by firing of own accomplice

BOUREWALA, Jan 01 (APP):At least five robbers were injured by firing of own accomplices in two different encounters reported to have occurred in the jurisdiction of City and Sadar Police stations in wee hours of Monday.

The injured accused collectively namely Ali Raza, Ali Sher, Arshad, Danish and Kashif were removed to the nearby hospitals by SHOs of the relevant police stations.

As per detail, Ali Raza, Ali Sher and Arshad were wounded in dacoity bid by firing of own fellows during the encounter when the later just had snatched motorbike from the local citizen here.

Police reached out to counter the offense but the accused opened fire on the security officials.It forced the police to retaliate and later the end of encounter it had arrested the said criminals. The arrested people were involved in at least 31 cases of different kind of offense in past, said the police.

In another incident reported to have occurred in similar way as the above the two robbers, Danish and Kashif, snatched motorbike from the local near 447 EB, the suburban area.

Police intercepted the accused after holding picket at the place, Don Bangla. As a result of which the offenders opened straight fire on the police. It caused exchange of firing between police and the accused and finally Kashif and Danish who were injured by ‘gunshots of own fellows’ arrested.

Police recovered the motorbike and shifted the bruised persons to nearby hospital for the treatment.

Local DSP Zafar Iqbal also reached the spot with contingent of police and constituted teams to arrest the fleeing robbers, it was said.

PM Kakar vows to make Pakistan prosperous in year 2024

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Monday expressed his government’s resolve to make Pakistan a hub of development and prosperity in the new year.

In a message to the nation, the prime minister said the year 2024 was significant for the country in its determination to achieve the goals of peace and a strong economy.

PM Kakar urged the demonstration of unity among the ranks of the nation to attain success in every field of life.

He paid tribute to the martyrs of the country who sacrificed their lives for the homeland.

He felicitated the nation on the occasion, however mentioned that the government had banned the celebrations of the new year in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

He also pointed out that 2023 was a year marked by the violence and aggression of the Israeli authorities against the innocent people of Gaza.

The prime minister hoped that the international community would play a role in ensuring peace in Palestine and ending the genocide committed by the Israeli authorities.

Bus overturns due to heavy fog in Alipur, killed woman

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (APP):At least one woman was killed and several others sustained injuries when a passenger bus overturned due to dense fog in
Alipur a tehsil of Muzaffargarh District on early Monday morning.
According to details, rescue sources informed that the accident occurred when a bus turned turtle due to fog as a result one woman lost her life on the spot, a private news channel reported.
Rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to Tehsil headquarter Alipur Hospital.
Rescue sources said that all the injured were in stable condition.

Pakistan saw over 115% increase in tourism in 2023: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (APP):Caretaker Minister of State for Tourism Wasi Shah Monday said that in the year 2023 Pakistan saw a 115% increase in  foreign tourism which has helped the country earn $1.3 billion in foreign exchange revenue.
In an exclusive talk with a private news channel, minister mentioned that according to the ‘World Tourism Barometer’ published by the World Tourism Organisation of the United Nations, Pakistan made a remarkable 92 per cent recovery to pre-pandemic levels in 2023, as the country experienced a 115 per cent surge in tourist arrivals compared to the previous year.
Minister hoped that the year 2024 will bring more tourist travel landscape in changing the country as a powerhouse in the tourism sector.
He said that Pakistan is promoting tourism and would identify more unexplored tourism destinations of Sindh and Balochistan comprising adventure, religious, nature, weekend, rural and tribal tourism.
Wasi added that our country enriched by beaches, cliffs, forests, hills, valleys, and rivers, and the beauty of the natural landscapes that you find all around the world, but it has them in one gorgeous, beautiful place.
“These places are mostly unspoiled, and they are mostly undiscovered where new elected government need to focus, adding,  we are showcasing Pakistan’s tourism opportunities at the global market shows like WTM which would help attract more tourists to Pakistan.
He also mentioned through world tourism Mart participation Pakistan pavilion attracted a large number of travel enthusiasts, representatives of international travel companies and social media influencers.
The World Travel Mart in London was one of the world’s largest travel shows, connected global travel buyers with over 5,000 of the most renowned destinations and brands worldwide.
Replying to a question, he said it is a gift for the nation that Pakistan declared a best tourism destination in the world, adding, the government is simplifying the procedures and encouraging and involvement of private sector.

Five countries formally join BRICS

BEIJING, Jan 1 (APP): The BRICS memberships of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Ethiopia officially took effect on Monday.
The countries were invited to join the group in August 2023 after the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, CGTN reported.
Originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, BRICS, an important platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries, has received numerous membership requests in recent years.

Partly cloudy weather likely to persist in city

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 18 degrees centigrade and 07 degrees centigrade during the last 24 hours.

Dry to partly cloudy weather has also been forecast for rest of the region.
