GE2024: PID strives to foster electoral understanding among masses

ISLAMABAD, Jan 15 (APP):The Press Information Department (PID) is committed to foster electoral understanding among the masses through awareness campaigns ahead of the general elections in 2024.
The PID, in this regard, has already launched a series of seminars to ensure active civic engagement and participation in the electoral process and elections slated for February 8.
According to the PID, the stakeholders being invited to the seminars included representatives from mainstream political parties, the Election Commission of Pakistan, media, academia, civil society and the general public.
It said these seminars would serve as a platform to educate citizens on the importance of voting, the electoral system, and the role of elected representatives.
“By fostering public awareness, the seminars seek to empower individuals to make informed decisions, ultimately contributing to a more robust and accountable democratic system,” the PID added.
On January 11, the PID organized its first seminar titled ‘Pakistan elections 2024: The Economic Reforms Agenda of Political Parties’ here at a local hotel in Islamabad which had across-the-board representation from the stakeholders.
According to the PID, the spotlight was on the economic reform agendas presented by political parties of Pakistan gearing up for the 2024 elections.
“The electorate is keenly interested in the economic visions put forth by diverse political entities and this exploration aims to provide a concise overview of the economic landscapes envisioned by the key players in Pakistan’s political arena.”
For general public knowledge, it is informed that the PID had planned three more seminars here in the Capital city on different topics. The second seminar titled ‘Changing Landscape of Pakistani Electorate and Role of Political Parties in Fair Representation’ will be held on January 18, while the third one on the Electoral Code of Conduct: Ethical Practices of Stakeholders Including Media is planned for January 25.
The seminar titled ‘Political Participation and Empowerment of Youth, Women, Transgenders, and Cultural Minorities will be held on February 1.

HESCO anti-theft crackdown continues, 260 more connections identified

HYDERABAD, Jan 15 (APP):The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has identified 260 more connections involved in electricity theft during the last 24 hours including 3 commercial, one industrial and 256 were residential connections.
According to the HESCO spokesperson, all apprehended connections have been disconnected, and detection bills of 157,262 units were issued to them valued at 3.916 million rupees.
The HESCO officials have submitted letters for registration of cases against 228 consumers in different police stations for electricity theft under which 09 RIRs were lodged.
A total of more than 10,118.9 million rupees has been recovered during this 131-day operation by HESCO and so far 2220 accused have been found involved in electricity theft and 192 suspects have been arrested and one employee was terminated, three employees have been arrested, and 41 employees suspended during this campaign.
A total of 1772 letters were submitted in various police stations for the registration of cases on which 241 FIRs were registered. Meanwhile, electricity thieves have been fined more than 461.5 million rupees so far

PITB, Al-Khidmat Foundation sign MoU

LAHORE, Jan 15 (APP):The Punjab Information Technology Board’s e-filing and office automation system
received a huge success at government level. Now the private sector also
requested its services.
The  PITB and Al-Khidmat foundation signed an MOU here on Monday.
Following the successful implementation of e-Foas at public sector under the direction
of chairman PITB Faisal Yusuf and supervision of DG Government Digital Services
Wing Muhammad Waseem Bhatti, private sector had also taken up the services.
The MoU was signed between the Government Digital Services Wing of the PITB
and Al-Khidmat Foundation.

and Vice President of Al-Khidmat Foundation Dr Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmed Mangat
signed the MoU.
DG Government Digital Services Wing Muhammad Waseem Bhatti said that after the acceptance
of e-Foas in government departments, its implementation was now expanding to the private sector
too. He said its implementation would help private institutions to improve their departmental
affairs and service delivery.

One new dengue case reported in Punjab

LAHORE, Jan 15 (APP):A new dengue case was reported in the province, bringing the total to 17 new patients
this year.
The latest case hailed from Sargodha district as confirmed by Health Secretary Punjab Ali Jan
Khan in a press statement issued here on Monday.
As no dengue patients was under treatment in Punjab hospitals.
Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan urged citizens to maintain clean and dry surroundings
to prevent dengue.
During the past month, Lahore recorded a total of 10 dengue cases while Rawalpindi
and Faisalabad reported two cases each.
In an effort to combat dengue, the secretary health advised collaboration with the health
department teams. He emphasized the importance of citizens contacting the
health department’s free helpline at 1033 for information, complaints, or dengue-related
medical assistance.

Two killed, five injured in various incidents

FAISALABAD, Jan 15 (APP):Two persons were killed while five others were injured in separate incidents near here on Monday.
According to Rescue-1122, a security guard was on duty in a private housing colony when he accidentally touched the heater, suffered fatal shock and died on-the-spot. In the meantime, his clothes caught fire from the heater and the body was burnt. The victim was identified as Muhammad Shahbaz s/o Allah Rakha.
The dead body was handed over to Khurrianwala police station.
An addict, about 50, was found unconscious near Digluspura. On information, a rescue team reached the site and shifted him to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The body was handed over to Jhang bazar police.
In a head-on collision between two buses near Sadhar bypass chowk, Samundri road left  five persons injured. They included– Sultan, Aftab, Shehbaz, Razia and Muhammad Javed. They were shifted to Allied hospital

Three found dead

FAISALABAD, Jan 15 (APP):Three persons were found dead in the areas of two police stations during the last 24 hours.
A police report said that a 45-year-old man was found dead near Chak No 225-RB while another person about 35 was found from Dhudiwala, Jarranwala road in Saddar police limits. Third body, about 45, was recovered from a pond in the precinct of Roshan Wala bypass.
All the bodies, yet to be identified, were removed to the mortuary unit of Allied hospital.
