Pakistani envoy, Czech minister review ties

ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (APP): Pakistan’s ambassador to the Czech Republic Ayesha Ali met with Deputy Minister for Interior Lukas Hendrych here on Monday.

They discussed possibilities to further enhance cooperation between Pakistan and the Czech Republic.

In a post on X, she said she had an excellent meeting with the Deputy Minister.

“We discussed all matters of mutual interest particularly enhancing Pakistan-Czech Republic cooperation,” she added.

70% desilting work of canals completed

LAHORE, Jan 22 (APP):In first phase, the Punjab Irrigation department has completed 70 percent desilting work of canals in the province.
A spokesman of the department said on Monday that teams were carrying out desilting of canals and restoration of banks of the canals as per the plan.
Irrigation Secretary was visiting field to monitor desilting work of canals besides supervising it through online drone stream on daily basis.

Wasi Shah urges proactive role of youth for environmental protection

KARACHI, Jan 22 (APP):The Caretaker Minister of State for Tourism and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs, Syed Wasi Shah on Monday urged youth to actively engage in government’s efforts aimed at alleviating impacts of climate change.
He was addressing the closing ceremony of Prime Minister’s Green Enovate Conference on liquid and solid Waste Management. The conference was jointly organized by Prime Minister Youth Programme Green Youth Movement (GYM) and Higher Education Commission Pakistan at IBA University Karachi.
The state minister underscoring the need of raising awareness about climate change, its grave implications, measures to subside its impacts and engagement of youth for the purpose assured every possible support for the cause of improving the environment. He hoped that conference will prove a source of inspiration for better and bright future of Pakistan and provide the youth opportunities of moving ahead.
He said that Green Youth Movement is a flagship program of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program which was not only opening employment opportunities for youth of the country but also playing an important role in making the environment sustainable.
He informed  that youth clubs were set up in 137 universities across the country and over 80000 students are part of the initiative. One of the objectives of GYM is subsiding the environmental pollution through recycling of solid and liquid waste and improving the environment, he said adding that it was not only a source of livelihood but also a laudable service to country and the humanity.
He said that the government is making every possible effort to guide the youth in the right direction and promote entrepreneurship among the youth. By doing their own business, the youth can not only earn dignified employment but can also become a source of employment for more people, he added.
The state minister said that the young people participating in the conference were representing the entire Pakistan and their participation demonstrate that if you move forward with firm determination you will achieve your destiny. Wasi Shah congratulated the youth who were selected in the conference and said that the ideas presented by the youth in today’s conference are a source of inspiration.
The state minister specially called two young men from Balochistan on the stage whose idea of use of biodegradable shopping bags with AI feature for checking PH of food stored within them achieved global recognition. Wasi Shah said that these young men belonging to far flung areas of Balochistan are an inspiring message for the entire youth of the country that if you have will and determination you will attain success.
The event brought together young innovators, industry experts, and government officials to discuss sustainable solutions. The event also featured a pitching session where young innovators presented their ideas on waste management. Director planning and development, HEC, Irfan ullah presented an overview of the overwhelming response to startup ideas for GreenEnovate Solid and Liquid Waste Management and Green Youth movement Project.
He informed that a thorough screening process involving three stages evaluated 622 applications received and selected 9 innovative ideas for the final pitches. Program Specialist UNICEF, Mome Saleem moderated a panel discussion in which Vice President Special Projects ENGRO Corporation Abdul Qayoom Shaikh, Project Director National Incubation Center Hyderabad Azfar Hussain, Environmental Policy Analyst Sindh Munib Ali Faridi, and Gazzalla of UNICEF discussed potential partnerships between youth and the private sector in waste management sector.
The keynote speech was delivered by Pakistani Journalist and Media Development Specialist Afia Salam while a session with Ruth Gutierrez Corley from CYCN provided insights into sustainable waste management practices.
At the occasion, the state minister and SAPM distributed cheques among the youth who got positions based on ideas. Prize cheques of Rs 0.5 million, Rs 0.3 m and Rs 0.2 m were distributed to the youth who secured the first, second and third positions respectively. Earlier, Wasi Shah visited the exhibition area and appreciated the efforts of the exhibitors.

PAJCCI delegation meets Afghan Consul

PESHAWAR, Jan 22 (APP):The Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) on Monday suggested that visa cards should be issued to truck drivers for a period of around three months for resumption of Pak-Afghan trade.
A PAJCCI delegation presented the suggestion during a meeting with Afghan Consul General in Peshawar Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir.
The Pak-Afghan trade is presently suspended due to closure of border for the last more than one week over visa restriction from both the countries for truck drivers.
The PAJCCI delegation comprised its KP Coordinator Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi and Director Imtiaz Ahmad Ali.
During the meeting the PAJCCI delegation and Afghan Consul General held discussion over border situation and its impact on commerce and trade in the region.
The Afghan Consul General supported the suggestion of issuing special visa cards to truck drivers for a period of three months to end the deadlock over visa restriction.
Earlier, the PAJCCI delegation apprised Afghan Consul General about the efforts made by PAJCCI for re-opening of border and meetings held with authorities in Pakistan.
They also met with Visa Section Head, Molvi Muhammad Raza Rehmani who apprised them that Afghan Consulate was issuing visas to hundreds of Pakistanis on daily basis.

KP CM directs BoR to collect record of mutation

PESHAWAR, Jan 22 (APP): Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice (R) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah has directed the high-ups of the Board of Revenue (BoR) to collect all the records/transactions of mutation from across the province, said an official handout issued here on Monday.

He has further directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to provide the land transaction records made during the last two months in their respective districts and submit those records to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat for verification/scrutiny to the effect that no extra money has been charged by the relevant revenue staff in the mutation process.

The Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell, after receiving the records of mutation, will telephonically contact the concerned citizens to know whether they have been charged extra money by the concerned revenue staff for mutation or otherwise, and in case any extra money is charged, strict action will be initiated against the relevant revenue officials.

It merits mention here that the Chief Minister had received some public complaints from a few places in the province regarding such malpractice on the part of the revenue staff, and this initiative of the Chief Minister is aimed at preventing such alleged malpractices.

To this effect, the Chief Minister has urged upon the general public to proactively register their complaints in the Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell adding that their identity will not be disclosed and action will be taken against the official involved in such practices.

Syed Arshad Hussain Shah has made it clear that his government has a zero-tolerance policy against corruption in all its forms, and there will be no room for corrupt people in this government.

Pakistani envoy seeks ways to promote trade among OIC states

ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (APP): Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Syed Fawad Sher on Monday held a meeting with Director of International Relations Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development Aalia Jafar in Jeddah.

According to a post on X by the Pakistani envoy, they discussed issues of mutual interest and agreed on enhancing the role of the private sector in promoting trade and investment among states of OIC.

Ambassador Baseer calls for enhanced interaction between Pakistani, African companies

ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (APP): Pakistan’s ambassador to Zimbabwe Murad Baseer on Monday called for enhanced interaction between Pakistani and African companies to boost trade and business.

He was talking during a zoom meeting of representatives of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PACCI).

Both sides discussed possibilities of creating business opportunities and future cooperation. A memorandum of understanding was also in the offing as a result of the meeting.

In a series of posts on X, the ambassador highlighted the issues and difficulties of Pakistani companies in conducting trade and business in Africa.

He suggested that linkages between PACCI and FPCCI would benefit them in understanding the African landscape.

He said Pakistani companies have to think big and consider the future implications for engagement in light of Vision 2063 of Africa.

“We need to start working on trade agreements either with strategic nations or Regional Economic Communities in Africa,” he said adding, “There is a need for integrated financing, cost-effective timely logistics and for putting dispute mechanisms in place before a company can seriously make an effort to enter into the African market.”

Minister hails, USAID’s for securing foreign investment to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for Commerce, Dr Gohar Ejaz on Monday appreciated USAID’s initiative in securing foreign investment for Pakistani businessmen, focusing on small and medium enterprises.

The minister said this while addressing the investment summit organized by USAID, said a press release issued here.

He said the top 100 companies export $20 billion and the rest of Pakistan exports $10 billion.

If 20000 small businesses export $1 million, the trade deficit can be eliminated, this target can be achieved in one year.

“Our trade deficit is $20 billion and the government wants to focus on 20,000 small investors.”

“I have taken these Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to Egypt, GCC countries and China to explore new markets.
