WASA recovers 6.9m during Dec

FAISALABAD, Jan 02 (APP):Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) has recovered 6.917 million from its chronic defaulters by detaching 424 water supply and sewerage connections during December 2023.
Managing Director (MD) WASA Amir Aziz said here on Tuesday that WASA recovery teams took strict against the defaulters and recovered Rs.4 million from East Zone by detaching 263 connections.
Similarly, 161 connections of defaulters were disconnected from West Zone and recovered Rs.2.917 million, he added.

FESCO issues shutdown program

FAISALABAD, Jan 02 (APP):Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has issued shutdown program for Wednesday due to necessary repair, maintenance and expansion of electricity lines.
According to the program issued by the company, power supply from Kathoor feeder linked with 132-KV Gojra grid station will remain suspended from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. while Khalid feeder attached with 132-KV Mureedwala grid station will observe shutdown from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday (January 03).
Similarly, power supply from Shadi Pura, D-Type Colony, Sohail Abad, al-Masoom and Niamoana feeders connected with 132-KV Sammundri Road grid station will remain suspended from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. whereas all feeders originating from 132-KV Interloop-1, Interloop-2 and Rafhan Jaranwala grid stations, MKB, MSC, Phalahi Wala, Noor Fatima, Rehman Megna, HAR Textile, Kamal Limited, Five Star Food Gourmet, Ittehad, Kamran Mill, Rasheed Fabrics, Five Star, KTM, Azhar Corporation, Mueen Jubilee, Image Textile, MJ Gohar and Socks & Socks feeders linked with 132-KV Chak 103/R-B grid station, Samanabad and al-Barkat feeders attached with 132-KV Sammundri Road grid station, Jagat Pur feeder connected with 220-KV Sammundri Road grid station, Nazim Abad and Jhang Road feeders originating from 132-KV Jhang Road grid station, Momin Abad feeder linked with 132-KV Factory Area grid station, Katarian feeder attached with 132-KV Tandlianwala grid station, Ghai feeder connected with 132-KV Garh Fateh Shah grid station, Bungalow feeder originating from 132-KV Mamonkanjan grid station, Canal Road and Fateh Abad feeders linked with 132-KV OTP grid station will observe load shedding from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on January 03, 2024.

Kashmir freedom struggle icon Prof. Nazir Shawl paid glowing tributes

MIRPUR ( AJK), Jan 02 (APP): Participants of a condolence reference at the European Headquarters in Brussels paid rich tributes to the veteran Kashmir freedom movement leader late Prof. Nazir Ahmad Shawl for his meritorious life-time services for the cause of Kashmir.

The condolence reference was organized by Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU) at its secretariat in Brussels late Monday, said a message reaching and released to the media here on Tuesday.

Among the personalities present on the occasion were Chairman Kashmir Council of Europe Ali Raza Syed, Minister of Economic Affairs of the Embassy of Pakistan Umar Hameed, local councilor Chaudhry Nasir, social personalities Farid Khan, Faisal Rizvi, Chaudhry Naseer, Malik Parvez, intellectuals and Journalists Rao Mustajab, Shiraz Raj, Hafiz Uneeb Rashid and Nadeem Butt and other important people Tariq Mehmood, Syed Aslam Shah, Syed Nasir Shah, Raja Abdul Qayyum and Mehr Nadeem.

Paying great tribute to Professor Nazir Shawl for his struggle for the Kashmir cause, the participants of the reference said that the late Prof. Shawl will always be remembered for his participants in the freedom movement of Kashmir.

They said that late Nazir Shawl rendered self-sacrificing services for the cause of Kashmir till his death and especially played his significant role in the efforts to highlight the right to self-determination of Kashmiris at the international level.

Paying rich tributes to the departed soul, Chairman Kashmir Council of Europe Ali Raza Syed said that the late Kashmir Kashmiri leader Nazir Shawl spent his life in the struggle for the right of Kashmiris and a just solution to the Kashmir problem. His death is a great loss for the Kashmir cause and today all Kashmiris are saddened by his passing away.

Expressing grief, he said that on this occasion, we express our condolences to all Kashmiris in general and his families in particular and assure them that we will keep the flag of Kashmir cause till the just and peaceful solution of Kashmir issue. On this occasion, Fateha (prayers) was offered for the late Professor Nazir Shawl.

DG Radio felicitates producers for winning best interview competition

ISLAMABAD, Jan 02 (APP): Director General of the Radio Pakistan Saeed Ahmad Shaikh has congratulated its producers who won an inter-stations competition for conducting an interview in the best and modern formats.
In his congratulatory message on Tuesday, the DG underlined the need for persistent efforts towards improved standards of broadcast in the state broadcaster.
A total of 27 took part in the competition from all stations of Radio Pakistan after which the evaluation committee submitted its recommendations to the Director of Programs Dr Altaf Ahmad Shah for approval.
According to the results, two producers Asad Brahvi and Alam Kalhoro from Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) Khuzdar won the first position jointly, while PBC Faisalabad producer Sana Riaz got the second position and PBC Sialkot senior producer Syed Abis Kazmi got the third position.
Meanwhile, Sajjad Saeed (AJK Radio Mirpur), Shabana Ali (PBC Islamabad) and Naeem Akbar Khosa (PBC Multan) jointly got the fourth position. Asad Mukhtar (PBC DI Khan) got the fifth position and Kamran Tahir (PBC Bahawalpur) secured the sixth position.
According to a news release, Radio Pakistan was on the path of aligning its broadcast content with modern trends in line with the directives of the DG Radio.

DG NAB Multan to address public complaints at open court

MULTAN, Jan 02 (APP): Director General, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Multan Engineer Masood Alam Khan would hear public complaints at an open court (Khulli Katchery) to be held at NAB Multan office on Wednesday, Jan 3, in compliance with the orders of Chairman NAB Lt. Gen. (Retired) Nazir Ahmad.
NAB Multan spokesman said in a statement that people can appear before DG NAB Multan on Jan 3 from 10 am to 1 pm at the office at Multan Public School road and convey and submit their complaints regarding any embezzlement, corruption under National Accountability Ordinance 1999.

PSX witnesses bearish trend, loses 312 points

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP): The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bearish trend on Tuesday, losing 312.18 points, a negative change of 0.48 percent, closing at 64,349.60 points against 64,661.78 points the previous trading day.

A total of 671,665,363 shares valuing Rs.24.451 billion were traded during the day as compared to 625,147,050 shares valuing Rs.18.525 billion the last day.

Some 378 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 105 of them recorded gains and 252 sustained losses, whereas the share prices of 21 remained unchanged.

The three top-trading companies were K-Electric Ltd with 79,854,616 shares at Rs.5.30 per share, WorldCall Telecom with 46,483,335 shares at Rs.1.53 per share and Bank of Punjab with 34,951,735 shares at Rs 6.88 per share.

Sapphire Textile Mills witnessed a maximum increase of Rs.86.76 per share price, closing at Rs.1,569.68, whereas the runner-up was Hoechst Pakistan with a Rs.31.53 rise in its per share price to Rs.1,320.00.

Pakistan Tobacco Limited witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs.58.47 per share closing at Rs.1,072.11, followed by Mari Petroleum Company with Rs.47.11 decline to close at Rs.2,100.19.

SECP organizes financial reporting workshop on capital markets

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) on Tuesday hosted a financial reporting workshop for journalists to elaborate on various factors and elements that can impact performance and cause volatility in the equities market.

Senior journalists from print and electronic media attended the seminar, said a press release issued here.
Ms. Musarat Jabeen, Executive Director and the chief spokesperson of SECP, while welcoming the participants, briefed them about various reforms initiated by the SECP to strengthen the capital and equity markets, especially the recent reform for safeguarding the interests of minority shareholders. She talked about SECP’s measures to deepen the market and enable market growth through the digital taking on board the retail investors. She also appraised participants on liquidity, leverage, volatility, holdings, redemptions, solvency risk, reinsurance, and investment risk.

Abdul Rehman Warraich, Commissioner Securities Market Division (SMD) defined the stock exchange as a place for capital formation, financial inclusion, channeling savings, and diversifying investments. He gave detailed responses to queries on various functions of the stock exchange and explained the regulatory regime.

The participants were briefed on the trading, clearing, and settlement functions of the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the National Clearing Company, and the Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited.

The SECP officials gave a detailed presentation on the digital online account opening process, the KYC framework, and the newly introduced Centralized Gateway Portal for retail investors across all asset classes, i.e., the securities market, asset management companies, and insurance companies.

The new process required filling out one-time account opening forms, KYC, and CDD with standardized information and documents.

The market surveillance team briefed the participants about the SECP’s mandate with respect to the market surveillance function. Participants were informed about different types of market abuse, such as insider trading, market manipulation, etc., and briefed about various modern tools for surveillance that have been deployed at SECP and PSX.

Different triggers for the detection of market abuses, such as system-based alerts, referrals, complaints, etc., were explained to participants. Case studies were presented to participants to help them develop an understanding of market abuses, especially insider trading and market manipulation.

The participants were also told about various risk indicators, such as the index, liquidity, settlement-to-trade ratio, relative strength index, broker exposure, volume leaders in leverage, and those being overseen by the SECP.

Success of UBG in FPCCI election a landmark development

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP):Secretary General, United Business Group (UBG) Zafar Bakhtawari on Tuesday said that the success of Atif Ikram Sheikh as President and Saqib Fayyaz Magoo as Senior Vice President of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) is a landmark development in the current economic situation.
The new leadership of FPCCI will effectively elevate the business community’s voice on policy forums, he said adding that in challenging economic conditions, the business community has taken significant steps through its mandate to formulate better policies.
In a press statement, he said that this victory is the trust of the business community in the visionary leadership of UBG led by SM Tanveer, adding that SM Tanveer has remarkably promoted the mission of his father by earning the trust and confidence of the entire business community of the country.
He further emphasized that FPCCI should consult ICCI, and other major trade organizations to make effective policies for the better growth of the economy and urged the government, institutions and political parties to involve the business community as stakeholders in policy-making to steer Pakistan out of difficulties.

119th Advance Railway Course participants visit EAD

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (APP): The international delegates participating in the 119th Advance Railway Course, conducted by the Pakistan Technical Assistance Programme (PTAP) here on Tuesday visited the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) to attend a meeting for fostering collaboration and addressing critical aspects of the ongoing program, said a press release issued here.

Chaired by Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the meeting was attended by senior officials from both the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Pakistan Railways, alongside senior-level participants from Azerbaijan, Uganda, Ghana, Tanzania, and Sri Lanka.

The Secretary Economic Affairs extended a warm welcome to the participants, expressing gratitude for their active engagement in the 119th Advance Railway Program.

He underscored the significance of PTAP as a demonstration of the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to enhancing technical expertise and promoting global collaboration. The Government of Pakistan has been providing technical assistance to friendly developing countries through PTAP since its establishment in 1976, he said.

The Secretary emphasized that international collaboration is instrumental in establishing global partnerships that transcend geographical boundaries, fostering joint initiatives, research, and development for the collective well-being of nations.

The optimization of the program’s duration and the proactive sharing of brochures with participants before the training were identified as essential improvements.
