



KARACHI, Apr 11 (APP): The Karachi administration’s campaign against overpricing continued in all the districts of the metropolis on Tuesday and 142 vendors were fined Rs.0.459 million for overcharging consumers.
The Commissioner Karachi, Muhammad Iqbal Memon, directed all deputy commissioners to further gear up the action against the illegal profiteering while all the magistrates were instructed to conduct field visits and take action against the shopkeepers charging more than the fixed prices for ensuring relief to the citizens.
According to a statement issued here by the commissioner office, the administration on the 20th of Ramazan ul Mubarak imposed fines of Rs.151,000 on 19 vendors in the district South, fines of Rs.149000 were imposed on 18 vendors in district Central, fines of Rs.40000 on 24 shopkeepers in district East, Rs.38000 on 34 vendors in district West, Rs.8000 on 12 vendors in district Malir, Rs.64000 on 28 illegal profiteers in district Korangi and fines of Rs.9000 were imposed on 7 vendors in district Kiamari.
As per details, nine bakeries were also fined Rs.56000, 26 poultry shops received fines of Rs.55000, 27 grocery stores received fines of Rs.145000, 2 meat sellers received fines of Rs.1000 each, 21 vegetable sellers received fines of Rs.25000, 33 fruit sellers received fines of Rs.39000 and 24 milk sellers received fines of Rs.131000 while a fine of Rs.5000 was imposed on a flour seller.
The commissioner further instructed that if any vendor or shopkeeper was found charging more than the fixed prices of essential items his commodities should be sold at the prescribed rates by holding on the spot auction in presence of the concerned vendors.
He said that the Karachi administration has also made arrangements to set up a Bachat Bazaar under the supervision of all Deputy Commissioners to ensure the availability of items of daily use to citizens at official rates.
The commissioner appealed to the citizens to register their complaints against the illegal profiteering at Commissioner Karachi’s control room by calling telephone numbers 02199203443 or 02199205645.
RAWALPINDI, Apr 11 (APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday visited Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) and expressed his full confidence in the capabilities of its personnel.
He also appreciated the commitment of officers and workforce to transform HIT into a modern defence production establishment for meeting requirements of Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) at par with international standards, an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said
The Army Chief was briefed about the technical capabilities of HIT, progress of on-going projects, indigenization efforts and recently undertaken modernisation measures.
The COAS visited various factories of HIT and witnessed the manufacturing, rebuild and upgradation of tanks, APCs, enhanced protection solutions, remote weapon systems and indigenous 155 mm Artillery gun barrels for the Pak Army.
The COAS remarked that HIT is a hub of knowledge, economy and, research and development (R&D) which is key to achieving self-reliance in defence production and contributes towards national exports and economy.
Earlier on arrival, COAS was received by Chairman HIT.
ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP): The Pakistani industry could not compete international market without curbing technical inefficiency, as the local industry was facing cost challenges besides more than 50 percent energy losses only due to a lack of technology and an inefficient workforce.
Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhary Chief Executive Officer NPO, said during a conference arranged by the National Productivity Organization (NPO), Ministry of Industries and Production, Government of Pakistan in collaboration with Cluster Development Initiative (CDI) & Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) on Sharing of Lesson Learned under the Energy Efficiency Competitive Reinforcement Initiative, Auto Parts/Leather Footwear, said a press release issued here.
The CEO said that the NPO is working to make the industry capable to save energy through guidance and training after evaluating their energy usage, he also revealed that almost all the major industrial units were found wasting 40 to 60 percent of energy due to a lack of technology and inefficient workforce.
Hammad Altaf, Senior Energy Auditor NPO informed about their visits in different industrial units, and identified so many leakages of energy in motors, compressors, lights, fans and guided the staff to fulfil the task of saving 30 to 40 percent energy in their units.
Anus Haroon General Secretary of Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) and other owners of industrial units sharing their success stories regarding saving energy, thanked the NPO for guiding them and launching a successful energy efficiency drive and its implementation in their units.
Secretary Industries Government of Punjab Ehsan Bhutta said that Punjab government is always with the industry and tries to create a conducive environment for business.
He praised the initiative started by the NPO and said that the same type of drive would be started for small industries in Punjab.
RAWALPINDI, Apr 11 (APP): The security forces have killed three terrorists during an intelligence based operation (IBO) in Nurar general area of Bannu District.
According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release on Tuesday, the forces on the night between April 10 and April 11 conducted the operation in the general area of Nurar on the reported presence of terrorists,
A fierce fire exchange took place, which resulted into the killing of all three terrorists. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists.
The killed militants remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and killing of innocent citizens.
Locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the area, the ISPR said.
