Gold prices increase by Rs 600 to 218,300 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP): The per tola price of 24 karat gold increased by Rs 600 and was sold at Rs 218,300 on Tuesday against its sale at Rs 217,700 the previous day, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.

The price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold also increased by Rs 514 to Rs 187,157 from Rs 186,643, whereas the price of 10 grams of 22-karat gold went up to Rs 171,561 from Rs 171,089.

The price of per tola silver increased by Rs 40 to close at Rs 25,200 while that of ten-gram silver also surged by Rs 34.30 to close at Rs 2,160.50

The price of gold in the international market dipped by US$ 01 to $2001 against its sale at $2002, the association reported.

Pakistan’s preparations for Asian Men’s U-16 Volleyball Championship underway

ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP): Pakistan team will participate in the first edition of the Asian Men’s U-16 Volleyball Championship, scheduled to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from July 22 to 29.

The event serves as the Asian qualification tournament and the top three sides will make a cut to the next year’s FIVB Volleyball Men’s U-17 World Championship.

“Our training camp for preparation for the championship is underway at Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) coaching centre Peshawar,” Secretary Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) Shah Naeem Zafar told APP on Tuesday.

According to Naeem, the PVF wanted the players to keep on getting training at the camp till the commencement of the championship but it depends on the provision of funds by the PSB. “Scarcity of funds is a big issue. We’ve highly talented youngsters, who are capable to win the title. But they need continuous coaching and training,” he added.

“We have a very strong senior team but recently they were handed a 3-0 defeat by these young guns [U16 team] at POF Wah. This shows that in the next few years, they’ll form a really formidable national side.

“They all are above 6 feet and four-inch height. We’ve selected them from all over the country through a talent hunt programme. There are our two years of hard work to form such a strong outfit,” he added.

Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and hosts Uzbekistan are in Pool A in the championship, while Pool B comprises Bahrain, India, Thailand and Australia. Pool C features Saudi Arabia, Iran, Japan and China, whereas Pakistan, Kuwait Mongolia and Chinese Taipei from Pool D.

Saudi labour attaché visits ‘Professional Examination Centers’ for further cooperation, coordination

ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP): Saudi Labour Attaché Majid Bakr bin Idris Bakr on Tuesday visited some professional examination centers for further cooperation and coordination.

He was accompanied by Deputy Director of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission Muhammad Arif and Director of the Vocational Examination Project in Pakistan Johar Afzal.

According to details, the Saudi Labour Attaché made this visit to pursue and enhance coordination on the labour side and raise the level of job candidates for work in the Kingdom.

He also reviewed the challenges being faced by the centers in order to ensure that they must play their required role.

Saudi Labour Attaché Majid Bakr expressed gratitude to the officials of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development for the tremendous support and efforts in the execution of programmes.

DBA Nankana Sahib delegation calls on Law Minister

ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP):Lawyers of District Bar Association (DBA), Nankana Sahib on Tuesday called on Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar.

Participants of the meeting included Chaudhary Faisal Sidhu (President Nankana Bar Association), Rai Rizwan Ali kharal (General secretary Nankana Bar Association), Rai Abid Hussain Kharal (Former president Nankana Bar Association), Hafiz Ghulam Shabbir ( Former president Nankana Bar Association), Mazhar Imran Ch( Former president Nankana Bar Association), Rai Muammar Qazafi, Ali Imran Awan And Malik Ajmal Waseer.

According to the spokesperson of the law ministry, issues of mutual interests and matters regarding grants in aid were discussed between the Minister of Law and Justice and the members of the Nankana Bar Association.

The members made a request to seek assistance for the renovation and construction of the Bar room.

Minister of Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazir Tarar ensured them that the matter would be discussed with the provincial government for the necessary cooperation and coordination.

Rana inaugurates PhD Country Directory Online System at HEC

ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (APP):Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain on Tuesday inaugurated the PhD Country Directory Online System at the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Secretariat Islamabad.

Through the launch of the online system that can be accessed through https://eservices.hec.gov.pk/#/pcd, the HEC’s conventional Ph.D. Country Directory (PCD) setup has been automated to improve efficiency in the PCD registration process of Ph.D. scholars in Pakistan.

A ceremony, held in this connection, at HEC Secretariat was attended by Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Executive Director HEC Dr. Shaista Sohail, Vice Chancellors of different universities, and a large number of Ph.D. scholars.

The PCD Online System, developed by the HEC Higher Education Data Repository with the help of Information Technology (IT) and other Divisions, will enable the inclusion of Pakistani PhDs in the HEC data, through university focal persons, within a few days without submission of documents or applications in the hard form.

Earlier, the PCD processes involving five stages took a Ph.D. scholar several months to be part of the registered Ph.D. community of Pakistan.

Addressing the ceremony, Rana Tanveer Hussain termed the launch of the PCD Online System commendable and hoped that the development will benefit the Ph.D. scholars in a hassle-free manner. He highlighted the importance of employing technology in institutional operations to make processes easier for the public. He emphasised the need for investment in human capital and underlined the role of HEC in developing human resources for the country.

The Minister stated that the development of higher education and marketable, need-based research is the key to progress and prosperity of a nation. He advised the universities to establish special on-campus setups for promotion of skill-based education.

He urged the universities to enhance financial discipline, engage with industry, encourage entrepreneurship, and turn Offices of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORICs) into earning entities.

Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said that HEC will soon automate all of its functions and processes to facilitate students, faculty and general public, adding that the HEC degree verification system will be synched with NADRA database to make attestation easier.

The objective of this concept is to improve efficiency, improve quality, and better facilitate people, he underscored.

He urged the Vice Chancellors to help HEC expedite delivery of services to the academic community and students. He said that HEC is committed to ensuring delivery of services to the nation in the best possible way.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Shaista Sohail asserted that the inauguration of PCD Online System, within a short period of only three months, will accelerate the registration of PhDs as currently 29,300 PhDs are part of the PCD data.

Earlier, Director General HEDR Mr. Ghulam Nabi shared a detailed presentation on a comparison between the conventional PCD launched in 2009 and the flagship PCD Online System.

He informed the audience that HEC trained over 300 focal persons of universities on the new PCD System and received feedback from universities for incorporation.

He said HEC HEDR, while heading towards paperless environment, will announce the launch of Online Data Collection System; Online Ranking System; Datawarehousing and Analytics; and Statistical Booklet in the next few months.
