Power shutdown notice

FAISALABAD, May 03 (APP):The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has issued a power shutdown notice for necessary repair and maintenance of electric line for May 4-5.
According to the schedule issued here Friday, the power will remain outage from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hinduana, Chenab Nagar, Jhumra road/Raza city, Moazam Shah, Asian, Badshahi Masjid, DHQ, Beeranwala, Lahore road, Osmanabad, Muslim Bazar feeders emanating from 132KV Chiniot grid station.
The following feeders Pepsi, Rafhan, Susan Road, Rafhan feeder emanating from 132KV old thermal grid station and Kohi Noor city, National Silk Mills feeders emanating from 66KV old thermal grid station while Khanoana, Muhammadi Sharif, Anayat Ali Shah, Jamia Abad, and Bhowana feeders emanating from 132KV Bhowana grid station will also remain closed.
On May 5, ZA Apparel, K&M, Dhanola industrial, Sajjad Estate, new Dry Port, and Al-Makkah Export feed feeders emanating from 132KV Millat road grid station will also remain suspended from 8a.m. to 1p.m.

PCP rejuvenated to tackle journalists’ issues, fake news

ISLAMABAD, May 3 (APP):The Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) was being systematically revived to use its wide influence and crucial resources in combating fake news, and tackling journalist’s issues, Chairman PCP Arshad Khan Jadoon said on Friday.
Speaking at a seminar titled “Freedom of Press with Responsibility,” he underscored the PCP’s unwavering commitment to standing by journalists in every circumstance.
The event, dedicated to celebrating World Press Freedom, featured speeches from prominent journalists, lawyers, and other participants.
Prominent Journalist, Fauzia Shahid emphasized the significance of timely truth, stressing the importance of speaking out against the incumbent dignitaries when necessary. “
Without evidence, labeling anyone as a liar is unjustifiable. Journalists should refrain from reporting social media news without verification,” she added.
Naveed Akbar of the Parliamentary Reporters Association acknowledged that journalists confronted numerous challenges but stressed the importance of introspection.
He emphasized the need to enhance defamation laws to prevent slanderous attacks.
Matiullah Jan stated that PCP caters to media consumers and newspaper readers.
Additionally, PCP is authorized to receive complaints against institutions.
He said that PCP undertook research on the legal protections afforded to journalists and share insights into the difficulties they confront.
Ali Raza Alvi emphasized that responsible journalism involved practicing self-censorship, while also noting that the media tarnished politicians’ image.
Barrister Urooj Bukhari, a human rights activist, asserted that every Pakistani was entitled to freedom and the right to express themselves.
Senior journalist Haji Nawaz Raza expressed concern over the erosion of journalistic ethics by social media.
He emphasized the need for journalists to respect boundaries, avoid challenging state policies, and resist being utilized as propaganda instruments.
Qazi Adil from Islamabad Bar Council, Shahid Chaudhry of Abbottabad Press Club, Anwar Raza, Muhammad Faiz Chaudhry, Aamir Saeed Abbasi, and President Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA), Riasat Ali Azad also spoke during the event.

CM directs implementation of playground policy at tehsil level

PESHAWAR, May 03 (APP): Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has instructed the Sports Department officials to implement the plan of establishing playgrounds at the tehsil level besides making a comprehensive strategy for the promotion of sports and ensuring the welfare of talented athletes.
He was chairing a meeting of the Sports Department and Youth Affairs here at Chief Minister Secretariat on Friday.
During the meeting, the chief minister got a detailed briefing on the department’s administrative affairs, development projects, sports activities and future action plans.
The chief minister instructed to implement the plan of establishing playgrounds at the level of Tehsil Headquarters. Wherever land is available, it should be declared as land immediately, Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur said.
In the remaining tehsils, letters should be sent to the respective Deputy Commissioners to identify suitable land for the grounds, Chief Minister said. The Chief Minister has been instructed to prepare a plan for the promotion of other traditional sports including Polo in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A provincial border team should be formed for this purpose, the CM said. He directed the concerned officials to take concrete steps for the promotion of archery, shooting, horse riding, swimming and other traditional sports.
The chief minister on the occasion said that Horse and Cattle Show would be organized in Peshawar this year. “We have plenty of talent in all the traditional sports, we just need proper branding,” the chief minister said.
Traditional games are an important part of our culture, they need to be promoted, Ali Amin Gandapur said, adding, “We have to promote the soft image of the province and remove negative impressions through sports activities.”
Shooting Club, Riders Club and other facilities in the province should be managed in a standard manner, he said and directed that opportunities should be provided to women in sports activities.
The CM instructed to complete the remaining work of Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium on the priority basis. This is the government’s priority project for which the necessary funds will be provided, he said.
Other ongoing projects including Hayatabad Cricket Stadium, Dera Ismail Khan Sports Complex, Kalam Cricket Stadium should be completed on priority basis, Ali Amin Gandapur said.
Briefing the chief minister on sports activities and the proposed measures to provide employment to the youth, the Sports Department official informed him that inter-regional games would be held from 28th to 30th of this month. The provincial Coaching Camp will be held after the Inter-Regional Games, the meeting was briefed.
The players will be prepared for the Inter-provincial games at the coaching campus and under the Youth Skills Development and Employment Program, 20,000 youths will be given specialized training and providing employment opportunities to these young people in the country and abroad is also an essential part of the program.
The chief minister instructed to provide opportunities to youth from all districts for this training program and for this purpose, the quota of each district should be allocated in proportion to the population.
Under the program, soft loans will be provided to young people who want to start their own business, the Chief Minister said. Chief Minister disclosed that one billion rupees would be provided in the first phase for the said program.
The chief minister instructed to formulate a realistic strategy for the implementation of the proposed program. Young people who are interested and have skills in starting their own business should be fully supported, Chief Minister said.
The proposed program should be seen as a role model program in this regard, the Chief Minister said. Agree in principle with the proposed measures under the Chief Minister’s Youth Education Program.
According to the market demand, provision of merit-based scholarship in modern technical and digital fields is a good move and the Chief Minister has been directed to establish a formal policy for providing merit-based internships in fields that are in line with the modern market demand.
There is a need to pay special attention to the promotion of sports and the maintenance of positive activities in the adjoining districts for this purpose, all available options should be used, the Chief Minister said.

President approves Justice Siddiqui’s retirement w.e.f. June 30, 2021

ISLAMABAD, May 3 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari, in light of the Supreme Court’s March 22, 2024 judgement, on Friday approved the issuance of retirement notification of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, on attaining the age of superannuation, i.e., with effect from June 30, 2021.

The president approved the issuance of retirement notification under Article 195 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

He also approved the withdrawal of the Law and Justice Division’s notification, dated October 11, 2018, regarding Justice Siddiqui’s removal as Judge, Islamabad High Court.

Earlier, Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui had been removed as IHC Judge, vide notification dated 11.10.2018, upon the recommendations of the Supreme Judicial Council of Pakistan, under Article 209(6) of the Constitution.

The president approved the proposals of the Ministry of Law and Justice on the prime minister’s advice.

IESCO notifies 2-day power suspension programme

SNGPL disconnects another 145 connections over gas theft

LAHORE, May 03 (APP):The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Friday disconnected another 145 connections during its ongoing crackdown over gas theft, while Rs 4.9 million fine was imposed collectively.
According to a spokesman for the SNGPL, in Lahore, the regional team disconnected eight connections over illegal use of gas. The team imposed Rs 0.14 million fine on gas pilferers.
In Multan, 11 connections were disconnected over illegal use while another one was disconnected over the use of compressor.
In Peshawar, the company disconnected 95 connections on account of direct use of gas and Rs 3.32 million fine was imposed on gas thieves. The regional team of Karak disconnected six connections over illegal use of gas and also imposed Rs 0.60 million over gas theft. The team also lodged three FIRs against gas pilferers.
In Bahawalpur, a team disconnected five connections over illegal use of gas while another 12 over use of compressor. The team also imposed Rs 0.22 million fine over gas theft. The regional team of Gujranwala disconnected three connections over illegal use of gas while another one over use of compressor and also imposed Rs 0.60 million fine over gas theft. In Mardan, a team disconnected six connections over illegal use of gas and also imposed Rs 0.06 million fine over gas theft.
