CM pledges to maintain peace in city

KARACHI, May 05 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has vowed to maintain peace in Karachi at any cost, saying that the city has already paid a heavy price of bloodshed.
“We have paid a heavy price for peace in Karachi by sacrificing citizens, political workers, police, rangers, and army personnel. Therefore, peace in the city is very important to us.”
He was speaking at the condolence meeting of Shaheed Akbar Nagori, the younger brother of former provincial minister Javed Nagori held at Kikri Ground, Lyari.
The meeting was attended by Local Govt Minister Saeed Ghani, MNAs Nabil gabol, Qadir Patel, Senator Masroor Ahsan, MPA Asif Khan, and a large number of party workers, and people of Lyari.
Murad Shah stated that the PPP government had previously restored law and order in the city, and they would do the same to tackle the street crime challenge efficiently.
In May 2015, a terrorist attack claimed the life of Akbar Nagori, a dedicated political worker, Murad Shah recalled the tragic incident. He also highlighted the immense sacrifices the people of Lyari, including men, women, and children, made to restore and strengthen democracy in the country.
According to the CM, the people of Lyari are truly patriotic and politically aware. “They have actively participated in various political movements, including men, women, and even their children,” he said.
The chief minister mentioned that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has instructed him to provide Layri’s people with health, education, water, and sanitation facilities.
He stated that most of the internal roads in Lyari have been developed, and health and education facilities have been improved in the area. Additionally, the Kikri ground, which holds historical significance, has been converted into a significant sports facility to encourage children and youth to engage in healthy activities.
Murad Shah urged the people of Lyari to provide their children with a good education, enabling them to compete for jobs in Pakistan’s Army, Navy, Police, and other prestigious national institutions.

IESCO issues power suspension programme

ISLAMABAD, May 05 (APP):Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) on Sunday issued a power suspension programme for Monday for various areas of its region due to necessary maintenance and routine development work.

Each player to get $100,000 cash award if team lifts T20 World Cup: PCB chairman

LAHORE, May 05 (APP):Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced $100,000 cash award for each player if the Pakistan cricket team wins the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and the USA next month.
The PCB chief visited the Gaddafi Stadium – where the green shirts are preparing for the Ireland series – to meet players and interact with them prior to their departure for the T20 World Cup. He stayed with the team for two hours and, later, hosted a luncheon for the cricket team and officials at a local hotel, said the PCB spokesperson here on Sunday.
Pakistan Men’s cricket team is due to leave for Ireland and England T20Is series on May 7 (Tuesday) and will fly to New York for the ICC T20I World Cup from England.
“The prize money is of no value when compared with win in the world cup,” Mohsin Naqvi said, expressing the hope that the green shirts would play fearless cricket and raise their country’s flag. Urging them to exhibit team-work in the field, the PCB chief asked cricketers to play for Pakistan, adding that “success would be yours if you play as one unit. Giver your best on the cricket pitch. Give a good fight to the opposition. Victory will be yours and loss mine,” Naqvi said.
Talking to Shaeen Shah Afridi, he said: “Shaheen will produce his best in the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup”, adding that the nation had high hopes from the ace fast bowler and he must come up to their expectations.
The PCB chief also presented specially designed green shirts to wicket keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan and fast bowlers Naseem Shah for reaching individual milestones in the T20I cricket. Mohammad Rizwan completed his 3000 runs while Naseem Shah bagged 100 wickets in the T20Is for Pakistan.
National Men’s cricket selectors Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousaf, Captain Babar Azam, Head Coach (Ireland T20I series) former all-rounder Azher Mehmood and Director international cricket Usman Wahla were also present.

In an enthralling match on Sunday, the HEC cricket team emerged victorious by 1 wicket against WAPDA, showcasing their exceptional skills and determination. Aqib Liaquat, a student of the University of Sargodha, was the star of the show, taking 5 wickets with his brilliant bowling.

The team, comprising university students, has been competing against professional and international cricketers, making their achievement even more commendable.

Deputy PMs of Pakistan, Somalia discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Sunday met with Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Salah Jama, on the margins of 15th OIC Islamic Summit in Banjul, The Gambia.

The two sides appreciated the longstanding friendly ties between Pakistan and Somalia and discussed measures to further strengthen bilateral relations with special focus on trade, economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

They also discussed bilateral cooperation at multilateral fora including the United Nations and OIC, and exchanged views on a range of recent regional and global developments, especially in the Middle East.

Both Deputy Prime Ministers expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine and underlined the urgency of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza.

Water flows gradually rise at Kotri barrage

HYDERABAD, May 05 (APP): The flows in the Indus River at Kotri barrage are gradually increasing with 24,505 cusecs water recorded upstream on Sunday.
According to the figures shared by the Irrigation Department, the barrage released 1,200 cusecs downstream while the rest of the water was shared among its 4 canals.
The barrage allocated 7,150 cusecs to Kalri Baghar Feeder Canal, which supplied water to Karachi, up from 6,050 cusecs on May 4, 4,705 cusecs on May 3 and 5,125 cusecs on May 2.
Likewise, 7,675 cusecs of water was allocated to New Fuleli canal, 5,750 to Old Fuleli canal and 2,530 to Akram canal.
Although the allocations for Akram and OlD Fuleli canals have remained the same since May 1, albeit the later witnessing a drop to 3,300 cusecs on May 3, the water flows in New Fuleli have slightly increased from 7,025 cusecs on May 1 to 7,675 cusecs on Sunday.

Saudi trade delegation arrives in Pakistan for investment cooperation

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP):A 50-member high-level Saudi trade delegation led by the Assistant Investment Minister of Saudi Arabia, Ibrahim Almubarak, arrived here on Sunday with an aim to explore various avenues of trade and investment in a bid to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Upon their arrival at Noor Khan Air Base, the Saudi dignitaries were welcomed by Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Petroleum Minister Musadik Masood Malik, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Commerce.
Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan highlighted that the three-day visit of the Saudi delegation geared towards enhancing trade relations between investors from both countries and identifying trade and investment opportunities across various sectors of Pakistan’s economy.
He said that the Ministry had selected numerous Pakistani companies in relevant sectors for Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings with their Saudi counterparts, adding that leading Pakistani companies would collaborate with 30 Saudi companies across different sectors.
The B2B meetings will specifically target sectors such as agriculture, mining, human resources, energy, chemicals and maritime. Moreover, discussions will extend to investment prospects in other sectors including refinery, IT, religious tourism, telecom, aviation, construction, water and power generation, he said.
The minister emphasized that the objective of these discussions was to identify investment opportunities that would generate employment and boost exports between the two countries. He also noted that local companies would present their business and investment proposals to their Saudi counterparts.
The minister expressed optimism that several companies would be able to finalize business and investment deals during the B2B session, fostering greater economic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

CDA hosts successful Taekwondo competition for students
