Crackdown against power thieves intensified in Dera

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, May 06 (APP):Superintendent Engineer Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) Dera Fida Muhammad Mehsud has urged people to pay monthly bills regularly to get a smooth power supply.
Talking to the media here Monday, he said that Pesco was a precious asset which would be strengthened by consumers to promptly pay the outstanding dues.
He also said that the campaign had been accelerated to eliminate power theft and recover outstanding dues and these efforts were being made.
Under the direction of Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, teams were actively engaged in daily operations against electricity thieves.
He said that in the PESCO Dera, a total of 3778 cases had been forwarded for registration of cases against electricity thieves, out of which 3482 cases have been filed and 3430 electricity thieves have been arrested.
He informed that 22 feeders had been shut down completely after registering more than 90 percent line losses, across the district.

Operations coordinator, ICRC Asia Pacific Region calls on Chairman PRCS

ISLAMABAD, May 06 (APP):The Operations Coordinator of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Asia Pacific Region, Yoann Davison, affianced in a courtesy meeting with Chairman Pakistan Red Cross Society (PRCS) Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari at the PRCS National Headquarters here on Monday.
The primary objective of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation between PRCS and ICRC on various humanitarian programs and initiatives.
Head of ICRC Delegation, Nicolas Lambert and ICRC Movement Coordinator in Pakistan, Wasif Jan accompanied Mr Davison.
During the meeting, Chairman PRCS Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari provided a comprehensive overview of the various PRCS programs supported by ICRC, highlighting the Red Crescent’s crucial role in assisting in natural disasters and emergencies. He shared insights into the 2022 monsoon flood response and the ongoing recovery efforts in affected areas and outlined PRCS’s plans aimed at strengthening its humanitarian outreach.
Chairman Laghari emphasised the importance of enhancing collaboration between PRCS and ICRC to advance ICRC-supported programs like National Society Development, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Restoring Family Links, First Aid, Media and Communication, as well as Risk Awareness and Safer Behavior initiatives.
Yoann Davison on the occasion commended the exemplary services provided by the Red Crescent, acknowledging Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari’s leadership in driving humanitarian initiatives forward.
He reiterated ICRC’s commitment to continued collaboration with PRCS, expressing readiness to enhance programs for the benefit of humanity further.
Nicolas Lambert said, “Our partnership with the PRCS is a cornerstone of our mission in Pakistan, adding together, we’re stronger in our commitment to serve communities, providing vital aid and support in times of need.”
In recognition of the longstanding partnership, Chairman Laghari presented a memento to the Operations Coordinator of ICRC Asia Pacific Region, along with a souvenir symbolizing the spirit of humanitarian collaboration.
Yoann Davison concluded his visit by touring the PRCS library and leaving his impressions in the visitor’s book.

Barrister Naseem Bajwa’s Book “Europe Ki Diary” rekindles passion for national building

ISLAMABAD, May 6 (APP):The Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on Monday organized the third edition of Renowned Columnist and Lawyer, Barrister Naseem Bajwa’s book “Europe Ki Diary” based on his columns published in various newspapers here in the presence of renowned historians and members of the civil society and lawyers’ fraternity.
In his opening remarks, Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri, Executive  Director, SDPI eulogized the author’s contributions to Urdu journalism through his services at the BBC London Urdu Chapter and also as an educationist at the Atchison College.
The author, he said had a leftist ideological tendency that remained intact through his life’s eight decades beyond journey.
Dr Suleri mentioned that some of the chapters of the book focused on change in system of the country and also provided a way forward to achieve that goal.
The SDPI Executive Director wished the author good luck for the fourth edition of his book and recommended the youth to read the book online especially the tributes paid to Parveen Rehman and Asma Jehangir.
 He termed the book as a guiding document for generation building.
Barrister Naseem Bajwa, the author on the occasion shared his personal accounts, experiences and lessons learnt through out his lifetime from Pakistan Movement to shifting to a foreign country that motivated him to write articles for the betterment of the country and consequently writing a book out of them to propose recommendations for improvement in the system of the country.
“The title is a little misleading as it takes some account of Europe and then the details of Pakistan’s history. I learnt from my experience at BBC to write like the audience is sitting before me that makes his writing style subtle and vivid,” he said.
He extended special gratitude to SDPI and Dr Abid Suleri and others.
Dr Farooq Adil, renowned historian and author said the Book would serve as a resource loaded with subject matter for historians to explore undiscovered aspects hidden in various chapters of the book.
Muzaffar Mahmood Qureshi, former senior bureaucrat, said the books by Barrister Bajwa are a great source of understanding the politics of the country and the international level. However, the author has unique and convincing writing style, he added.

President Zardari arrives in Quetta

QUETTA, May 06 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday arrived in Quetta on a three-day visit to Balochistan.

Balochistan Governor Shaikh Jaffer Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, provincial ministers and parliamentarians received the president at the airport.

It is the maiden visit of President Zardari to Balochistan after taking over his office.

Facilitation center to be operational from 9 am to 9 pm: CDA Chief

ISLAMABAD, May 6 (APP):Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Monday directed that the operational hours of the authority’s Facilitation Center to be extended from 9 am to 9 pm for the convenience of residents of the federal capital.
During his visit to the Facilitation Center, Chaudhry Muhammad Ali directed the relevant staff to ensure their presence at the counters to provide maximum assistance to the public.
He stressed the urgent need to digitize all records and expedite the ongoing development work at all facilitation centers of the authority.
Additionally, Chaudhry Muhammad Ali personally listened to residents’ complaints during the visit and issued directives to promptly resolve these issues.

US officials discuss bilateral cooperation with KP Governor

PESHAWAR, May 06 (APP): Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy, Andrew Shofer and US Consul General in Peshawar, Shante Moore, called on Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi at the Governor’s House on Monday.
During the meeting, the Deputy Chief of Mission and the Consul General congratulated Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on assuming office.
They discussed various matters of mutual interest, including collaboration between US development agencies and the provincial government, as well as bilateral cooperation in different sectors. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emphasized the need to promote two-way relations and connections between the people of the two countries.
He also stressed the importance of peace for the development and prosperity of the province, particularly in the tribal and southern districts, which have been severely affected by terrorism.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed his desire for good relations with all neighboring countries, including Afghanistan, and acknowledged the decades-long hospitality extended to Afghan refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and across the country.
He also mentioned the ongoing process of dignified repatriation of illegal Afghan refugees living in the country.
Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy, Andrew Shofer, mentioned that American development and aid organizations are working in the province, aiming to improve public welfare and well-being.
