ANP’s delegation visits MQM-P’s office to congratulate election winners

HYDERABAD, Feb 11 (APP):A delegation of Awami National Party (ANP) visited the Hyderabad chapter office of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) here on Sunday to congratulate the party on winning 5 out of 9 seats in Hyderabad.
The delegation, led by ANP’s provincial Vice President Mohammad Hashim Khan, expressed hope that MQM-P’s elected legislators would serve the people without discrimination.
The party’s elected candidate on NA-219 Abdul Aleem Khanzada said MQM-P was thankful to the people of Hyderabad who reposed trust on them one more time.
The winning candidate from PS-62 Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani emphasized the need to bury the politics of hatred so that the people and the country could move ahead towards progress and development.
The MQM-P’s elected candidates welcomed the ANP’s delegation at their party office and extended their assurance about serving the city’s people alike.

PML-N initiates formal talks with PPP for govt formation

LAHORE, Feb 11 (APP):In a significant development, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by President Shehbaz Sharif, has commenced formal discussions with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to explore cooperation for forming the government.
The initiative saw Shehbaz Sharif leading a delegation to Bilawal House for talks with PPP-Parliamentarian President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday.
Among the notable attendees from the PML-N side were Azam Nazir Tarar, Ayaz Sadiq, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Tanveer, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Malik Ahmed Khan, Marriyum Aurangzeb, and others. During the meeting, the PPP leadership assured the PML-N delegation that their proposal for collaboration in government formation would be presented at the Central Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Monday (February 12), in Islamabad. The forthcoming session is expected to witness in-depth discussions on the matter, signaling a potentially pivotal moment in the political landscape of Pakistan.

Minister Aneeq to address Hajj training programme on Monday

 According to a press release, the minister  will address the aspirant pilgrims on the occasion of their first Hajj training programme at Qasim Banquet at 9.30 a.m.

ECP halts results of PB-21, orders vote recount

ISLAMABAD, Feb 11 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), upon the request of Ali Hassan Zehri, on Sunday halted the results of PB-21 Hub and ordered a recount of the votes.

This decision was taken in accordance with the powers vested in the ECP under Section 95(6) of the Elections Act, 2017, Article 218(3) of the Constitution, and all other enabling powers, an ECP press release said.

The ECP has directed the Returning Officer (RO) to issue notices to the contesting candidates regarding the time, date, and venue of the recounting process.

Negative perceptions about circular debt, tariff rationalization plans dispelled

ISLAMABAD, Feb 11 (APP): The Petroleum Division (PD) on Sunday dispelled the negative perception being created regarding the Circular Debt (CD) reduction and tariff rationalization plans (in the oil and gas sector).

“There have been productive deliberations with IMF (International Monetary Fund) after which additional information has been shared. Further progress on these plans is expected in the coming week,” the PD posted on X.

45th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran celebrated

KARACHI, Feb 11 (APP): The Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Karachi hosted an event to mark the 45th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran and the National Day.

Sindh Caretaker Tourism Minister Arshad Wali Mohammad, along with other Pakistani dignitaries congratulated Consul General Hassan Nourian on the festive occasion.

The event was attended by senior officials of the Sindh Government, political figures, religious scholars, businessmen and traders, including officials and members of the Pakistan Chambers of Commerce.

The consuls general of some other countries based in Karachi also congratulated the government and people of Iran on the occasion of their National Day.

The Iranian Consul General, in his remarks, paid tribute to the brave people of Iran in his address.

He appreciated the joint efforts of both Pakistan and Iran to enhance their relations in political, economic, cultural, military, and other fields.

He said that the 45th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran was the 77th anniversary of the long-standing brotherly relations between Iran and Pakistan, who remained firm and friendly in all circumstances.

Their bilateral relations, especially in the economic and trade sectors, were strong, he added.

Hassan Noorian recalled the meeting of the leaders of Iran and Pakistan to inaugurate border projects, and the recent visit of the Iranian foreign minister to Sindh and Islamabad as a turning point in the long-standing relations between the two neighboring countries.

SNGPL outclass WAPDA to win President’s Trophy Grade-I

RAWALPINDI, Feb 11 (APP): The SNGPL secured a resounding victory over WAPDA in the final of the President’s Trophy Grade-I, triumphing by a massive 519-run at Pindi Cricket Stadium Rawalpindi on Sunday.

The five-day final ended inside three days. SNGPL not only won the trophy, but also took away prize money of PKR three million. WAPDA had to settle for the runners-up trophy and prize money of PKR 1.5 million.

Resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 121 for five in 36 overs, SNGPL declared their innings at 346 for eight in 82 overs, courtesy century by Bilawal Bhatti (101, 114b, 14x4s, 2x6s) and 91 from Mubasir Khan. The pair knitted a 108-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Mubasir’s innings included 14 fours and a six.
For WAPDA, Asif Afridi was the most successful bowler, taking five wickets for 149 runs.

In turn, chasing 686 to win, WAPDA were dismissed for 166 for nine in 32 overs. Ayaz Tasawar, coming to bat at number six, top-scored for his side with a 30-ball 51, smashing seven fours and three sixes. Test batter Umar Akmal, who scored 28 runs in the first innings, didn’t come to bat in the second innings as he was ill.

Right-arm fast Shahnawaz Dahani, who bagged seven wickets in the first innings, managed to get two scalps in the second innings, and ended up with match figures of 94 runs for nine wickets. Left-arm pacer Mir Hamza was the most successful bowler in the second innings, grabbing three wickets for 50 runs in nine overs.

Dahani and Sahibzada Farhan were declared joint player-of-the-match. KRL’s Abdul Faseeh and Ghani Glass’ Mohammad Rameez Jnr were declared joint player-of-the-tournament.

600 Pakistani professional employees embark on int’l careers

ISLAMABAD, Feb 11 (APP): In a landmark moment for employment mobility 600 Pakistani professionals have embarked on international careers, following the successful negotiation of strategic employment agreements with global partners.

This departure marks a significant milestone in the initiative led by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing global employment opportunities for its workforce, said a news release on Sunday.

The initiative, under the guidance of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development Jawad Sohrab Malik has seen the fruition of agreements signed merely 90 days ago. The effort has opened thousands of job avenues across diverse sectors for Pakistani professionals, reflecting the country’s proactive engagement on the international stage.

Departing from major cities including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar, the professionals expressed gratitude for the seamless process facilitated by the government. Their departure, witnessed by families and ministry officials, with Jawad Malik personally seeing off Islamabad’s contingent, illustrates the government’s dedication in supporting its citizens’ aspirations.

The initial batch of 600 professionals marks just the beginning. This figure is set to rise substantially as global employers continue to conduct interviews and select candidates on a daily basis. The success of this initiative reflects not only on the number of job placements but also on the swift timeline of execution from signing agreements in deploying the workforce abroad, all processes were completed within a remarkable 90-day window.

It is pertinent to mention here that these are only those candidates selected through the Governments Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) and private Overseas Employment promoters have also made stride due to their agreements.

To date, with 50 international agreements yielding over 10,000 interviews, this initiative has culminated in the selection of 600 candidates ready to showcase Pakistan’s skilled workforce globally. The SAPM emphasized the critical role of continuous engagement with nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and European countries, alongside participation in global expos and meetups, in securing these opportunities.

The synergy between public and private sectors has been pivotal, with the government issuing licenses to private Overseas Employment Promoters, enhancing the scope for Pakistanis to access international job markets.

A notable milestone in these endeavors was Pakistan’s first-ever participation in an international HR expo in Riyadh, led by the SAPM. This historic engagement resulted in the signing of many deals, further expanding global job opportunities for Pakistanis and marking a significant achievement in the country’s international employment outreach.

Looking ahead, Jawad Malik shared the promising outlook of placing demands with 46 additional employers, indicating thousands of forthcoming job opportunities. Fields such as Healthcare, Engineering, ICT, Hospitality, Finance, and Construction are seeing daily interviews with numerous candidates being selected for international careers.

The ministry is on the cusp of finalizing further agreements, aiming to double the current number to 100 within weeks, thereby broadening the spectrum of opportunities for the Pakistani workforce across all skill levels.

The special assistant reiterated the profound impact of overseas employment on improving living standards for Pakistani families and contributing to national economic stability through remittances.

In conclusion, the efforts led by Jawad Sohrab Malik and the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development have set a new benchmark for rapid and successful implementation of international employment initiatives. This milestone heralds a promising future for Pakistani professionals seeking opportunities abroad, reinforcing the nation’s position on the global employment stage.

General Elections-2024: Independents grab 101 NA seats

ISLAMABAD, Feb 11 (APP): Independent candidates have emerged as the front-runners with winning 101 National Assembly seats in the General Election 2024 held on February 8.

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) becomes the single largest party in the NA by grabbing 75 constituencies, according to the unofficial results of 264 out of 266 constituencies announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) has secured 54 seats, and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) 17 seats.

The Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Pakistan (JUI-P) has managed to win four, the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) three, and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and Balochistan National Party (BNP) two seats each.

The Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan, Pakhtunkhwa National Awami Party, Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), National Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Zia (PML-Z) have won one seat each.

Elections for an NA general seat (NA-8) were postponed due to the death of a candidate, while the results of NA-88 were not announced as re-polling would be conducted at 15 out of 25 polling stations on February 15.

In the Punjab Assembly, out of 297 seats, independents secured 138, PML-N 137, PPPP 10, PML eight, and IPP, PML-Z, and Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan one each, while the election for PP-266 Rahim Yar Khan could not be conducted due to a candidate’s death.

With the results of one of the 130 Sindh Assembly seats withheld due to re-polling at certain polling stations, the PPPP leads the chart by winning 84 seats, followed by the MQM-P with 28, independent candidates 13, and the Grand Democratic Alliance and Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan two each.

In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, independent candidates have grabbed 90 seats out of 112 constituencies whose results have been declared. The JUI-P secured seven seats, PML-N five, PPPP four, JI-P three, Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaf Parliamentarian two and Awami National Party one.

Elections in two out of total 115 KP Assembly constituencies have been postponed due to the death of candidates, while the result of one was withheld due to vandalism.

In the the Balochistan Assembly, the PPPP and the JUI-P lead the tally with 11 seats each, followed by PML-N with 10, Balochistan Awami Party four, National Party three, Awami National Party two, and Balochistan National Party, Balochistan National Party (Awami), Haq Do Tehreek Balochistan and JI-P one each. Independent candidates also grabbed six seats.
