ECP notifies 21 NA returned candidates from Karachi

KARACHI, Feb 14 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued notification of 21 returned candidates of National Assembly constituencies of Karachi Division for publication in the Gazette of Pakistan.

According to notification issued by the ECP, Jam Abdul Karim Bajar of Pakistan People’s party Parliamentarian was declared as returned candidates on NA-229 Malir-I, Syed Rafiullah of PPP from NA-230 Malir-II, Abdul Hakim Baloch from NA-III, Asiyah Ishaque Siddiqui of MQM- P from NA-232 Korangi-I, Muhammad Moin Aamer Pirzada of MQM-P from NA-233 Korangi-II, Muhammad Iqbal Khan of MQM-P from NA-234 Korangi-III were declared as returned candidates.

Muhammad Iqbal of MQM-P was declared as returned candidates from NA-235 Karachi East-I, MQM Pakistan’s Hassan Sabir from NA-236 East-II while Asad Alam Niazi of PPP Parliamentarian from NA-237 was declared as winner.

Sardar Nabeel Gabol of PPP Parliamentarian was declared as returned candidates from NA-239 South-I, Arshad Abdullah Vohra of MQM-P from NA-240 South-II and Mirza Ikhtiar Baig of PPP from NA-241 South-III were declared as winning candidates.

Syed Mustafa Kamal of MQM-Pakistan from NA-242 Keamari-I, Abdul Qadir Patel of PPP Parliamentarian from NA-243 Keamari-II, Muhammad Farooq Sattar of MQM-P from NA-244 West-I, Syed Hafeezuddin of MQM-P from NS- 245 West-II, Syed Aminul Haq of MQM-P from NA-246 West-III, Khwaja Izharul Haq of MQM-P from NA-247 Central-I, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of MQM-P from NA-248 Central-II, Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui of MQM-P on NA- 249 Central-III and Farhan Chishti of MQM Pakistan declared as winner on NA-250 Central-IV Karachi.

The notification was also sent to Manager Printing Corporation of Pakistan Press Islamabad for publication in the Gazette of Pakistan.

VC of Sindh University condoles demise of Professor Dr. Mumtaz Bhutto

HYDERABAD, Feb 14 (APP):The Vice Chancellor of University of Sindh Jamshoro, Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Bhutto, former Dean of Faculty of Islamic Studies and author of various books, and condoled with the bereaved family.
In his condolence statement issued on Wednesday, he said that Dr. Mumtaz Bhutto was an educational and research expert, she illuminated the lamp of knowledge throughout his life, enlightening the future of students.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Kalhoro praised the services of the deceased for the University of Sindh, saying that the contributions of Madam Mumtaz Bhutto to the university will always be remembered.

4 killed, several injured as passenger bus overturns in Rawalakot

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP):At least four persons were killed, while other several hurt when a passenger bus travelling from Gambhir to Hujra overturned near Rawalakot on early Wednesday morning.
According to details, Rescue sources said that the bus was carrying passengers at the time of the accident, in a result four people lost their lives on the spot, a Private news channel reported.
The driver lost control of the bus which skidded down into gorge in Rawalakot.
Rescue and police officials cordoned-off the area after reaching the spot and shifted the dead and injured to Hujra CMH Rawalakot.

Shipping activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Feb 14 (APP): Shipping activity reported at Port Qasim where four ships namely, Bow Endeavor, Epic Sunter, Lokoja and Stockholm Eagle, carrying Palm oil, LPG, LNG and Coal, berthed at Liquid Terminal, Engro Terminal, Gas Terminal and Bulk Terminal respectively during last 24 hours.

Meanwhile two more ship, Visayas and America scheduled to load/ offload Rice and Containers are also arrived at outer anchorage of the Port Qasim during the same period.

A total of seven ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them an edible oil carrier ‘Southern Anoa’ left the port on today morning on February 14th 2024.

Cargo volume of 87,293 tonnes, comprising 87,084 tonnes imports cargo and 204 tonnes export cargo carried in 42 containers (30 TEUs imports and 12 TEUs export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.

There are 10 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them two ships, America and Taho Australia and another oil tanker ‘Khairpur’ carrying containers, Palm oil and Mogas are expected to take berths at QICT, LCT and FOTCO respectively on today, 14th February, while two more container ships, Seaspan Beacon and Maersk Cape Town are due arrive at Port Qasim on Thursday, 15th February 2024.

Excise to facilitate citizens for vehicle registration under ICT doorstep initiative

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP):In a move to streamline services and bring them closer to the community, the Excise department on Wednesday is providing civic facilities to residents of the federal capital to get their vehicle registration as well as access to various essential services at Rose and Jasmine Garden under the ICT doorstep initiative.
On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, the excise staff would be stationed at the park’s parking lot from 3.00 to 5.00 pm, ICT Spokesman Dr Abdullah Tabassum said.
This initiative aims to streamline processes and provide ease to the public regarding vehicle registration, transfer, and token tax procedures, he added.
In addition to the vehicle registration, transfer, and token tax services, the Facilitation Center Doorstep ICT Vehicle will also be offering the following services: domicile certificate, birth certificate, power of attorney, international driving permit, fuel permit (domestic/commercial), and Motor vehicle registration.
The citizens are urged not to miss this opportunity to simplify bureaucratic processes and get everything done at the Rose and Jasmine Garden parking lot today.

MoU signed between NIT Board and PSIC for prevention of heart diseases

LAHORE, Feb 14 (APP): A memorandum of understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation was signed between the National Information Technology Board (NITB) and the Pakistan Society of International Cardiology (PSIC) for the prevention and treatment of heart diseases.
Under the agreement, the National Information Technology Board (NITB) will provide digital and technical cooperation to the Pakistan Society of International Cardiology (PSIC) for data preparation and research for the prevention and treatment of heart diseases, including heart attacks.
The signing ceremony for the agreement took place at a local hotel here in the presence of Federal Minister for Information Technology Dr. Umar Saif on Wednesday.
In his address, the minister appreciated the initiative and said that it was a commendable project that will help save valuable human lives. He said that the government will provide all possible cooperation in this regard.
Earlier, NITB CEO Dr. Babar Majid Bhatti briefed the federal minister on the details of the agreement and explained that the completion of the project to establish national networks and databases would assist in the timely treatment of patients suffering from heart attacks.
He said that the agreement would prove to be very helpful for the primary and secondary prevention of heart attacks.
President PSIC Professor Dr. Zubair Akram, Vice President Professor Dr. Nauman Naseer, and CEO Dr. Babar Majid Bhatti signed the MOU on behalf of the PSIC.

Tractor trolley helper electrocuted

FAISALABAD, Feb 14 (APP): A youth died of electrocution while extinguishing fire on a sugarcane trolley at a village on Jaranwala-Khurrianwala road here on Wednesday.
According to Rescue-1122, a trolley loaded with sugarcane caught fire due to overhead live electric wires near adda Maharanwala on Jaranwala-Khurrianwala road. The helper when jump on the trolley to extinguish fire suffered fatal electric shock from wires and died instantly. The victim was identified as Shani s/o Falk Sher (25), resident of Chak No 105-RB.
Rescue team handed over the body to Saddar Jaranwala police station.
Separately, a 47-year-old man was crushed under the wheels of a train at Mamukanjan railway station. He came at the station to see-off his relatives but all of sudden he fell on the rail track and was crushed. The victim was later identified as Riaz Ahmad.
The body was handed over to heirs.

Wanted member of bike lifter gang arrested

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP): Islamabad Capital Police Aabpara police team have arrested a wanted member of a notorious bike lifter gang involved in numerous bike theft activities and recovered two stolen motorbikes from his possession

An ICP public relations officer said on Wednesday that, following the special directions of Islamabad Capital City Police officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the Islamabad Capital Police had categorically started a crackdown against criminal elements in order to save the precious lives and property of citizens.

Following these directions, the Aabpara police team used technical and human resources and succeeded in apprehending a wanted member of a notorious bike lifter gang involved in numerous bike lifting activities in various areas of Aabpara police station.

The accused was identified as Zohaib. Police team also recovered two stolen motorbikes from his possession. The cases have already been registered against the nabbed accused and further investigation is underway.

Islamabad Capital City Police officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan directed all senior officials for effective crackdown against the accused involved in criminal activities and said that safety of the lives and property of the citizens is our prime responsibility and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.
