KP Governor inaugurates IT lab at AUST

HAVELIAN, Feb 14 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Haji Ghulam Ali on Wednesday inaugurated a free IT lab at Abbottabad University of Science and Technology (AUST) to foster technological education and promote sustainable practices.
Addressing the gathering, Governor KP emphasized the significance of Free IT Labs in Fourth Generation Universities and applauded Abbottabad University’s efforts to obtain projects in information technology from global countries. He advocated for educational systems that prioritize skill acquisition over job pursuit and stressed the importance of empowering youth in the present era.
He further outlined plans to beautify the university’s vacant land and enhance its atmosphere by planting 10,000 trees. He underlined the importance of student involvement in the university’s care and beautification efforts.
He urged students to utilize information technology tools responsibly to shape a better future for themselves and society.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Malik Mujaddad ur Rehman underscored the importance of nurturing talent and ability among the province’s youth to empower them as valuable assets to the nation and society.
During the event, it was revealed that AUST has generated approximately $47,000 from various international-level projects in information technology. Furthermore, nearly 400 deserving and underprivileged students have been provided scholarships that reflect the university’s commitment to inclusive education.
Dr. Rahman also highlighted the significant advancements including the resolution of the university’s land issue and the complete elimination of the electricity bill through a $9 million investment in solar energy.
Following the inauguration, the Governor engaged with students in the IT lab and emphasized the acquisition of expertise in information technology.
Commendation certificates were distributed to students for their projects, while faculty members received shields in recognition of their contributions.

UET Teaching Staff Association executive committee elected

LAHORE, Feb 14 (APP):All executive committee members of the Teaching Staff Association (TSA) were elected unopposed in the annual elections of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET).
According to a notification, the newly elected president is Prof. Dr. Amjad Hussain, vice presidents are Dr. M. Faisal Hayat and Dr. Qasim Shaukat Khan, general secretary is Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Rafiq, joint secretary, Dr. Rashid Jalil is social secretary, and Aisha Hameed will be treasurer.
Executive members will be Ahsan Mehmood, Dr. Fahim Gohar, Dr. Imran Ali, Mr. Jawad Ahmad, M. Bilal Arshad, M. Moazzam Shahzad and Dr. Shamaila Samreen.
A large number of faculty members including newly elected officials participated in the annual meeting of the general body of the association.
Vice Chancellor UET Prof. Dr. Nasir Hayat was the chief guest at the ceremony, while Director Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Dr. Tanveer Qasim also attended the event with his presence.

DC urges parents to cooperate with polio teams

SUKKUR, Feb 14 (APP):A five-day polio vaccination campaign will start on February 26, in which the polio vaccine will be administered to children up to the age of five.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sukkur, Fayyaz Hussain Mahesar on Wednesday chaired a meeting in the committee room of his office to review arrangements.
The meeting was attended by all concerned officers including representatives of the WHO, Roraty and Red EPI.
The Deputy Commissioner Mahesar said that no child up to the age of five should be deprived of the polio vaccine during the anti-polio campaign. He emphasized the need for monitoring of members of mobile teams, transit teams, and fixed teams on the ground.
The deputy commissioner Sukkur said that polio physically weakens children and it is essential to administer polio vaccine drops to protect children from polio and for parents to cooperate with the polio teams.

SMBB’s Int’l Conference captivates medical professionals, researchers

LARKANA, Feb 14 (APP):The second day of the First International Conference on Emerging Trends in Basic Sciences witnessed a significant turnout, with the participation of faculty, students, and professionals from diverse medical departments on Wednesday.

The conference was organized at Chandka Medical College in collaboration with SMBB Medical University and Sindh Higher Education Commission.

The opening session was graced by the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nusrat Shah after which multiple sessions were conducted concurrently across five seminar halls. Each session focused on a specific field such as medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and physiotherapy.

The conference received a total of 198 articles whereas, after scrutiny 96 exceptional papers were selected for presentation during the two-day conference.

Experts termed presentations from Prof. Mohammad Ansar from QAU, Islamabad, Prof Kamarul Aryffin and Prof Zul Izhar Mohd Ismail from the University of SAINS Malaysia, and Prof Dileep Rohra from Saudi Arabia valuable addition to the conference.

Prof. Li Duan from Shen Zen University, China, Dr. Muhammad Hanif Pathan from the USA also shared insights into emerging trends in pathology. Director ORIC SMBBMU Larkana, Dr. Mir Hassan Khoso presented a comprehensive report of the inaugural comprising two-day conference and extended heartfelt appreciation to keynote speakers and participants.

The conference served as a fruitful platform for the exchange and collaboration among participants from esteemed institutions such as Dow University, Jinnah Medical & AKU University Karachi, LUMHS, PUMHS, Swat University, KP, Punjab University, Lahore and many others.

Moreover, the participation of international delegates from Harbin Medical University and Shenzhen University, China added a global perspective to the discussions.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah in her addresses to the conference, emphasized the groundbreaking nature of the conference in the realm of basic sciences as termed a great learning experience. She expressed her profound gratitude for the invaluable learning experience it provided and highlighted the pivotal roles of l technology including artificial intelligence, digital health, and emerging trends in medical sciences.

She concluded the two-day international conference by thanking international and national delegations who actively participated in the conference and commending the unwavering dedication of Director ORIC, Dr. Mir Hassan Khoso, Prof. Hakim Abro, and chairpersons of organizing committees for their relentless efforts that ensured the success of the event.
