COMSTECH, LRBT to arrange free eye camp

ISLAMABAD, Feb 15 (APP):COMSTECH in collaboration with LRBT will arrange a free Cataract Eye Camp in Ali Pur, remote area in Muzaffargarh, Punjab on February 24.
According to an official of COMSTECH, the Free Eye Camp embodies the vision of COMSTECH to prioritize healthcare accessibility and community welfare.
This campaign funded by COMSTECH is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals in need. By offering free medical consultations, medications, eyeglasses, and surgeries to address cataract-related issues, the camp aims to alleviate the burden of visual impairment and improve the overall quality of life for participants.
This initiative underscores the collective effort of COMSTECH and LRBT to fulfil their commitment to serving communities, particularly those underserved or marginalized, by providing essential healthcare services that empower individuals to lead healthier and more productive lives. Through such collaborative endeavours, COMSTECH continues to demonstrate its dedication to advancing healthcare accessibility and making a tangible difference in the lives of people across Pakistan.
COMSTECH the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) was established by the Third Islamic Summit of OIC held at Makkah, Saudi Arabia in January 1981.
Layton Rahmatullah Benevolent Trust (LRBT) is Pakistan’s largest non-governmental organisation, working to fight blindness in the country.
Established in 1984, it is based in Karachi with hospitals and primary eye care centres throughout the country

King’s to break winning streak of Sultan’s: Saad Baig

MULTAN, Feb 15 (APP): Captain of Pakistan Under-19 team and wicketkeeper batsman of Karachi Kings, Saad Baig said that the team would give 100 percent to break the winning streak of Multan Sultan at their home ground.

Talking to media persons at Multan Cricket Stadium before the practice session here on Thursday, Saad Baig said that the morale of the team was higher and a comprehensive strategy has been made to dominate in the tournament.

He said that he was very happy to become part of the Karachi Kings and applauded the team management for backing the players.

He said that training of the camps and practice would be utilized on the ground during matches. He said that the morale of the team was higher and they would give 100 percent to win matches.

To a question, Baig said that no doubt Multan Sultan was a good team and they had won maximum matches at their home ground Multan but this time their winning would be broken.

Multan Sultan’s not to repeat previous mistakes: Khushdil Shah

MULTAN, Feb 15 (APP): Senior player of Multan Sultan, Khushdil Shah Thursday said that the team would enter the ground with high spirits and the previous mistakes would not be repeated in the current edition of PSL 9.

Holding a press conference at Multan Cricket Stadium before the practice session here,, Khushdil Shah said that the team management has selected the team with a combination and strategy. He said that everyone has a role in the march and the players would play their role for dominance in the tournament.

He said that he was the most senior player of the Multan Sultan franchise as he had been representing Multan Sultan for the last six years.

He said that Muhammad Rizwan was a top player and he was aware of the strength of all players and he would use the players as per the situation of the match.

He said that the wicket of Multan Cricket Stadium was good and people have witnessed tough matches where high targets have been chased and low targets have also been defended. He said that the cricket fans from Multan always supported and praised all teams.

“We do not have Rilee Rossouw this season but senior player Iftekhar Ahmed as his replacement would be a good choice”, he said and added that Iftekhar has the capabilities to change the match position.

Khushdil Shah maintained that Multan Sultan has won more matches than Lahore Qalandars.

Achakzai urges public reject calls for disruption from losing candidates

QUETTA, Feb 15 (APP):Caretaker Balochistan Provincial Information Minister Jan Achakzai on Thursday urged the public to reject calls of agitation by the unsuccessful candidates and parties of elections, instead, he encouraged citizens to keep their role in efforts to promote national development and prosperity.
Minister Achakzai emphasized that creating chaos and blocking roads is not a solutions to existing problems. He characterized such actions as attempts by “rejected individuals” to mask their disappointment with the electoral outcome.
He advised those with genuine concerns to seek legal recourse rather than resorting to disruptive protests.
Furthermore, the Minister appealed to individuals blocking roads to consider the impact on ordinary citizens. He urged them to demonstrate peacefully on the side of the road, allowing for unimpeded traffic flow, if their intentions are truly focused on public well-being.
While acknowledging the democratic right to peaceful protest, he warned that obstructing roads and disregarding the law would not be tolerated for long. Such actions, he stated, undermine law and order and disrupt normal life for all.

Government formation talks inches forward as PML(N), PPP committees conclude second round

ISLAMABAD, Feb 15 (APP):The coordination committees of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have concluded their second round of talks, in which matters regarding government formation have moved forward.
The coordination committee has decided to conduct its third consultation session on Friday to finalize recommendations after consulting with their respective political leadership.
Senator Ishaq Dar, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, and Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan represented Pakistan Muslim League (N), while Syed Murad Ali Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Saeed Ghani, Sardar Bahadur Khan Sehar, Nadeem Afzal Chan, and Shazi Khan represented Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Court extends Pervaiz Elahi’s judicial remand

ISLAMABAD, Feb 15 (APP):The Anti-Terrorism Court of Islamabad on Thursday extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in the vandalism case.
Duty Judge Shahrukh Arjumand heard the case, who extended the accused’s judicial remand for 14 days.
The court adjourned the case till February 29.

MDA decides to buy new vehicles, raise tariff of Wasa commercial connections

MULTAN, Feb 15 (APP):The 94th meeting of Multan Development Authority (MDA’s) governing body held here Thursday approved the procurement of new vehicles to bring about improvement in performance of field staff of the civic body and raise the tariff for commercial connections of Wasa.
The meeting also decided to embark on further proceedings in the light of a letter issued by the Provincial government regarding financial assistance to MDA.
Deputy Commissioner Captain (Retired) Rana Rizwan Qadeer, Director General MDA Dr Muhammad Zahid Ikram, and engineer Muhammad Arfa representing the commissioner attended the meeting. House decided to designate DC as MDA chairman before the formal start of the meeting.
Managing Director WASA Chaudhry Muhammad Danish, Agha Riffat Khan from the finance department, Khalid Raza from the Housing Department, Muhammad Sajjad from the local government, Irfan Anjum from Planning and Development and all directors of MDA were present.
DG MDA briefed the meeting about agenda items, five of them related to MDA and two concerning Wasa.
The governing body decided to provide public utility plots in different MDA housing schemes to government departments, police, schools, hospitals and other public sectors at reserve price.
The meeting decided to form a five-member committee with authorization to decide the fate of additional areas other than demarcated plots in MDA’s own housing societies.
The committee would comprise DG MDA as its chairman while directors of MDA’s town planning, legal and engineering wings as its members.
MDA governing body also approved raising tariff for Wasa commercial connection and buy new vehicles.

Agri deptt focusing on cotton cultivation, production targets

LAHORE, Feb 15 (APP):Punjab Agriculture Secretary Nadir Chattha said on Thursday the department was utilizing all possible resources to achieve cotton cultivation and production targets.
He said this while presiding over a meeting held here. He said, “Cotton is the most important crop of the Kharif season and has key importance for the country’s economy.”
This year, field formations had been assigned a special task for the technical guidance of farmers from cotton cultivation to picking, he said and added that in this regard, a special awareness campaign was underway in Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Sargodha and Multan divisions for early cotton cultivation in the first phase.
He said that all the relevant field formations should guide the farmers to use triple genes varieties recommended by the Agriculture department for the early sowing of cotton.
He further said that agriculture extension staff at village level should provide all possible facilities to the farmers.
The Agriculture Secretary further said that strict monitoring was being carried out to ensure the availability of quality agricultural inputs in the markets. He said, “Early sowing helps improving the quality of cotton and reducing chances of attack by harmful insects.”
Farmers should be provided with guidance on all matters related to early sowing of cotton crop this year, he said.
