KP Govt launches GIS-based CUIPTMIS

PESHAWAR, Feb 16 (APP):The caretaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has successfully launched GIS-based Centralized Urban Immovable Property Tax Management and Information System (CUIPTMIS) to transform the whole property tax regime into an automated, transparent and robust mechanism.
The initiative is an important step towards enhancing tax collection, improving the management of public resources and facilitating taxpayers in the province
A ceremony, in this regard, was held here at Chief Minister’s House Peshawar on Friday with the caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice (R) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah as chief guest.
Besides, caretaker provincial ministers Ahmed Rasool Bangash and Engr. Ahmed Jan, Secretary Excise and Taxation Syed Fayyaz Ali Shah, Secretary Local Government Daud Khan and other relevant officials attended the ceremony.
The newly launched Management and Information System (MIS) has been completed at a total cost of Rs 95.898 million. Initially, the project has been launched for two districts of the province; Nowshera and Abbottabad, and would soon be replicated in the rest of the districts of the province.
Under the project, 50938 new property units have been identified in districts Abbottabad and Nowshera, and thus, the total number of property units in the two districts has increased to 90,938. Resultantly, the demand for tax revenue in both of the districts has also increased from Rs 69 million to Rs 123 million in Nowshera and from Rs. 83 million to Rs. 143 million in Abbottabad.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister lauded the role of the Excise and Taxation department for launching this important project and said that the newly developed system will not only improve tax collection and management mechanisms but also facilitate the tax payers in the province by providing an integrated online system and grievance redress mechanism.
The addition of new property units in the valuation list will also result in revenue growth for the province, he remarked and added that the complicated mechanism of tax payment has always been a serious problem for citizens, due to which they were hesitant to paying taxes; but now through the newly established UIP Tax Management and Information System, they can pay taxes from their home by using online tax paying facility.
On this occasion, he expressed the hope that the Excise department will continue to adopt technologically advanced techniques in the future as well, so as to further advance its tax collection and public facilitation system.

Jam Kamal vows to remove Balochistan’s sense of deprivation

QUETTA, Feb 16 (APP):Former Chief Minister of Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan Alyani, on Friday said PML-N will try its best to work up to the expectations of the people of the province.
Speaking at a state-run news channel, he said Pakistan Muslim League (N) will make concerted efforts to remove sense of deprivation prevailing in Balochistan.
“It is economic and social backwardness that lead to sense of deprivation among masses in Balochistan,” he said while reiterating party’s resolve to live up to the expectations of the common man of the province.
To a question, he said due to lack of central leadership, Balochistan Awami Party could not show discipline in Balochistan. “The decision at the center reflects governance in the provinces,” he maintained.
Former CM expressing optimism over role of newly-elect political parties said, would be coalition partners will make tireless efforts to resolve the burning issues of Balochistan.

May-9 violence: ATC sends independent MPA-elect to jail for identification parade

LAHORE, Feb 16 (APP):An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday sent independent MPA-elect Ahmer Rasheed Bhatti to jail on 7-day judicial remand for identification parade in a case of attacking Jinnah House, during May-9 riots.
Earlier, the police produced Ahmer Rasheed Bhatti before ATC Judge Muhammad Naveed Iqbal and requested the court to send the accused to jail for identification parade. The police submitted the accused was involved in attacking Jinnah House and claimed that a video footage was also available in this regard.
However, the defence counsel opposed the plea and requested the court to discharge his client from the case.
The court, after hearing arguments of the parties, allowed the police’s plea and sent the accused to jail for identification parade. The court directed for producing the accused on expiry of the remand term, February 23.
The Sarwar Road police had registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders and workers on charges of attacking Jinnah House (also known as the residence of corps commander Lahore), during May-9 riots.

163 injured in cylinder blast

FAISALABAD, Feb 16 (APP):Three women received serious injuries in a cylinder blast incident in the area of Sadar Jaranwala police station.
Rescue 1122 spokesman said here on Friday that a family was busy in preparing tea in Chak 56-GB Jassuana when the LPG cylinder blew up all of sudden.
As a result, Razia Bibi (60), her daughter Saba (25) and granddaughter Mira (6 months) received serious injuries and Rescue 1122 shifted them to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in a critical condition.

WASA initiates action against absentees

FAISALABAD, Feb 16 (APP):Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) has initiated action against the absentees and those employees who failed to join their duties after transfer and posting.
Presiding over a meeting at WASA Head Office here on Friday, Managing Director Amir Aziz said that WASA was providing quality service and in this connection its officials and officers should perform their duties honestly and diligently.
He directed to take strict departmental action against the employees who were in the habit of absence from their duties or were reluctant to join their duties at new points after transfer and posting.
He said that their attitude create problems in smooth functioning of the agency. Therefore, strict departmental action would be initiated against them without any discrimination.
He directed the Administration Directorate to evolve a comprehensive attendance mechanism and complete attendance report of all WASA employees from deputy director to sub-engineer level should be submitted at 9 a.m. daily.
He said that provision of quality service and redressal of public complaints was the top priority of the agency and no negligence, lethargy or delinquency would be tolerated in this regard, he added.

Shaheen sees opportunity for emerging players in Rashid’s absence

LAHORE, Feb 16 (APP):The HBL PSL 9 defending champions Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has said the team will miss ace leg-spinner Rashid Khan during the tournament as the bowler was instrumental in winning two consecutive titles.
During pre HBL PSL 9 press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Friday, he said Rashid Khan had a big role in team, adding that Rashid Khan’s absence was an opportunity for the emerging players to make their mark as they are as good as it gets.
Rashid Khan could not join the team due to national duty for the Afghanistan National team. Shaheen Shah Afridi expressed the hope that the Lahore Qalandars will continue its winning spree in the HBL PSL 9. He said the team was not under any kind of pressure, adding that they were committed to do well.
On Naseem Shah as a foe, he said he wished full recovery to the his bowling partner as his presence was needed in the national team.
About his fitness and pace, the ace pace bowler said he was fit as a fiddle and felt very good, adding that he had always bowled at 130 to 140 km per hour and it was on two occasions that he touched 150 mark.
He said Rassie van Dusen’s presence in the batting line-up will bolster the batting while the team had all ends covered. He admitted the the fact that his trio with Haris Rauf and Zaman Khan made their bowling formidable.

561 centers established for Matric exams: Commissioner

FAISALABAD, Feb 16 (APP):Divisional Commissioner Madam Silwat Saeed said that 561 examination centers were established across the division for annual Matriculation Examinations 2024.
Chairing a meeting here on Friday, she reviewed the arrangements and said that Matric Exams would commence from 1st March 2024 and in this connection flawless arrangements would be ensured.
She said that special control rooms would be activated in all four districts in addition to deputing focal persons at training centers. She directed the district education authority to finalize the lists of examination staff and hold meetings with the officers of Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) to remove flaws from the examination arrangements.
Secretary BISE Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Controller Examination Dr Muhammad Jaffar Ali and CEOs Education of all four districts were also present in the meeting.

Early cotton cultivation to give bumper production: DD Agriculture

FAISALABAD, Feb 16 (APP):Deputy Director (DD) Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood said that the early cultivation of cotton crops would give bumper yield and play a pivotal role to stabilize the national economy.
Addressing a farmers’ day function in Tandlianwala here on Friday, he said that cotton was a precious cash crop which not only provided raw material to the local textile, ginning and ghee industries but also played its active role in enhancing national textile exports and fetching precious foreign exchange for stabilizing national economy.
He said that early cotton cultivation would give maximum production and help the growers to mitigate their financial constraints as the early cultivated crops would not witness pest attacks and severity of seasonal diseases.
He said that best time for early cotton cultivation was from February 15 to March 31. Therefore, the growers should ensure early cotton cultivation over maximum space in their fields after harvesting canola and sugarcane crops and use quality seed of hybrid and approved varieties including CKC-5, CKC-6, Hatf-3, Ghauri-2 and ICS-386, etc.
He advised the growers to use 4 to 6 kg seed per acre and apply pesticide and fungicide to the seed before sowing it. The farmers should use 2 bags of DAP, 1.5 bag of SOP and 4.25 bags of Urea fertilizers per acre at the time of cultivation while first watering should be ensured within 3 to 4 days after sowing.
He said that agriculture department had formed 31 teams with a task to guide and persuade the farmers for early cotton cultivation. The farmers should use latest technology for cultivation and in this connection, they should also consult agriculture experts from nearest agriculture department, he added.

Shadab want to make comeback thru HBL PSL 9

LAHORE, Feb 16 (APP):Islamabad United Captain Shadab sees HBL PSL 9 as the platform to make a comeback to the national side. Shadab Khan was picked for the New Zealand T20I series against New Zealand after lacklustre performances in the Asia Cup and the ICC men’s World Cup in India.
To a question, the Islamabad United captain said he had put the lacklustre performances behind, and he was fully focused on the tournament ahead.
“I have set the goal to win Player of the Tournament at the HBL PSL 9,” he responded.
On pressure with too many all-rounders in the team, he said a big stage does have its pressure, adding he has confidence in the all-round abilities of his players.
On his performance, he said cricket is a team game and team performance helps win games, adding that it was important to perform as captain of the team.
About plans for the big game at the opening match of the HBL PSL 9, he said, “We keep things simple and have simple plans for the match against Lahore Qalnadars.”
On the opponents in the opening match of the HBL PSL 9, he said, Lahore Qalnadars have been growing fast over the years and they are a formidable side.
About Shah brothers (Naseem, Ubaid and Hunain) being preferred to Muhammad Wasim Jr. and Hasan Ali, he expressed the young Shahs will perform well for the Islamabad United, adding that the three brother may play together for the team.
On Naseem Shah’ fitness, Shadab said the ace pace bowler was doing well in the net and look super fit.
To the Islamabad United fabs, he urged the fans to be patient with Naseem Shah’s performance after come back from the injury. Shadab was hopeful that Tymil Mills’ presence in the team will do a lot good to team’s performance in the death overs. He said Naseem Shah and Tymil Mills will contain the teams in the death overs.

Aneeq acknowledges Saudi ambassador’s role in pilgrim services

ISLAMABAD, Feb 16 (APP): Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Aneeq Ahmed, extended gratitude to Saudi Ambassador Nawaf Saeed Al-Maliki on behalf of Pakistani pilgrims for the cooperation and excellent facilities provided by Saudi Arabia.

Minister Aneeq Ahmed and Saudi Ambassador Nawaf Saeed Al-Maliki discussed finalizing arrangements for Hajj 2024 and expanding the ‘Road to Makkah’ project during a meeting at the Saudi Embassy.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Pakistan Hajj Mission are maintaining continuous communication with Saudi authorities to ensure timely completion of Hajj arrangements.

Minister added that in accordance with Saudi directives, applicants for the private Hajj scheme have been provided with additional facilities.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has formed a total of 146 hajj organising companies and their particulars are available at the ministry. The booking process for private Hajj pilgrims has already started.

The Saudi Ambassador pledged full cooperation to private Hajj companies. Additionally, he mentioned that senior Saudi officials will visit Pakistan in the final week of February to finalize the ‘Road to Makkah’ project at Karachi airport. Private scheme pilgrims will also be included into the Road to Makkah project alongside government pilgrims.
