Urumqi resumes fresh seafood imports from Pakistan after two-year pause

0
BEIJING, Aug. 8 (APP):Urumqi Tianshan International Airport has received its first shipment of fresh seafood imports from Pakistan in two years, signaling the reopening of its designated inspection site for inbound aquatic products.
The 1,292-kilogram consignment—including black pomfret, prawns, hairtail, and grouper—arrived on China Southern Airlines flight CZ6008 from Islamabad. The shipment follows two months of coordination among importers, customs, and airport authorities.
Previously, seafood sold in Xinjiang was mainly transported from China’s coastal regions, adding time and cost. Direct air shipments now shorten transit times, helping preserve freshness and reduce expenses for importers.
Customs officials at Tianshan Airport facilitated rapid clearance by coordinating with stakeholders in advance, streamlining inspections, and ensuring compliance at all checkpoints, according to China Economic Net on Friday.
Pakistan’s deep-sea fisheries offer high-quality seafood that is increasingly popular with Chinese consumers. The reopening of Urumqi’s cold chain infrastructure marks a step forward in regional trade connectivity.
Xinjiang Airport Group plans to expand its capabilities by applying for official designation to import edible aquatic animals. Leveraging the airport’s extensive network across Asia, Europe, and Africa, it aims to bring fresh global products—such as cherries, lobsters, and salmon—directly to local consumers’ tables, according to the group.

The wrestling coach had claimed in the media that the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is not cooperating in wrestlers’ training for the Asian Youth Games 2025 preparations, said a press release.
The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), terming the said statement baseless and misleading, has clarified that full cooperation is being provided for wrestlers’ training in preparation for the Asian Youth Games 2025.
Not only is the Pakistan Sports Board providing complete facilities for training, but it has also provided the facility of a foreign training camp for wrestlers in connection with the preparations for the Asian Youth Games 2025.
According to PSB, the Pakistan Wrestling Federation had requested a foreign training camp for 4 wrestlers and 1 coach in preparation for the Asian Youth Games 2025 and the Youth Olympic Games 2026.
The PSB approved this request and instructed the federation to provide the training plan inclusive dates of travel, training programme abroad, boarding and lodging arrangements, and other details so that immediate implementation could take place.
Furthermore, upon the federation’s request, the PSB issued in advance a total of Rs 7.55 million more than the requested Rs 6.60 million, for the camp (Cheque No. B-520058, dated 22 May 2025), so that the training camp could be held without delay.

Dr. Allama Iqbal’s Allabad address laid foundation of Pakistan: Dr. Yunus Khan

0

PESHAWAR, Aug 08 (APP): Chairman, Pakistan Studies Department at Islamia College Peshawar, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus Khan said that Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s historic address at Allabad in 1930 has laid the foundation of Pakistan.
“The Muslims in Indian subcontinent faced severe marginalization under British colonial rule following unsuccessful uprising of 1857 and found themselves increasingly sidelined as the colonial administration began favoring the Hindu majority,” he told APP here Friday.
Amidst these challenging times, he said visionary leaders such as Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Shah Waliullah, Mujaddid Alif Sani and later Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah rose to awaken the Muslim political consciousness.
He said the formation of the All-India Muslim League (AIML) on December 30, 1906, in Dhaka marked the beginning of organized political struggle by Muslims for their rights. “The entry of Quaid-e-Azam into the League in 1913, followed by his famous Fourteen Points in 1929 in response to the Nehru Report, played a crucial role in safeguarding Muslim political rights and representation in British India,” he said.
However, it was the historic address of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal at Allahabad on December 29, 1930, that marked a turning point in the ideological struggle for a separate Muslim homeland in subcontinent.
Speaking at the 25th session of the All-India Muslim League, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the philosopher-poet and political thinker, presented a clear and visionary concept of a separate state for Muslims in northwestern India.
“Muslims are a nation,” Dr Iqbal declared, “by every right to be called a nation according to any definition of a nation.”
“Dr Iqbal emphasized that Muslims were not merely a religious group, but a separate nation with their own cultural, religious, and historical identity. He proposed the creation of a separate Muslim state in northwestern India, encompassing Punjab, Sindh, the North-West Frontier Province (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), and Balochistan,” he explained.
Dr. Younas added that Dr Iqbal feared that under a Hindu-majority rule, Muslims would be politically, culturally, and religiously oppressed. He called for Muslim autonomy not merely for political purposes but to preserve Islamic values, civilization and achieve freedom.
Inspired by Dr Iqbal’s vision, the All India Muslim League intensified its political movement under Quaid-e-Azam’s leadership. A decade later, this vision materialized into a concrete political demand in the form of the Pakistan Resolution, passed at the historic session of the Muslim League at Iqbal Park, Lahore, on March 23, 1940.
The resolution declared that no constitutional arrangement would be acceptable unless Muslim-majority areas were grouped into independent states with full autonomy and sovereignty.
It laid the foundation for the future map of Pakistan, encompassing the northwestern provinces Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and NWFP—as well as Bengal and Assam in the northeast.
The resolution was seconded and supported by key leaders from across Muslim-majority provinces, including Maulana Zafar Ali Khan (Punjab), Sardar Aurangzeb (NWFP), Sir Abdullah Haroon (Sindh), and Qazi Isa (Balochistan).
The Pakistan Movement gained further momentum after Chaudhary Rehmat Ali coined the term “Pakistan” in 1933 during a meeting in Cambridge, giving the movement a name and identity.
Despite the Congress-led civil disobedience and Quit India movements in the 1940s, the All-India Muslim League, under Quaid-e-Azam’s steadfast leadership, continued its political campaign across Muslim-majority regions.
Quaid-e-Azam reorganized the League on modern lines and toured extensively to mobilize support. The 1945–46 elections proved a decisive moment, as the Muslim League swept all Muslim seats in the central legislature and dominated the provincial assemblies, reflecting the overwhelming support for the idea of Pakistan.
After decades of political struggle, sacrifices, and negotiations, the dream envisioned in Allahabad became a reality on August 14, 1947, with the creation of Pakistan.
Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah became the country’s first Governor General, leading the nation born from the vision articulated by Allama Iqbal 17 years earlier.
Dr. Younas concluded that while Iqbal’s Allahabad Address was not a political demand in the conventional sense, it was a visionary declaration that changed the course of South Asian history. It laid the intellectual and ideological foundations upon which the edifice of Pakistan was eventually built.
Today, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal is rightfully honored as the spiritual father of Pakistan, and his Allahabad Address remains a cornerstone of the nation’s ideological and political journey.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Foreign Office Spokesperson, Ambassador, Shafqat Ali Khan on Friday said Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, promoting regional peace, and standing in solidarity with the Palestinian and Kashmiri people.
The foreign office spokesperson addressed the weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.
Welcoming President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian’s state visit to Pakistan on August 2–3, Ambassador Khan noted that the visit came at a pivotal time for the region. The Iranian President was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and senior ministers, he added.
During the visit, he said President Pezeshkian held meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
President Zardari, in his meeting, underscored the fraternal ties between the two nations grounded in shared religion, culture, and mutual respect. He strongly condemned the “unprovoked Israeli aggression” against Iran and lauded the Iranian nation’s unity and bravery during the recent 12-day war. He expressed hope that the visit would further cement bilateral ties, Ambassador Khan said.
President Pezeshkian, in turn, thanked Pakistan for its consistent support during the war, praising its diplomatic advocacy for de-escalation and peaceful conflict resolution, he added.
In talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Ambassador Khan said both leaders emphasized solidarity and discussed expanding the bilateral trade volume from the current $3 billion to $10 billion. Key initiatives included enhancing barter trade, increasing export quotas for rice, fruits, and meat, and operationalizing border markets, he mentioned.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar also called on President Pezeshkian and separately met with his Iranian counterpart Seyyed Abbas Araghchi to hold preliminary discussions on bilateral and regional issues, he said.
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan highlighted Pakistan’s continued humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. On August 3, Senator Ishaq Dar oversaw the dispatch of Pakistan’s 17th aid consignment to Gaza, 100 tons of food, powdered milk, and medical equipment.
A day later, Senator Dar officiated the send-off ceremony for the 18th humanitarian aid consignment, consisting of dry rations, meals, and medicines. This brings Pakistan’s total humanitarian assistance to Gaza to 18 shipments totaling 1,815 tons, reaffirming Islamabad’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.
On that occasion, he said Senator Dar reiterated Pakistan’s call for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, and a political solution based on the pre-1967 borders in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
Ambassador Khan categorically rejected what he called “baseless and unfounded allegations” regarding the involvement of Pakistani nationals in the Ukraine conflict. “No verifiable evidence has been presented, nor has Pakistan been formally approached by Ukrainian authorities,” he said, adding that the matter would be taken up with Kyiv to seek clarification.
The spokesperson condemned in the strongest terms the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by thousands of Israeli settlers, including senior officials and Knesset members. “These provocations, accompanied by offensive declarations, are deliberate attempts to inflame religious sentiments and destabilize the region,” he warned, urging the UN and international community to act urgently to safeguard the sanctity of Al-Aqsa and uphold Palestinian rights.
Addressing the sixth anniversary of India’s unilateral and illegal actions of August 5, 2019, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), Ambassador Khan said Pakistan observed Yaum-e-Istehsal with solemn resolve. Special messages were issued by the President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister, reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering political, diplomatic, and moral support for the Kashmir cause, he added.
Senator Ishaq Dar, he said also wrote to the UN Secretary-General, President of the UN General Assembly, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and OIC Secretary-General to highlight the deteriorating human rights situation in IIOJK and press for implementation of UN Security Council resolutions.
A solidarity walk led by Senator Dar and joined by Foreign Office staff, civil society, and citizens was held in Islamabad to mark the occasion, he added.
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan concluded the briefing by reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering stance on key foreign policy issues and its commitment to promoting regional peace, justice, and solidarity with oppressed peoples worldwide.
