2-day conference on interfaith harmony concludes at IUB

BAHAWALPUR, Feb 20 (APP):The two-day international conference on the theme of religious tolerance for a sustainable world has concluded at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB).
Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Dr. Ehtisham Anwar was the chief guest of the concluding session. Senior Dean Faculty of Chemical and Biological Sciences Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum was the guest of honor on this occasion.
At this conference, from many countries including Pakistan, Brunei Darussalam, USA, Uganda, Belgium and Malaysia eminent scholars like Prof. Dr. Harman, Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi, Vice Chancellor Women University Multan, Prof. Dr. Saeed ur Rahman, Chairman Department of Islamic Studies, Institute of Southern Punjab, Dr. Abdul Samad, Dr. Ayesha Qurarat Al-Ain and Allah Bakhsh Kuliar Member Islamic Ideology Council participated.
Two parallel sessions were held on the final day. Among them, the role of world peace in religious freedom and human rights, a comprehensive approach in religious affairs, the role of tolerance and religious harmony in religious affairs, the behavior of Muslim governments with minorities, interfaith harmony, and psychological understanding in international relations, role of religious freedom and world peace in human rights, stability of mutual tolerance among religious groups, role of inter-religious harmony in social development, climate change mitigation, research on the role and effects of inter-religious organizations under the United Nations. The review, the role of religious development in economic development and stability, and the services of the Christian, Hindu, and Sikh communities in Pakistani society included important topics.
Dean Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies Pro. Dr. Sheikh Shafiq ur Rehman and the focal person of the conference Dr. Sajeela Kausar thanked the domestic and foreign delegates who participated.
Dr. Sajeela Kausar presented the recommendations of the conference, the key points of which were to promote interfaith dialogue and cooperation to promote understanding and unity among diverse religious communities. Implement educational programs that teach tolerance, empathy, and respect for all faiths from an early age to foster a culture of religious harmony. Develop policies and initiatives that encourage environmental responsibility and sustainability based on religious teachings and beliefs. Advocate for religious freedom and human rights as essential components of world peace and harmony. Support grassroots interfaith initiatives that promote social justice, equity, and inclusion within communities. Empower youth to play an active role in interfaith engagement and efforts to build bridges for sustainable cooperation and peace. Use digital media platforms responsibly to combat religious misunderstandings, promote dialogue, and bridge divisions. Engage religious leaders and institutions in promoting ethical economic practices that prioritize social responsibility and equitable development. Encourage cultural exchange and cooperation among religious communities to address common social challenges. Promote research and scholarship on interfaith harmony and peace-building to advance understanding and evidence-based practices. Invest in capacity-building programs that empower religious leaders to be agents of positive change and reconciliation in their communities. Establish interfaith councils or forums at local, national, and international levels to facilitate ongoing dialogue and collaboration. Integrate religious perspectives and values into the policy-making process to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach to addressing global challenges.
Provide support for faith-based humanitarian and charitable initiatives promoting compassion, empathy, and solidarity across religious lines. Celebrate and promote the rich diversity of religious traditions while recognizing the common humanity that unites us all. These recommendations will be forwarded to the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and other religious institutions.

96 GCWU students get scholarships of Rs 3.39 million

FAISALABAD, Feb 20 (APP):As many as 96 students of various departments from academic session 2023-27 of Government College Women University, Faisalabad were awarded need based scholarships of Rs 3.39 million by Inter-loop private limited.
On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zal-i-Huma Nazli appreciated the efforts of the Interloop management for awarding scholarships for needy students which would help them in getting higher education.
She urged the students to focus their attention on education, study with hard work and dedication so that they could get the best position in practical life and play their role in the construction of a welfare society.

70th Birthday of Abida Parveen celebrated

HYDERABAD, Feb 20 (APP):One of the most illustrious Sufi singers of the subcontinent Abida Parveen’s 70th birth anniversary was celebrated here on Tuesday.
Abida was Born on February 20th, 1954, in Larkana, where she inherited musical talents from her father, Ustad Ghulam Hyder, a renowned singer and music teacher who provided her with invaluable training.
Parveen’s journey into the world of music began in the early 1970s, initially performing at local festivals. However, it was in the early 1990s that she emerged as the most prominent Sufi singer, captivating audiences with her mesmerizing voice and profound spiritual depth.
Over the years, her contributions to music have been duly recognized, with accolades such as the Pride of Performance Award (1984), Sitara-e-Imtiaz Award (2005), Hilal-e-Imtiaz Award (2012), and numerous others adorning her illustrious career. On this auspicious day, we extend our warmest wishes to this legendary singer, whose artistry continues to inspire and uplift souls across the globe.
Meanwhile, people belong to different segments of life, cultural societies arranged programmes in which rich tributes were paid to great singer. Radio Pakistan Hyderabad also telecasted programme titled ‘Sindh Surhan’

11 kite sellers arrested

RAWALPINDI, Feb 20 (APP):In a drive launched against the violators of laws, the district police arrested eleven kite sellers and recovered 1350 kites and strings from their possession on Tuesday.
         According to police spokesman, Rata Amral police recovered 600 kites from the accused Ahmed, 500 kites from Numan, 40 kites from Moeez, and 30 kites from Anush.
          In another operation, Taxila police recovered 80 kites from Faizan, while Pirwadhai police recovered 40 kites and 02 strings from Saleh.
         Similarly, Bani police recovered 20 kites from Abdul Sami, 15 kites and 02 strings from accused Abrar.
         While continuing the operation, Race Course police recovered 10 kites and 02 strings from Mudassar, 07 kites from  Waqas.  Police have registered separate cases and started further investigation.
         Meanwhile, City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Mehmood Hamdani while appreciating the performance of police teams  said that kite flying is a dangerous sport in residential areas and public places that poses a serious threat to human lives.
         He warned that strict action would be taken against the kite flyers and kite sellers.

Arrangements for Cholistan Rally reviewed

BAHAWALPUR, Feb 20 (APP):The arrangements for the 19th TDCP International Cholistan Desert Rally and Cultural Festival were reviewed in a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa.
 Various officials including GM Operations TDCP Wahid Arjumad, TDCP Official Misbah Isaq, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Muhammad Sarwar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Sumera Rabani, Assistant Commissioner Yazman Mujahid Abbas, Assistant Commissioner Ahmedpur East Faisal Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Bahawalpur City Adeel Khan, CEO Bahawalpur Waste Management Company Naeem Akhtar, representative of Hobara Foundation Major (retd) Omar Mehdi, officers from Traffic Police, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122, Civil Defense, Highways Department, Islamia University Bahawalpur, District Sports, and other relevant departments were present.
Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa directed that the arrangements for the TDCP International Cholistan Desert Rally be executed magnificently, covering aspects such as traffic management, parking, rally routes, craft and food stalls, and sports competitions in a splendid manner.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Sumera Rabani mentioned that on the occasion of the 19th Cholistan Desert Rally, car registration and technical inspection for the rally will take place on February 21.
Furthermore, she informed that a qualifying round will be held in Cholistan on February 22, followed by the first round of prepared cars on February 23, and a stock category race along with a dirt bike race on February 24, as well as a cultural show.
On February 25, the prepared category race and truck race will take place, followed by the prize distribution ceremony. The Cholistan Fort will be adorned with beautiful decorations during the Cholistan Rally. The Sports Department will organize competitions including Kabaddi, traditional wrestling, volleyball, and tug of war at the International Cholistan Desert Rally.

Food Authority seizes hundreds of liters of substandard juice, imposes fines

PESHAWAR, Feb 20 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Tuesday conducted a targeted inspection against adulteration in Peshawar which resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of hazardous cold drinks.
The spokesperson for the Authority provided details of the operation, stating that the food safety team in Peshawar recently conducted a raid at the Motorway Toll Plaza and inspected vehicles transporting food and beverage items into Peshawar city.
During the inspection, the Food Safety team confiscated over 1200 liters of substandard juice from one vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was heavily fined, and further legal action will be taken under the Food Safety Act.
Director General of the Food Safety Authority, Shafiullah Khan has praised the success of the operation and urged all teams to escalate their efforts in combating the adulteration mafia across the province.
 He stressed a zero-tolerance policy towards compromising health standards and promised stringent punitive measures against those involved in such activities.
