PNS Yamama launching ceremony held at Romania’s DAMEN Shipyard Galati

RAWALPINDI, Feb 21 (APP): The launching ceremony of state-of-the-art 4th Offshore Patrol Vessel, PNS YAMAMA (Desig) being built for Pakistan Navy was held at DAMEN Shipyard Galati, Romania.

Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami attended the occasion as Chief Guest, an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff underscored the importance of maritime security under the prevailing conventional and non-conventional maritime threats to energy and trade highways passing through Indian Ocean Region.

In this context, he highlighted that Pakistan Navy had tremendous contribution in maintaining safe and secure sea environment for maritime trade. The Admiral expressed his confidence that induction of these multipurpose and highly adaptive platforms; equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors will further strengthen combat capability of PN Fleet in safeguarding maritime frontiers while ensuring Maritime Security in the Indian Ocean Region, especially in the Arabian Sea.

Earlier during his welcome address, Chief Operations Officer of DAMEN Group Netherlands highlighted that DAMEN Shipyard and Pakistan Navy are enjoying historic relations since 1986.

He highlighted that DAMEN would continue to deliver cost effective, technologically advanced and potent ships to PN to meet their operational requirements.

The launching ceremony was attended by high ranking officials from Romanian Government and Navy, Pakistan Navy, DAMEN and notables from Pakistani community in Romania.

Royal College starts ophthalmology exams at Al-Shifa Trust

RAWALPINDI, Feb 21 (APP):The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London has started its oral examinations for ophthalmology and refraction certificates in Pakistan as per its last year’s decision.
President Al-Shifa Eye Trust, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Rehmat Khan, stated in a statement that it was an important milestone that provided an opportunity to Pakistani ophthalmologists for earning internationally recognized credentials, advance their expertise, and improve eye care services throughout the nation.
He claimed that a well-known institute from the UK was holding internationally recognized eye expert tests for the first time in Pakistan, which was an honor for us.
Last year, the college announced its partnership with Al-Shifa Eye Trust Rawalpindi, and now a team of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists had come to Pakistan for conducting tests, he added.
He stated, “It is a great honor for the nation, and credit goes to the dedication of all those serving in the Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital for providing high-quality eye treatment to patients with the help of state-of-the-art equipment.”
“A team from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists visited Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital last year and found facilities appropriate for performing the exams, and  were satisfied with arrangements during the ongoing visit,” he added.
He said that the team of foreign specialists was pleased with the variety of patients, treatment arrangements, the latest equipment, security and safety measures, and other measures that up to international standards.
Rehmat Khan said that, now, with Al Shifa Trust as the chosen venue, doctors pursuing the Fellowship Diploma can conveniently undergo the practical exams in Pakistan.
The Fellowship Diploma was internationally recognized, allowing ophthalmologists to practice anywhere in the world.
This milestone not only brings great honor to Al-Shifa Trust but also showcases Pakistan’s capability to host and support an institution of such caliber.
Dr. Wajid Ali Khan, Chief of Medical Services, anticipated that the number of doctors appearing in the tests would gradually increase as the first year’s participation was encouraging.
“These fellowship exams will help physicians to meet international standards for high-quality eye care by improving their ethical knowledge and communication skills,” he emphasized.
“After passing these esteemed examinations, Pakistani ophthalmologists will be able to serve eye patients more effectively and will also be able to secure jobs as consultants in the Middle East, England, Australia, and other countries,” he stated.
“This will impart the latest knowledge in seven categories of eye diseases,” he concluded.
Examiners include Dr. Daniel Nolan, Dr. Bernard Chang, Dr. Mohamed Elalfy, Dr. Simon Knightley, and Dr. Gwyn Williams would conduct the exam while the examinees include one applicant from Singapore and seventeen from Pakistan.

PHC grants protective bail to Mian Aslam

PESHAWAR, Feb 21 (APP):The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday granted protective bail to Mian Muhammad Aslam.
During the hearing, the lawyer of the petitioner, Shah Faisal Atmankhil Advocate, argued that the petitioner had been elected as a member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab and was also a candidate for the Chief Minister of Punjab but feared arrest by police.
The court ordered that the petitioner should not be arrested as he would appear in the Lahore High Court within two-week.

SCCI donates office equipment to BFC manager

SIALKOT, Feb 21 (APP):President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Abdul Ghafoor Malik hosted a delegation from the Business Facilitation Centre (BFC) Sialkot, marking a significant occasion wherein essential office supplies and equipment were formally handed over.
During the meeting, the SCCI president stressed the need to bolster awareness of the facilitation centre among the business community to enable a larger number of businesses to reap the benefits of the transformative initiative, spearheaded by the Punjab government.
BFC Manager Syed Haider Munir provided a comprehensive briefing, stating that the BFC successfully processed 273 applications for various no-objection certificates, (NOCs) and Registrations, Licenses, Certificates and Other permits (RLCOs) within a month. He expressed commitment to further enhancing centre’s productivity and output.
SCCI President Abdul Ghafoor reaffirmed the chamber’s steadfast support for the BFC. He promised continued assistance on behalf of the Sialkot Chamber.

ICT admin launches anti-encroachment operation

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration on Wednesday carried out an anti-encroachment operation in Aabpara market to ensure its smooth functioning.
According to a spokesman of ICT, the operation was conducted to enhance traffic flow and curb illegal encroachments under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad.
The accused involved in collecting extortion from roadside vendors, cart pullers, fruit shop owners, and hotels were also arrested. Cases have been registered against them.
He said that the operation was being conducted at Aabpara market and traders extended full cooperation to the administration in that regard.
The CDA enforcement directorate was also be involved in the drive to make it successful.
The operation underscored the commitment of local authorities and vital for the daily lives of residents.
He said that the operation was conducted in the presence of ICT Administration officers, sufficient strength of Islamabad Police to prevent any law and order situation during the operation.

NA Secretariat established one window facilitation centre for newly elected MNAs

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):The National Assembly Secretariat has established a one-window facilitation center to assist and support newly elected Members of the National Assembly.
        The center will operate on Thursday (January 22, 2023),  from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm,  at the Parliament House in Islamabad, said a news release issued here on Wednesday.
       This facilitation center aims to provide various services, including the registration of newly elected MNAs, capturing official photos for their official cards, and assisting in completing necessary documents.
        To streamline the process and avoid any inconvenience, newly elected members are encouraged to visit the facilitation center in Committee Room No. 2, at  Parliament House Islamabad which will remain operational until the inaugural session of the National Assembly of Pakistan.

Gold rates up by Rs 750 per tola to Rs 215,200

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):The price of per tola 24 karat gold increased by Rs 750 and was sold at Rs 215,200 on Wednesday compared to its sale at Rs 214,450 on the last trading day.
The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also increased by Rs 644 to Rs 184,500 from Rs 183,856 whereas the prices of 10 gram 22 karat gold went up to Rs 169,124 from Rs 168,535, the All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.
The price of per tola and ten-gram silver remained constant at Rs 2,570 and Rs 2,203.36 respectively.
 The price of gold in the international market increased by $6 to $2,048, the Association reported.
