Kuwaiti Ambassador calls on CM Naqvi

LAHORE, Feb 21 (APP):The Ambassador of Kuwait Mr. Nassar Abdul Rehman Almutain met with Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi, here on Wednesday.
Matters pertaining to mutual interest, promotion of bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in various sectors were discussed during the meeting.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador felicitated the CM on being elected as Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and also congratulated him on the splendid launching of PSL-9.
Mohsin Naqvi while conversing with the Ambassador of Kuwait stated that fraternal relations exist between Pakistan and Kuwait for the last many decades, adding that time has arrived to transform this relationship into a productive economic assistance between Pakistan and Kuwait. There is a great demand of livestock in Kuwait and it is also a dire need to promote this bilateral relationship between the two brotherly countries on sustainable basis.
Mohsin Naqvi apprised that 6 Business Facilitation Centres have been established in Punjab in only 30 days. The required NOCs are being issued to the investors within 15 days at the Business Facilitation Centres. The Kuwaiti investors should benefit from these investment opportunities in Punjab and all possible assistance would be provided in this regard, he said. The enhancement in economic relationship is possible with the maximum exchange of trade delegations between the two countries, the CM maintained.
Ambassador of Kuwait Mr. Nassar Abdul Rehman Almutain remarked that extending cooperation in the field of livestock and other sectors would be further promoted with the Punjab government, saying that a great potential exists with regard to enhancing bilateral trade relationship between the two countries.

Pakistan’s Naseem, Awais win matches in Asian Men Snooker

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):Pakistan’s Muhammad Naseem Akhtar and Awais Ullah Munir win matches in the ACBS Asian Men Snooker Championship 2024 at Doha, Qatar.
In the Pre Quarter Matches, Muhammad Naseem Akhtar (Pak) beat Chau Hon Man (Hong Kong) 4-3 (124-11, 35-57, 18-64, 60-49, 100-0(86), 4-86, 95-04) while Awais Ullah Munir (Pak) beat Pankaj Advani (India) 4-2 (07-64, 87-06(60), 64-51, 04-74, 128-04(112), 58-46).
In matches played on Tuesday, Muhammad Naseem Akhtar (Pak) beat Farid Barati (Afg) 4-1 (71-44), 69-30, 35-55, 75-07(55), 74-23(54) while Awais Ullah Munir (Pak) bt Khaled Alastai (Palestine) 4-1 (67-06, 75-08, 54-61(61), 67-25(67), 72-0).
The quarterfinals and semifinals would be played on Thursday while the final on Friday.

SSGC starts work on Rs.5.1 billion Kathore-Surjani pipeline project

KARACHI, Feb 21 (APP):To improve the supply of natural gas to the western region, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) started development work on a 31-kilometer-long gas pipeline project on Wednesday.
The 24-inch dia gas pipeline will be laid from Sales Meter Station (SMS) Kathore to SMS Surjani with an estimated cost of Rs. 5.1 billion and the project is scheduled to be completed by June 2024, according to a statement issued here.
Managing Director SSGC, Imran Maniar, performed the groundbreaking of the project in a ceremony held here at the site of the Attock Cement Pvt Ltd (ACPL) main valve assembly.
The project was proposed to improve the operational efficiency of the SSGC distribution system and mitigate low-pressure problems in the existing 12-inch and 20-inch dia ACPL distribution lines while it will also help meet the rising demand of SITE Area and Hub town.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by DMD Operations Saeed Rizvi, ASGM Technical Services Ghulam Moeen Butt, ASGM Transmission Jamshed Nisar, DGM and In charge Projects and Construction Ghulam Ali Mahar and other Company executives, technicians and workers.

Commissioner chairs meeting regarding polio arrangements

HYDERABAD, Feb 21 (APP):The Divisional Commissioner Syed Khalid Hyder Shah has said that a better strategy should be prepared for making environmental sample negative in Hyderabad and Jamshoro and coverage for refusal cases in order to make Hyderabad Division polio free.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting with all Deputy Commissioners and DHOs for reviewing outcome of last polio campaign and arrangements made for upcoming polio campaign to begin from 26th February.
Commissoner asked all Deputy Commissioners to complete their arrangements so that 100 percent results could be achieved.
Commissioner directed Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro Zulfiqar Memon that more polio camps should be set up on the occasion of annual Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalanadr to be celebrated at Sehwan Sharif so that polio drops could be administered to devotees as well as children upto five years.
He directed all DCs to hold review meetings in their respective districts during polio drive and accomplish 100 percent results.
He further directed that different death cases in children due to measles had been reported so that a comprehensive strategy should be made to deal with it.
Commissioner directed all Deputy Commissioners to organize awareness programmes in Schools regarding polio disease so that polio campaign could be more effective.
On this occasion Focal person for divisional task force Dr. Jamshed Khanzda in his briefing said that in upcoming polio drive as many as 2382877 children upto five years will be administered anti-polio drops in 309 union councils of Hyderabad Division for which 573 EPI centers and 2107 outreach sites had been established.
He informed that additional polio teams had been established for Qalandar Lal Shahbaz Urs so that devotes as well as children could be vaccinated.
Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Tariq Qureshi, DHO Hyderabad Lala Jaffer and all DCs participated in the meeting through video link.

Chinese, Iranian Consul Generals call on CM Naqvi

LAHORE, Feb 21 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi held separate meetings with the Consul General of China Mr. Zhao Shiren and the Consul General of Iran Mehran Mowahid Far, here on Wednesday.
The Chinese and the Iranian Consul Generals felicitated CM Mohsin Naqvi on being elected as the Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Mohsin Naqvi extended an invitation to the Chinese and Iranian Consul Generals to witness a PSL match. Both of them accepted the invitation and thanked the CM. The Chinese and the Iranian Consul Generals lauded the performance of CM for extending exemplary services for the people of Punjab during the last one year. The Chinese Consul General acknowledged that the CM accomplished public welfare projects with an extraordinary speed in a highly short span of time, adding that his public services are highly appreciated at every level. The CM worked in a highly proactive manner and delivered to the optimum for the welfare of the people of Punjab. Mr. Zhao Shiren also expressed his good wishes for the CM.
Mohsin Naqvi thanked the Chinese Consul General on extending enormous assistance in order to cope up with the smog challenges and in other sectors. The CM remarked that China is a strategic partner of Pakistan, adding that China has stood with Pakistan in every time of trial and tribulation. The relationships with China have further deepened during the last one year. “The level of acknowledgment which has been accorded to me during my visit to China by the Communist Party of China will always be remembered,” the CM maintained.
The Iranian Consul General congratulated Mohsin Naqvi on making excellent arrangements for PSL-9. The Iranian Consul General stated that under the leadership of the CM and on the request of the Punjab government, the statue of the Poet of the East Allama Muhammad Iqbal has been installed in Mashhad. The Iranian Consul General paid tributes to the CM on rendering exemplary performance, adding that Mohsin Naqvi devoted day and night for the welfare of the people of Punjab. Mehran Mowahid Far acknowledged that the CM by undertaking practicable steps has created ease and comfort in the lives of the people of Punjab, adding that the services which he has rendered in a short period of time is worth appreciable.
The CM highlighted that Pakistan and Iran are closely tied in their historical and religious relations. Mohsin Naqvi thanked the Iranian Consul General with regard to fostering mutual relations between Pakistan and Iran during the last one year.
Provincial Ministers Amir Mir and Azfar Ali Nasir were also present.

PARC, GAIN imparts training on diet quality monitoring in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Wednesday conducted a comprehensive training session on use of Diet Quality Questionnaire (DQQ) for collecting data on diet quality.
The training was executed in collaboration with the research entities from PARC and the provincial governments i.e. Pakistan Bureau of statistics, provincial bureau of statistics and planning and development departments.
The training, held at the PARC premises, aimed to enhance understanding and capacity in monitoring diet quality across the country, a news release said.
Head of Policy & Advocacy at GAIN, Faiz Rasool said, “The training session was instrumental in equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to diet quality monitoring efforts in Pakistan”.
He mentioned the partnership aimed to embed this tool into other existing data tools for collecting and utilizing the data to inform public policies.
Talking on the occasion member social science division at PARC Dr. Ghulam Sadiq Afridi said, “We are grateful to GAIN for their partnership and support in advancing this critical aspect of public health in the food system.”
The session covered various crucial aspects, including the Government of Pakistan’s vision on scaling up diet quality data.
The participants gained insights into the importance of diet quality monitoring and national data in Pakistan, aligning with the government’s objectives.
An introduction to the Diet Quality Monitoring Framework was provided by Anna Herforth (from Harvard University) in the global context, emphasizing the significance of the Data Quality Questionnaire (DQQ) indicator in assessing dietary patterns.
Practical sessions on how to effectively utilize the DQQ for data collection and analysis were conducted, enabling participants to impart hands-on with the tool.
A highlight of the training was an activity where participants practiced using the DQQ, allowing them to familiarize themselves with its application and potential challenges. Additionally, participants were guided through the calculation of group results, facilitating a deeper understanding of the data collected.
The session culminated in a discussion on sustained diet quality monitoring in Pakistan, delving into the strengths, limitations, and opportunities associated with different survey vehicles for data collection.
This exchange provided valuable insights for future initiatives in this vital area.
As Pakistan continues its journey towards improving food security situation along with the critical aspect of diet quality nationwide, initiatives like this play a pivotal role in strengthening data-driven strategies for enhancing diet quality and overall well-being.

KARACHI, Feb 21 (APP):Karachi Kings’ left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi praised Peshawar Zalmi’s captain Babar Azam ahead of the two sides’ clash in the ongoing HBL PSL 9, however, he asserted that his team focuses on every player.
“The performance of previous seasons is now a thing of the past, even if you are a champion, you still have to start from zero,” said Tabraiz Shamsi while talking to the media ahead of Karachi Kings’ second match in the HBL PSL 9.
“We have a new management this season and the team environment is good. We are training hard and it will bore fruits in the next games.
Shamsi praised Babar Azam but also mentioned that Zalmi also have other good players and Karachi Kings are focusing on each one of them.
“Babar Azam is a special player who performs around the world at the highest stage, but he’s not the only batsman in the team.
“There’s not only a single player that we focus on. There are so many other good players in the team.
Shamsi also praised the quality of cricket in the PSL, saying, “It is a top-quality tournament. Pakistan always produces good fast bowlers and PSL is a good platform for young talented players to showcase their skills.”
Lastly, he expressed his excitement to play in front of the Lahore crowd in the upcoming match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi.
“I have played one match for South Africa in Lahore but it was during the COVID-19 days. I am looking forward to entertaining the crowd of Lahore,” Shamsi concluded.
