FIA Multan arrest proclaimed offender in visa fraud case

MULTAN, Feb 22 (APP):Federal Investigations Agency (FIA) Multan arrested a proclaimed offender in a visa fraud case here on Thursday.
According to officials, accused Muhammad Nawaz had allegedly received Rs 493,000 from a person in the name of providing him a visa for Dubai.
A team of FIA arrested the accused from Multan on a complaint after registering the case and further investigations were in progress.

DC Larkana chairs meeting to review Polio drive

LARKANA, Feb 22 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Larkana Dr. Sharjeel Noor Channa has directed the officials of the health department to make proper arrangements to make the polio campaign a success so that no child misses out on the polio vaccine.
He expressed these views today while presiding over a meeting in the committee room of the Commissioner’s office. The meeting was attended by DHO, PPHI, WHO and other concerned authorities.
On this occasion, the previous polio campaign was reviewed. However, the officials of the health department also gave a briefing to the deputy commissioner regarding the polio campaign.
On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that polio teams should be appointed at the UC level and committees should be established to monitor them. He said that the micro-plan should be strictly implemented so that no child misses out on polio vaccination. He said that the set target should be ensured in any case because polio is a dangerous disease.
He said that the Sindh government wants to take special care of the polio campaign. On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner gave instructions to the police administration to make proper security arrangements.
After that, the Deputy Commissioner inaugurated the Polio campaign by giving polio drops to children in the Commissioner’s office and a rally was also held, which was led by Deputy Commissioner Sharjeel Noor Chana.
Determined to succeed in every way, don’t stop drinking the drops of protection. He appealed to the parents of the children to fully cooperate with the polio teams so that no child misses out on polio vaccination during the polio campaign.

Tehsil administration clears Malam Jabba road snow, ensures traffic flow

SWAT, Feb 22 (APP): The Tehsil administration of Charbagh has kicked off clearing snow from the Malam Jabba road after the popular hill station received snowfall on Thursday.

On the instructions of Assistant Commissioner Charbagh, Muhammad Yaar Khan issued instructions to the operation staff to appoint an additional number of workers as soon as the snow season begins in Swat.

The operational staff worked to remove snow from the roads and paths during the snowfall and also maintained cleanliness as a good number of visitors arrived at the tourist destination.

Lauding the arrangements put in place by the Tehsil administration, the visitors said that the staff is busy removing the snow from roads despite the cold, and they haven’t seen garbage in the area.

Speaking with our APP Swat correspondent, Assistant Commissioner Charbagh, Muhammad Yaar Khan, said that we are fully prepared, and our teams are deployed in the spots of the tourist destination to ensure that motorists can easily move in and around Malam Jabba and that traffic flow remains normal.

Meanwhile, the district administration has advised tourists to get weather updates and traffic-related information prior to traveling to Swat’s tourist destinations.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22 (APP):Governor of Sindh Kamran Tessori on Thursday called on Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar wherein they discussed the overall political situation in the country.
Leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan Dr Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal also attended the meeting, a PM Office press release said.
The Sindh governor and MQM leaders lauded the prime minister for the steps taken by his government for the economic stability in the country.

ISSI’s  students’ art competition tribute courage, resilience of Palestinians in Gaza

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22 (APP):The Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East & Africa (CAMEA) at Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) Thursday organized an art competition for children aged 8-12 years, titled, “Expressing Solidarity with the Children of Gaza,” aimed to pay homage to the courage and resilience of the people of Gaza, particularly its children, who have borne the brunt of the conflict .
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Ambassador of the State of Palestine, Ahmed Rabaei, Counsellor at the South African High Commission, Brian Witbooi; Director General ISSI, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, and Director CAMEA, ISSI Amina Khan also addressed the event, a news release said.
In his remarks, the ambassador expressed his deep gratitude on behalf of the State of Palestine to the people of Pakistan for their profound support and solidarity in such testing times.
He expressed pleasure on seeing the participating students, who shared their heartfelt sentiments and contributed efforts in support of the Palestinian people in the wake of ongoing conflict.
He reiterated the concerns of UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, ‘who feared that there may be no life in Gaza’.
He added that seventy percent of the victims in Gaza were children and women, which meant more than 21,000 human lives.
Further, he said, more than 20,000 buildings in Gaza had been demolished by Israel’s occupation forces. People in the south of Gaza – more than 1.4 million – were waiting in the small congested area for hope. However, Israel was attacking Gaza continuously.
Speaking about Pakistan, Ambassador Rabaei stated that he felt at home, as the people in Pakistan spoke about Palestine through their hearts which showed that Palestinians were not alone in facing the challenges while they pursued their struggle for inalienable rights.
DG ISSI Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, in his remarks on the occasion, highlighted the human suffering in Gaza as a result of relentless Israeli military operations, and especially the devastating impact on Gaza’s children.
He noted that over 12,600 children had been killed, while those who survived were psychologically traumatized, displaced, homeless, and short of food and safe drinking water.
Thousands had lost body limbs and would be forced to live the lives of disability and dependence.
This was the worst part of the ‘collective punishment’ being imposed on the civilian population.
He particularly lauded the courage and resilience of the people of Gaza, who remained steadfast in the face of unspeakable atrocities and continued to fight for their freedom from illegal occupation. The ISSI was overwhelmed with the response, when it approached young Pakistani students to raise awareness about the plight of Gaza’s children and to express solidarity with them. They had composed powerful poetry and drawings and paintings – affirming their support and extending a message of hope.
Ambassador Sohail Mahmood lamented that the latest Security Council attempt to effect a ceasefire had been stymied by another veto. Noting South Africa’s approach to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for proceedings against Israel for violation of its obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention, he lauded the ICJ’s landmark preliminary ruling that called upon Israel to take all measures in its power to prevent genocidal acts against Palestinians. Ambassador Sohail Mahmood concluded by stressing that everyone should know that there can be no peace in the Middle East without justice for the Palestinians.
Amina Khan, in her remarks stated that the recent events in Gaza and the West Bank have witnessed an unprecedented level of brutality from the Israeli occupation forces, which have been highlighted by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, describing them as, “We are witnessing a killing of civilians that is unparalleled and unprecedented in any conflict – in modern history.” She further said that the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis has robbed the children of Palestine of their childhood and denied them basic rights that every child deserves. Unfortunately, this conflict has tragically given birth to a disturbing acronym used by aid workers ‘Wounded Child No Surviving Family’ (WCNSF) which reflects the sad reality of this conflict.
Brian Witbooi, in his remarks on the occasion, said that the atrocities are blatant and bold and for the entire world to see.
He explained that journalists have run out of adjectives to describe the onslaught and the horror that we see every day on our television screens, on our mobiles, on social media and the mainstream media.
 The atrocities are well documented and Israel and the West want to start the narrative from October 7, 2023 but we know that what we see today is a culmination of what started 75 years ago with the creation of the state of Israel.
The judges of the art competition were, Nader Al Turk, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Palestine, Brian Witbooi and Aqeel Ahmed Solangi, Associate Professor, Department of Painting and Sculpture, National College of Arts, Rawalpindi. The participating schools included Islamabad Grammar School and College (IGSC), SLS Montessori School and College, Pak-Turk Maarif International School and College Islamabad, Froebel’s International School  and HeadStart School  along with their teachers.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where students who won prizes were given trophies and certificates as a token of acknowledgement by Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman BoG, ISSI. Later, the participants saw the display of paintings and poetry, which was inaugurated by chief guest Ambassador Ahmed Rabaei.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22 (APP):Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar Thursday held a farewell meeting with Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Syed Mohsin Naqvi and discussed matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the chief minister lauded the prime minister for steps taken by the government for economic stability in the country, under his leadership.

President Alvi urges community action to combat thalassemia

LAHORE, Feb 22 (APP):President Dr. Arif Alvi on Thursday emphasised the necessity of community efforts in preventing thalassemia among children, advocating for mandatory testing before marriage.
He was addressing a prize distribution ceremony of Sundas Foundation, as a chief guest, held here at Governor’s House. Director Sundas Foundation Khalid Abbas Dar, President Yaseen Khan, renowned journalists Sohail Warraich, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami and Salman Ghani also attended the event.
In his address, President Alvi quoted the example of England regarding success in thalassemia control due to proper awareness, while Pakistan had to face shortage of blood donations for thalassemia children, adding that even with extensive campaigns, this shortage could not be overcome.
Alvi further said that Pakistan has 26.2 million children out of schools, while our neighbouring countries India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have accomplished almost 100 per cent enrollment rate. He said that Pakistan built 50,000 schools in Punjab since its inception, while the state needed equal number of more schools to educate such a large number of children. He said that Pakistan has more than 2.5 lakh mosques, and proposed that those could be used as educational centres to address the issue.
He said: “Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) gave status of community centres to mosques and Islam gave us golden principles for society; we all should get inspiration from Quran and Sunnah”.
China made progress and achieved prosperity by focusing on education and health of its population. He said Pakistan has the fifth biggest population in the world, which has immense potential for growth. The president stressed the best utilisation of this workforce.
Thanking the people working for thalassemia elimination and serving humanity, he said that they are our heroes and they would stand honoured before Almighty Allah; they should be given respect, and recognition of their services. Dr. Arif Alvi lauded the philanthropic individuals and organisations for their generous financial support towards the treatment of these otherwise expensive medical conditions.
President Sundas Foundation Yaseen Khan said that the foundation was a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to voluntary blood transfusion services and treatment of thalassemia, hemophilia, and other blood-related diseases for the last 26 years. The Sundas Foundation, through its 11 centres all-over Pakistan, is providing 250-300 blood bags everyday i.e. around 30,000 per annum. He emphasised the critical importance of continued support from the public, particularly during the holy month of Ramzan, urging individuals to come forward for blood donation and financial assistance for prevention and treatment of thallasemia.
The president distributed certificates of appreciation among individuals, organisations, and societies actively involved in free treatment and blood donation initiatives for thalassemia and hemophilia patients.
