Governor pays rich tribute to Nawab Sadiq for education contributions

BAHAWALPUR, Feb 18 (APP):Governor of Punjab and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Sadiq Public School, Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman, attended the 70th Founders Day (Platinum Jubilee) of Sadiq Public School here.
Muhammad Balighur Rehman was also the chief guest on the occasion.
In his address, he mentioned, “Sadiq Public School reflects the vision, dedication, and determination of Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi, who is a great humanitarian responsible for the establishment of this unparalleled institution for great educational purposes and contributed with resources, effort, steps, and words of cooperation.”
“This institution can take pride in its glorious traditions and remarkable past. Prominent personalities who have graduated from this institution have excelled in every field of life. Even today, I see many outstanding individuals in this ceremony who have acquired education from this great alma mater.”
“All this is due to the significant historical role of this school, which the nation expects will continue to produce individuals of high caliber and maintain the highest standards of moral, intellectual, and physical education that are the hallmark of Sadiq,” the governor said.
He said, “His connection with Sadiq Public School is longstanding. As the Chairman of the Board of Governors, it is a heavy responsibility for him to play a role in the betterment of this institution.”
“Sadiq has played a crucial role in bringing me to this position,”  he added.
The governor emphasized the importance of both curricular and extracurricular activities in his speech.
Additionally, Governor Punjab stated, “Today’s event, the speeches of the head boy and head girl of this great institution, have been extremely impressive.”
“On the occasion, he congratulated the students, staff, and especially the parents.
“I can confidently say that institutions like this, along with a few others in Pakistan, are crucial in producing leaders of high standards in all walks of life and will continue to do so,”  the governor further said.
Earlier, Governor Punjab laid the foundation stone for new academic blocks and a new boarding house, expressing hope that the process of developing the complete infrastructure of the school would soon reach completion.
The head boy, Saad Abdullah, and the head girl, Safiya Malik, delivered their speeches.
Governor Punjab also addressed the General Body Meeting of the Old Sadiqi Association. He also planted a tree on the lawn of the OSA office.

PFA imposes fine on ghee factory, four food outlets

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Feb 18 (APP):Punjab Food Department imposed a fine of Rs 245,000 on different production units for using poor-quality ingredients and ignoring cleanliness measures.
According to official sources, a ghee factory, situated in Fatehpur was fined Rs 100,000. The owner was found selling ghee without registration and the ghee was prepared and stored in poor-quality tanks, completely ignoring cleanliness.
The sample of the ghee was also sent to the laboratory.
Another owner of a school- canteen was fined Rs 50,000 in Alipur at Jhang Road whereas, Rs 50,000 fine was imposed on the administration of a hotel for using poor-quality ghee.
A pizza point and another food outlet at Taleery Street also underwent fines of amounts Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

Hot, dry weather likely to persist in Bwp

BAHAWALPUR, Feb 18 (APP): The local Met Office predicted hot and dry weather for the city for the next 24 hours.

Temperature is rising in Bahawalpur region, as the highest maximum temperature of 28 degrees centigrade was recorded here last Friday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 28 degrees Celsius and 13 degrees Celsius during the last 24 hours.

Dry weather has also been forecast for the rest of the region.

ECP notifies 36 KPK NA seat winners

ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has notified the winners for 36 National Assembly seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The ECP, in a notification issued here, has asked the returned candidates to affiliate with a political party of their choice within the next three days.

Among the declared victors are Sibghatullah from NA-4 Upper Dir, Gohar Ali Khan from NA-10 Buner, and Umar Ayub from NA-18 Haripur.

The notification affirmed Asad Qaiser’s success in NA-19 Swabi and Shandana Gulzar’s victory in NA-30 Peshawar.

Shehryar Afridi clinched victory in NA-35 Kohat, while Sher Afzal Marwat secured success in NA-41 Lakky Marwat.

Additionally, the notification underscored the victories of a member each from the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and MWM in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The province contributed 45 seats to the National Assembly, including 10 reserved for women.

Railways set to open Shahdadpur Railway Station platform

ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (APP):Pakistan Railways has almost completed the upgradation and rehabilitation work of the Shahdadpur Railway Station platform and set to open it for the passengers of the area very soon.
“The government has already allocated around Rs 2 million more funds for completing the renovation of the platform of Shahdadpur Railway Station, official sources in the Ministry told APP.
They said Shahdadpur Railway Station, operating with three platforms, is one of the important stations situated on the mainline where most of the mail and express trains have their stoppages.
The sources said the contractor had stopped the construction work due to non-payment of bills and funds but now the funds have been arranged for the remaining rehabilitation work.
They said the platform condition on the downside was dilapidated and therefore it was decided to carry out its repair under the head of improvement and welfare expenditure.
To a question, the official said Pakistan Railways was a big organization comprising around 63,000 employees and its network stretched across the country.
They said the employees are well-cared under the welfare activities like health facilities through a wide network of hospitals, dispensaries and child healthcare units.
Elaborating, the sources said the provision of government accommodation according to entitlement and priority list, staff benevolent funds, benefits and incentives were provided through the Prime Minister’s Family Assistance Package policy for families of deceased employees.
They said the other welfare activities included benefits and incentives provided through policy for disabled employees’ families, monthly grants to widows scale-wise, the establishment of primary and high schools, industrial schools to teach handicrafts, sports activities through the constitution of Pakistan and pick and drop facility for schools/offices.
The sources said the installation of water filtration plants, a special provision of five medical seats in Ripha Islamic Universities with a reduction of 50 percent in admission and tuition fees, loans on easy instalments, availability of all recreational facilities, payment for burial and ambulance charges, marriage grant, farewell grant, free passes and concession in railways fares.

PR collects Rs 74.8 mln from ticketless passengers

ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (APP):Pakistan Railways has collected an amount of Rs 74.8 million from ticket-less passengers in a crackdown during the three two months with the help of railway police and train staffers.
“Around 58,446 passengers found travelling without tickets in different trains and collected the said amount from them, which is deposited in the official bank account of the department,” sources in the Ministry told APP.
They said that it was not the first time that action was taken on a large scale against ticket-less passengers, adding that these types of crackdowns had taken place daily.
The sources said that ticketless travelling was illegal, and those who were caught without a ticket were charged a ticket price for the whole journey of the train besides the penalty. Those who do not pay are handed over to the railway police.
To a question, they said that Pakistan Railways Police claimed to have arrested a total of 3,923 accused due to their involvement in violations of rules and laws and also registered some 3,625 cases against them in eight Railways divisions over one year.
“Around 658 cases were registered in Peshawar Division, 577 in Rawalpindi, 1,044 in Lahore, 326 in Mughalpura workshops, 393 in Multan, 208 in Sukkur, 346 in Karachi, and 73 in Quetta Division,” they added.
They said the Railways Police Help Desks had been established at all the major railway stations across the country, and the performance of the Railways Police has been quite satisfactory during the last year.
Regarding the performance of the railway police, they said, “Police are performing duties efficiently despite the limited resources, and the performance of the railway police will be further improved to the optimum level during the next year.”

169 news bulletins broadcast through ICP Web TV

ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (APP):Under the special directives of Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the Islamabad Capital Police (ICP) broadcast 169 news bulletins through its Web TV, which was formally launched in August 2023.
An ICP public relations officer said that, since its inception, not only news bulletins but traffic-related awareness videos were also regularly released on web TV for the awareness of the citizens of Islamabad.
Moreover, 169 news bulletins have been aired on Web TV, while 30 road safety programs have also been aired to educate citizens about road safety, which plays an important role in educating citizens about the rules and regulations of road safety.
As Islamabad Capital Police is responsible for the protection of life and property of the citizens, it also provides opportunities to keep them fully aware of the regular situations and events of Islamabad Capital Police.
In order to provide awareness to the citizens about traffic rules and road safety, special teams are providing awareness to the public in different areas of the city.
Citizens are requested to dial Pucar-15″ or report via the “ICT-15 App” regarding any suspicious person or activity.

Pakistan’s earns $1,454 million from IT services’ export in 6 months

ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (APP):Pakistan earned US $1,454.881 million by providing different Information Technology (IT) services to various countries during the first six months of the current fiscal year 2023-24.
This shows a growth of 8.98 per cent as compared with the US $1,334.969 million earned through the provision of services during the corresponding months of the last fiscal year 2022-23, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.
During the months under review, the export of computer services grew by 10.32 per cent as it surged from US $1,064.579 million last year to US $1,174.481 million during July-December 2023-24.
Among the computer services, the exports of software consultancy services witnessed a nominal decrease of 180 per cent, from US $3.394 million to US $3.333 million this year while the export of hardware consultancy services surged by 3.401 per cent, from US $391.570 million to US $404.875 million.
The export of repair and maintenance services however decreased by 39.15 per cent from US $1.530 million to US $0.930 million whereas the export and imports of computer software services surged by 2.79 per cent, from $302.376 million to $310.807 million.
Meanwhile, the export of information services during the months under review dipped by 19.72 per cent from US $2.180 million to US $1.750 million.
Among the information services, the exports of information-related services increased by 3.64 per cent, from US $0.687 million to US $0.712 million whereas the exports of news agency services however decreased by 30.48 per cent, from US $1.493 million to US $1.038 million.
The export of telecommunication services increased by 3.89 per cent as these went down from US $268.0210 million to US $278.650 million, the data revealed.
Among the telecommunication services, the export of call centres services increased by 12.14 per cent during the months as its exports increased from US $107.006 million to US $119.994 million whereas the export of other telecommunication services witnessed a decrease of 1.58 per cent, from US $161.204 million to US $158.656 million during this year, the PBS data revealed.

CTP advises caution for Murree snow visitors to enjoy snowfall

RAWALPINDI, Feb 18 (APP):The City Traffic Police (CTP) in Rawalpindi has issued a traffic advisory for tourists coming to Murree to enjoy snowfall.
According to the CTP news release issued here, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimur Khan appealed to all road users to exercise extreme caution and follow the instructions for their own safety.
“Drivers are advised to keep their speed as low as possible and maintain a safe distance. Do not overtake other vehicles unless absolutely necessary.”
He also exhorted the masses to check the weather forecast and road conditions before setting off on their journey.
“Plan your journey accordingly, and if conditions worsen, consider unnecessary travel delays. Follow traffic signals, road signs, and lines strictly. These become even more important in the short term, helping to maintain order on the roads,” he said.
The City Traffic Police in Rawalpindi emphasized the importance of responsible driving during severe weather conditions.
“By following these guidelines, drivers can contribute to creating a safer road environment for themselves and others. PR putting maximum efforts retrieve 13,972 acres land

ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (APP):Pakistan Railways has accelerated the efforts to retrieve the major portion of around 13,972 acres of land worth billions of rupees found under the illegal occupation of private individuals and different government departments across the country.
“Around 5,809 acres were occupied in Punjab, 1,181 acres are under encroachment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5,948 acres in Sindh and 1,034 acres land occupied in Balochistan,” an official in the Ministry told APP.
He said the category of land under illegal occupations included commercial, residential, agricultural and various persons or departments.
Giving details of the land, the official said that around 769 acres were commercial in all the provinces, 3,309 residential, 5,512 acres agricultural and 4382 were under encroachment of various persons or departments.
The official said the department had also decided to accelerate its ongoing anti-encroachment operation against land grabbers across the country to recoup its land from different individuals, groups, and even business organizations which were using it for residential, commercial and agriculture purposes for decades.
“The joint procedure orders have been issued to all Divisional Superintendents of Pakistan Railways to retrieve the railway land from encroachers,” the official added.
Accordingly, he said the anti-encroachment operations for retrieval of encroached Railway land all over the Railway network are being initiated by the concerned divisions and notices are issued to encroachers under the Possession Ordinance 1965 for vacation of Railway land/structure within 14 days.
The official said that Pakistan Railway Police, District Administration and law enforcement agencies are informed of necessary assistance in anti-encroachment operations.
To further control and restrict new encroachments, he said the responsibilities defined for Railway officers within Railway Station premises, Station Master concerned, within/around the colony premises, inspector of works and Railway Police.
“The anti-encroachment schedules, on a three-month basis, are being prepared and sent to all concerned in line with the joint procedure order,” he said adding that the operation will be launched with the assistance of Railway Police and district administrations of the relevant provincial governments.
The official said PR owned 167,690 acres of land across the country, of which 90,326-acre was in Punjab, 39,428-acre in Sindh, 28,228-acre in Balochistan, and 9,708-acre in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
