Nine terrorists killed in two separate operations conducted in KP
RAWALPINDI, Feb 17 (APP): Nine terrorists were gunned down by the security forces during two separate intelligence-based operations conducted on February 16 and 17 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release on Saturday, two terrorists including a high-value target identified as Rehmat Ullah alias Badar Mansur and Amjad alias Babri were killed in an intelligence-based operation conducted by the security forces in Tank District.
In another operation conducted in the South Waziristan District, after an intense fire exchange, seven terrorists were sent to hell.
Weapons, ammunition, and explosives were also recovered from the killed terrorists, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area against the security forces as well as extortion and target killing of innocent civilians.
However, during the operation, a brave son of the soil, Sepoy Shahzeb Aslam (age 29 years; resident of district Haripur), having fought gallantly, embraced Shahadat (martyrdom).
“Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR said.
PSL-9: Rizwan vows to give tough time to opponent teams
MULTAN, Feb 17 (APP):Multan Sultan Captain Muhammad Rizwan vowed to give tough times to opponent teams in PLS-9 by pursuing different strategies.
While holding a pre-match press conference here, Captain Multan Sultan Rizwan hinted that he was well aware of the weaknesses and strengths of Karachi King.
He however maintained that it was important for the top four players to perform in order to secure victory.
To a query, he stated that the players of Multan Sultan who joined other teams, made their decision by themselves.
Responding to a question, Rizwan stated that he always won love and respect from the people of Multan. About ground conditions, he stated the ground conditions were not only conducive for Multan Sultan but other teams also. “Spectators have pinned high hopes that is why I feel some pressure”, he remarked in response to a question. We will follow all technicalities on the ground to give our best, he observed.
Rizwan also extolled Najam Sethi for performing an excellent role in the promotion of PSL. Rizwan also hoped that bowler Faisal Akram would be a good asset.

Marriyum demands probe into Pindi commissioner allegations
LAHORE, Feb 17 (APP):Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Marriyum Aurangzeb Saturday demanded complete investigation into allegations levelled by Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha regarding rigging in general election in Rawalpindi division.
Addressing a press conference at PML-N’s secretariat in Model Town, she said that it should be probed that with whom Rawalpindi Commissioner was in contact for the last eight days, his meetings, phone calls, verification of accounts and entire activities should be investigated in this regard.
She said, “One cannot get off Scot-free after levelling baseless allegations without any evidence.”
The PML-N leader said that certain elements were in habit of levelling baseless allegations and creating confusion. She said, “Commissioner Rawalpindi is discrediting elections and levelling baseless allegations without any proof.”
If rigging was being conducted in front of Rawalpindi Commissioner, then why he didn’t handed over the culprits to the police, she questioned.
She said that the country was going through critical phase and it could not afford any irresponsible behaviour.
She further said that any grievances related to the results of elections should be taken to appropriate forum.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Rawalpindi commissioner should be put on exit control list immediately besides taking all his phone records into custody.
PML-N leaders Azma Bukhari and Attaullah Tarar were also present.
LCCI demands crackdown on beggars at traffic signals
LAHORE, Feb 17 (APP):The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Saturday expressed deep concern over a surge in the number of beggars at traffic signals and urged the authorities concerned to accelerate crackdown on professional beggars.
LCCI President Kashif Anwar also appreciated Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ammara Athar for taking a swift action on the LCCI letter, requesting empowerment of traffic wardens to take action against beggars on traffic signals. He said that the beggar mafia was exploiting citizens and looting them financially by any possible means. He said that the number of beggars is on the rise with every passing day, adding that hordes of beggars were a common sight at various places such as traffic signals, etc. need to be controlled on priority basis.
The LCCI president said that the department concerned should make sure that there were proper laws in practice to curb the beggar mafia. He said beggars could easily be resettled and sent to any rehabilitation centres. He hoped that all the authorities concerned would take a strict action against the beggar mafia.
LESCO detects 418 power pilferers in 24 hours
LAHORE, Feb 17 (APP):The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has detected a total of 418 connections from where the customers were pilfering electricity in all its circles of five districts — Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara — on the 158th day of anti-power theft campaign.
The LESCO spokesman told the media here Saturday that the company had also submitted FIR applications against electricity thieves, out of which 155 FIRs have been registered in respective police stations. Grand anti-power theft operations against electricity thieves are being conducted on the directives of the Federal Power Division and the LESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Shahid Haider is supervising these operations. The LESCO chief vowed that the operations would continue without discrimination until the complete end of electricity theft. The electricity pilferers as well as the LESCO officers and employees who facilitate them are also being brought to justice.
On the 158th consecutive day of the anti-power theft campaign, the spokesman added, large commercial consumers were also found involved in electricity theft and all of them were also disconnected and charged with detection units. Among the seized connections 08 were commercial, 02 agricultural, 01 industrial and 407 domestic, and all these connections were disconnected and charged with a total of 305,202 units as detection bill amounting to Rs 11.434 million.
Apprising the media about some major power pilferers, he explained that LESCO charged Rs 825,455 detection bill to an electricity pilferer in Manawan area; Rs 223,000 detection bills to another power pilferer in Mandi Usman Wala area, Rs 200,000 fine in the form of detection bills to customer stealing electricity in area of Green Town; and Rs 150,000 detection bill to a power thieve in Garhi Shahu.
During the 158 days of grand anti-theft campaign, the spokesman mentioned, the LESCO detected pilferage on 54,511 power connections and 50,282 FIRs have been registered against electricity thieves in the relevant police stations, while 17,577 accused have so far been arrested by the police. The LESCO has so far charged a total of 74,056,288 detection units worth Rs 2,842,969,047 to all the power pilferers.
188 kite seller held in grand operation
RAWALPINDI, Feb 17 (APP):Police arrested 188 kite seller and recovered thousands of kites, strings, liquor, weapons, and sound systems from their possession within two days.
During this year 356 kite sellers, and kite flyer were arrested and 48,000 kites and 800 strings were confiscated.
In Potohar Town, Police have arrested 147 kite sellers and recovered more than 5300 kites, 200 strings, 326 bottles of liquor, 02 pistols, and sound system from their custody.
In Rawal Town, police held 18 kite sellers and confiscated 438 kites and more than 15 strings from their possession.
Similarly, Saddar Division Police arrested 23 kite sellers, and kite flyer and recovered 630 kites and 18 strings from their possession.
CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani said an effective and integrated strategy was evolved to prevent kite flying and aerial firing. The monitoring was done from the roofs of high buildings at different places in the city to trace the kite flyers.
The modern techniques have also been used in different areas for surveillance against kite flying, he concluded. Strict action will be continued against the elements involved in a dangerous game, he added.
10 nabbed for carrying illegal arms
RAWALPINDI, Feb 17 (APP):Police have arrested 10 illegal armholders, and drug dealers and recovered arms, ammunition from their possession during a crackdown here on Saturday.
According to a police spokesman, Rawat Police held Akram and recovered 12 bore rifle from his possession.
Similarly, Wah Cantt police nabbed Asad, Haq Nawaz, and Moin besides recovering 03 pistols of 30 bore from their custody.
While, Civil Lines Police recovered 01 pistol of 30 bore from Ihtesham and 01 pistol of 30 bore from Abdul Rehman.
Following the operation, Sadiqabad police recovered 01 pistol 30 bore from Shehzad. Gujjar Khan police recovered 01 pistol 30-bore from Khabib. Kahuta police recovered 20 liters of liquor from Jahanzeb. Saddar Wah police recovered 510 grams of charas from Hanif.
Police have registered separate cases against the accused and further investigation was in progress.
Divisional SPs appreciated the performance of police teams and said that strict action against those possessing illegal weapons are being accelerated.
