Annual sports, family festival at Punjab University

LAHORE, Feb 17 (APP):The Punjab University Officers Welfare Association (PUOWA) organised annual sports and family festival at Hailey College of Commerce ground, here on Saturday.
University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Principal HCC Prof Dr Hafiz Zafar Ahmed, Registrar Dr Ahmad Islam, President PUOWA Dr Toqeer Ali, General Secretary Rana Muzaffar Ali and other administrative officers were present. Cricket, tug-of-war and athletics competitions were held between the officers at the event.
The teams of Registrar Tiger, Old Campus Thunder, Controller Badshah and IT Eagle participated in the cricket competitions. In the final of the cricket match, the IT Eagle won the competition by defeating Controller Badshah. In his address, the vice chancellor said sports was essential for physical health. He said participation in such activities increases the ability to work.
PUOWA President Dr Touqeer Ali said that the university officers work hard day and night while the sports festival gives them an opportunity to have fun. He thanked the contributors for organising the festival. Officers’ families and children also participated in the festival. Food and drink stalls were also set up.
Later, Prof Dr Hafiz Zafar Ahmed distributed prizes among the players.

CCPO reviews PSL security arrangements

LAHORE, Feb 17 (APP):Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana Saturday chaired a meeting at his office to review security arrangements for peaceful conduct of matches of Pakistan Super League-9 (PSL-9).
It was informed in the meeting that nine matches under the PSL-9 would be played in the provincial capital. More than 7,000 policemen have been deputed for security of the matches. The CCPO said Lahore police would ensure comprehensive security for the matches. Lahore police are providing foolproof security to national and international players as well as enthusiasts, he added.
The CCPO ordered continuous coordination with the line departments and implementation of the security plans for cricket stadiums, accommodation of players, and routes, ensuring thorough checking of every individual entering the stadium and women spectators to be checked by lady police. He ordered for effective measures to maintain traffic flow during the PSL matches and ordered prompt action against fake certificates, electricity theft, and pending investigations, as well as a crackdown on proclaimed offenders (POs) and other culprits.
The meeting was attended by DIG (Operations) Ali Nasir Rizvi, DIG (Investigations) Imran Kishwar, SSP (Operations) Syed Ali Raza, SSP (Admin) Atif Nazir, SSP (Investigations) Anoosh Masood Ch., SSP Security and Divisional SPs.

CM condoles loss of lives in road accident

LAHORE, Feb 17 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed his deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of six members of a family in a traffic accident near Muridke.
In his message, he expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condolences with the heirs of the deceased. He directed the administration to provide the best treatment facilities to the injured, saying that a legal action should be taken against the driver responsible for the accident.

All resources to be utilized for transparent distribution of Zakat: Haji Ashraf Abbasi

HYDERABAD, Feb 17 (APP):Patron of Bhai Khan Welfare Association, Haji Ashraf Abbasi has said that all available resources would be utilized for fair and transparent distribution of zakat to destitute people.
These remarks were made during a meeting held regarding the Ramzan Relief package on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion Abbasi emphasized that the organization needs to maintain its contact with philanthropists to maximize the number of destitute people who could get the benefit from zakat.  Addressing the meeting, the founder of the association Haji Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi said that effective arrangements should be made to deliver ration and poor people should be facilitated at their doorsteps.
The meeting was attended by the founder, Haji Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi and Haji Muhammad Yasin Arain General Secretary, Senior vice president Aftab Ahmed Khan, Vice President Shahid Rajput, Muhammad Ismail Shaikh, and other office bearers.

CM inspects remodeling of Babu Sabu Toll Plaza

LAHORE, Feb 17 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Babu Sabu Toll Plaza and inspected its remodeling project.
The CM directed to make the toll plaza spacious and reviewed progress being made about the ongoing construction activities on both sides, said a handout issued here on Saturday.
He directed to make the toll plaza spacious along with accelerating the pace of work on the remodeling project. He underscored to utilise all possible resources for an early completion of the project, saying that labour force should be increased at night.
Mohsin Naqvi maintained that the long overdue problem of traffic bottlenecks would be resolved on a permanent basis by making the Babu Sabu Toll Plaza spacious along with undertaking its remodelling. Citizens face numerous transportation problems with the traffic getting stuck at the Babu Sabu Toll Plaza. We will make our utmost effort to complete this project at the earliest, he said.
The Commissioner/DG LDA gave a briefing about the progress being made on the project. Provincial Ministers Amir Mir,  Azfar Ali Nasir,  Bilal Afzal,  Chairman P&D Board,  Secretary Housing,  Commissioner Lahore,  CCPO,  Deputy Commissioner,  Chief Engineer LDA and officials concerned were present.
