PSDP 2023-24: Govt releases Rs 507.979 bln funds in seven months

ISLAMABAD, Feb 13 (APP): The federal government has authorized the utilization of development funds amounting to Rs 507.979 billion, out of a total allocation of Rs 940 billion, for various ongoing and new social sector uplift projects of the federal ministries and divisions during the first seven months (July-January) of fiscal year 2023-24 under its Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

Out of the total authorized/disbursed amount, the total amount spent so far on the development projects during the corresponding period stood at Rs 190.443 billion, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives.

According to the disbursement mechanism of the Planning Division, the development funds allocated in the federal budget are released at the rate of 20% in the first quarter (July-September), followed by 30% each in the second and third quarters, and the remaining 20% in the last quarter (April-June) of a fiscal year.

The detail showed that Rs 127.066 billion out of a total allocated amount of Rs 211.777 billion had been disbursed to corporations including National Highway Authority (NHA), National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) and Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO).

For the Aviation Division, funds amounting to Rs 3.270 billion have been disbursed and Rs 668.86 million for the Board of Investment.

Similarly, the government authorized Rs 61.312 billion to the Cabinet Division, Rs 2.430 billion to the Ministry of Climate Change, Rs 660 million to the Commerce Division, Rs 126 million to the Ministry of Communications (other than NHA), Rs 1.920 billion to the Defence Division, Rs 960 million to the Defence Production Division, Rs 504 million for the Establishment Division, Rs 5.100 billion to the Federal Education & Professional Training Division, Rs1.932 billion to the Finance Division, Rs 86.347 billion to Provinces and Special Areas, Rs 35.820 billion to the Higher Education Commission, Rs 21.730 billion to the Housing and Works Division, Rs 488.40 million to the Human Rights Division,
Rs 1.800 billion to the Industries and Production Division, Rs 1.200 billion to the Information an Broadcasting Division,
Rs 3.600 billion to the Information Technology and Telecom Division, Rs 1.140 billion to Inter Provincial Coordination Division, Rs 5.970 billion to the Interior Division, Rs 480 million to the Law and Justice Division, Rs 1,705 million to the Maritime Affairs Division, Rs 90 million to the Narcotics Division, Rs 5.310 billion to the National Food Security and Research Division, Rs 6.452 billion to the National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Division, Rs 324 million to the National Heritage and Culture Division, Rs 90 million to the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Rs 900 million to Petroleum Division, Rs 7.345 billion to the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Division, Rs 300 million to the Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division, Rs 19.812 billion to the Railway Division, Rs 480 million to the Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Division, Rs 1.920 billion to the Revenue Division, Rs 4.800 billion to the Science & Technological Research, Rs 578.53 to the States and Frontier Regions Division and Rs 66.037 billion to the Water Resources Division.

Two thieves arrested, stolen items recovered

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Feb 13 (APP):The district police have traced a theft case and arrested two accused thieves recovering stolen solar panels from them here in the limits of Saddar Police Station on Tuesday.
According to the spokesperson, a team of Saddar police station led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Saddar Circle Muhammad Saleem Baloch along with Station House Officer (SHO) Malik Sajid traced a theft case and arrested two accused thieves namely Qayyum son of Nazu and Mushtaq son of Allah Ditta.
The police also recovered 28 Solar panels which were stolen six days before. Further investigations from the arrested accused were underway.

Radio Pakistan Hyderabad marks World Radio Day

HYDERABAD, Feb 13 (APP):The Radio Pakistan celebrated World Radio Day on Tuesday, February 13, various programs were organized in Hyderabad on this occasion.
The main event in Hyderabad was held at Radio Pakistan, where Saeed Ahmed Sheikh, the Director-General of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), cut a cake at the Radio Pakistan Hyderabad’s studio.
He reiterated the commitment that Radio Pakistan would remain at the forefront of providing entertainment and information to the people of the country.
He said that the modern media was facing huge challenges but despite this, Radio Pakistan has proved itself and maintained its effectiveness through decades of hard work and service.
He stated that it was a great national broadcasting institution with the aim of providing education, entertainment and information to the people. He appreciated the dedication of all Radio Pakistan employees in fulfilling their responsibilities effectively.
Later, a tree was also planted in the premises of Radio Pakistan Hyderabad building.

Mansehra police arrests three-member car lifting gang

MANSEHRA, Feb 13 (APP): The Mansehra police on Tuesday busted a three-member inter-district car lifting gang and recovered a Suzuki Carry along with other items worth millions of rupees.

Addressing a press conference, Station House Officer (SHO) Amir Khan of Saddar Police Station informed media that the three accused involved in the car lifting operation had booked a Suzuki Carry with registration number 5602 from Abbottabad to Mansehra. Upon reaching their destination, two car lifters, Khursheed, son of Abdul Hameed, and Ishfaq, son of Khan Bahadur, both residents of Chamhatti Abbottabad, overpowered the driver and abandoned him in a nearby forest.

Under the supervision of visional Police Officer (DPO) Mansehra, Zahoor Babar Afridi, the Mansehra police, and the Anti Car Lifting Cell, employing modern scientific technology, successfully traced the inter-district car lifting gang and apprehended two of the accused.
Subsequently, based on information provided by the arrested individuals, the police also detained the third suspect, Waheed, son of Saeed who was resident of Lassan Nawab in Mansehra.
During the operation, the police managed to recover stolen vehicles along with other stolen items.

Birth anniversary of legendary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz observed

ISLAMABAD, Feb 13 (APP):The 113th birth anniversary of legendary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz was observed on Tuesday.
According to Radio Pakistan, he was born on this day in Sialkot in 1911. His collections of work include Naqsh-e-faryadi, Dast-e-Saba, Zindaan Naama and Sham-e-Sheher-e-Yaaran.
Faiz Ahmed Faiz was awarded Pakistan`s highest civil award Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 1990 in recognition of his services for literature.
The legendary poet also received many awards, including, Nigar, Lenin Peace Prize, Peace Prize of Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission and Avicenna Prize.

Kohat Food Department cracks down on illegal food vendors

KOHAT, Feb 13 (APP):The Assistant Food Controller on Tuesday, conducted a raid on various restaurants, bakeries, ovens, and grocery shops in Kohat Bazaar to ensure the provision of good quality food to the public.

According to details issued by the office of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Assistant Food Controller Gulab Gul visited the market and inspected various restaurants, bakers, ovens, vegetables and fruits, and grocery shops on the directions of DC Dr Azmatullah Wazir.

The operation was carried out to ensure standards of food according to the health standards.

During the raid, several vendors were found selling expired and unhygienic food.

The vendors were fined and food was confiscated. In addition, the Assistant Food Controller issued a warning to all vendors in Kohat Bazaar to sell food that meets the health standards.

He further said that the Food Department will continue to crack down on illegal food vendors to ensure that the people of Kohat have access to safe and healthy food
