PTA escalates efforts to combat illegal SIM activation

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP):Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office Sukhar, in close collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle Wednesday conducted a successful raid against a franchise involved in the illicit activation of SIMs at Ratodero, district Larkana.
During the raid, 25 Active SIMs were discovered. Furthermore, the Franchise owner and one other Kiosk person were also taken into custody by the FIA team, said a news release issued here.
The recent raid is part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to prevent the circumvention of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS).
This steadfast dedication underscores the Authority’s resolve to combat the illicit issuance of SIM cards.

SECP continues crack down against illegal personal loan apps

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP):The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) is constantly monitoring social media and websites for illegal personal loan Apps (illegal apps) in order to safeguard the public from illicit loan sharks.
Eight further illicit apps had been identified by SECP and these apps were being distributed to the public as Android Package Kit (APK) files via various APK websites, emails, and social media, said a press release issued here.
The SECP has already initiated actions against the illegal apps in coordination with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The commission has so far blocked 132 illegal apps in active collaboration with Google, Apple, FIA and PTA.
The coordinated efforts made by SECP, Google, FIA and PTA have forced operators of illegal apps to divert their activities to APK websites, social media, etc.
 The illegal apps pose significant risks to user’s safety including misuse of personal information/sensitive financial data, fraud, blackmailing/harassment etc.
The SECP advised general public not to download illegal apps from any website or links shared through any other source like email or social media.
An updated list of Illegal Apps, as identified by SECP and reported to respective app stores, PTA and FIA, is placed on the SECP website for the information of the public.
The General Public is advised to only download SECP approved personal loan apps that are only available on the official app stores of Google and Apple.
The list of SECP approved personal loan apps is also available on its Website for the convenience of the general public.

Education Committee acknowledges support of members, officials

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP): Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, Senator Irfan Siddiqui in a final meeting of the committee before dissolution held Wednesday acknowledged the unwavering support of both committee members and officials from the education ministry and HEC over the past three years.

The chair conveyed to committee members that this marks the final meeting of the standing committee before its dissolution.

Expressing gratitude, the committee members commended the chair for ensuring the smooth functioning of the standing committee proceedings.

The committee addressed the agenda item related to a starred question posed by Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi during the Senate Session on 5th January 2024.

The question inquired about government-established institutes for teacher training.

The Caretaker Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training informed the committee about two such institutions in Islamabad.

Senator Tangi urged international training for teachers to expose them to modern educational practices.

The chair instructed the education ministry to devise plans for teacher training encompassing dress code, moral values, and teaching acumen.

A point of public importance concerning the absence of a service structure for university teachers was discussed.
The HEC Chairman reported on the special committee’s progress, and the chair directed the HEC to submit an interim report by Friday.

The committee also discussed a starred question from Senator Mushtaq Ahmed regarding the number of students studying “A” and “O” levels under the Cambridge system in Pakistan.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmed expressed concerns about the lack of information, citing a message received from the UK embassy in which the sought information was being termed as “Business Secret.

The chair emphasized the need for control and directed ministry officials to coordinate with the foreign ministry for obtaining this vital information.

The committee meeting was attended by Senators Prof. Dr. Mehr Taj Roghani, Fawzia Arshad, Engr Rukhsana Zuberi, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Falak Naz, Naseebullah Bazai, and Bahramand Khan Tangi, along with the caretaker Ministry for Federal Education and Professional Training, Special Secretary Education, and Chairman HEC.

Anti-dengue measures reviewed

FAISALABAD, Feb 14 (APP):A meeting of the District Emergency Response Committee for Anti-Dengue was held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shahab Aslam, here on Wednesday.
During the meeting, implementation of preventive and protective measures, taken by the relevant departments against dengue was reviewed.
The ADC ordered conduct of surveys of places repeatedly where dengue larvae could grow including tyre shops, graveyards, nurseries, etc. He said that the anti-dengue activities of all departments should be clearly visible. The relevant departments should ensure their attendance in the Tehsil Emergency Response Committee meetings, he added.
He said that prevention of dengue was not possible without cooperation of citizens. Therefore, awareness programs should be continued to make them aware of implementation of preventive measures for safety from dengue mosquitoes.
Earlier, Chief Executive Officer Health Dr. Asfand Yar briefed the meeting about the preventive measures.

Commissioner orders to prepare a comprehensive plan for Ramzan Package

SUKKUR , Feb 14 (APP): Divisional Commissioner Sukkur, Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi on Wednesday directed officers concerned to prepare a comprehensive plan for Ramzan Package to offer relief to the masses during the holy month.
Presiding over a meeting to review the performance of price control magistrates here, the divisional commissioner said that the provincial government has decided to officer maximum relief to masses in the holy month of Ramzan through providing quality commodities on subsidized rates. He said that the deputy commissioners of the division have notified several critical Bazaars.
He directed price control magistrates to improve performance and ensure their presence in the field for proper check and balance of commodities.

Ensuring the children’s rights is imperative: Khalid Iqbal

ABBOTTABAD, Feb 14 (APP):Deputy Commissioner and Chairman Child Protection Committee Abbottabad Khalid Iqbal Wednesday has stated that it is essential to ensure the rights and protection of our children.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of the district Child Protection Committee held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The DC emphasized that it is our collective responsibility to work for the children’s rights and protection.
Chief Protection Officer Ijaz Muhammad briefed the participants of the meeting on child protection laws, child harassment,  mental and sexual harassment, establishment of the Child Protection Unit, district child committee, and the working mechanism of members.
Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad said that if foreign organizations like UNICEF and WHO are working so hard for the rights and protection of our children, then we also need to work together to fulfill our role according to child protection laws.
He said that awareness in society is necessary for the protection of children’s rights and prevention of harassment. All individuals connected to every walk of life need to be involved.
Khalid Iqball directed the Education Department and Labor Department to collect data of out-of-school children. He further stated that he assures the members of the district child protection unit and committee that he will fully support them in resolving their issues.
