Minister directs HEC, FDE to accelerate policy formulation process

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP):Caretaker Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Madad Ali Sindhi Wednesday directed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to accelerate formulation of policy and execution of ongoing projects.
He made these directions while chairing a meeting held here which was also attended by DG FDE and senior representatives from HEC in addition with senior officials from the ministry.
The minister was briefed by HEC representatives about the consideration of the Private Members Bill “The Smart Institute of Science and Technolog (Amendment) Bill 2023”.
 HEC had been deliberating on developing a service structure and promotion policy for the university’s teachers, they added.
The minister was told about imparting training to the teachers of FDE.
Similarly, Madad Ali was briefed about the number of students studying in “A” and “O” levels under the Cambridge system in Islamabad.

KKKUK starts MPhil program

PESHAWAR, Feb 14 (APP): The Department of Communication and Media Studies (CMS) Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak has announced the enrollment of its first batch of scholars into the MPhil program.
Addressing the scholars during the orientation, the Head of Department, Dr. Muhammad Anwar Marwat emphasized the importance of academic excellence and urged the scholars to strive for high standards in their research endeavours.
He articulated the department’s commitment to promoting a culture of academic inquiry and expected that MPhil level students will contribute significantly to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
a senior faculty member of the CMS department Wajahat Karim, shared valuable insights with the scholars regarding the demands of higher-level studies. He underscored the necessity of dedication and willpower and stressed that the department is dedicated to providing intellectual insights into mass media research.
During the orientation session, Dr. Abdur Rauf highlighted the significance of adhering to the academic calendar, particularly in the dominion of research and development.
Lecturers at the Department of CMS, Muhammad Anwar Khan and Basar Ali shed light on the department’s commitment to inculcating practical skills in the course contents. They underlined the relevance of real-world application of knowledge acquired during the MPhil program.
Expressing their gratitude, the MPhil scholars lauded the efforts of the department in making the MPhil course accessible to them.

Police arrest 7 suspects in operation against land mafia

RAWALPINDI, Feb 14 (APP):Police arrested 07 suspects involved in occupying the land and hurling threats in the jurisdiction of Saddar Barooni police station here on Wednesday.
Police have also recovered a Kalashnikov and 02 pistols from the suspects.
According to the police spokesman, the detained accused were identified as Samiullah, Lal Badshah, Amirullah, Mujibullah, Abdul Hameed, Adnan, and Khalid.
The accused were involved in occupying the land three weeks ago and also conducted aerial firing in the area.
SP Saddar Muhammad Nabil Khokhar commended the police team and said that the accused would be challaned to the court for punishment.
The protection of citizens’ lives and properties is the top priority of the police, he concluded.

Free, fair, transparent elections held in Balochistan: Jamali

QUETTA, Feb 14 (APP):Balochistan Caretaker Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs Mir Zubair Jamali on Wednesday said the caretaker government had left no stone unturned for conducting fair, free, and peaceful elections in the province.
He expressed these views during his meeting with IG Police Abdul Khaliq Sheikh held here at the IG office. The issue of general elections in the province was discussed in detail.
“The Balochistan government took the best and boldest measures for the protection of the people”, the minister said.
Jamali while commenting on the rigging allegations said, “We do not belong to any political party nor have any political objective”. He said the caretaker government remained neutral during the entire polling process.
Lauding the efforts made by the security forces, minister said law enforcement agencies including the police forces performed their duties diligently.

ECP issues notifications of five dozen assembly members

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Wednesday issued notifications of around five dozen members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, including former federal ministers Ijaz-ul-Haq, Sheikh Aftab, and others.

Former federal minister Ijaz ul Haq, a candidate of  Pakistan Muslim League (Zia-ul-Haq Shaheed) was notified as member of the National Assembly from NA-163, Bahawalnagar-IV, by securing 84,343 votes.

Sheikh Aftab Ahmed was declared as winner from NA-49, Attock-I with 120,158 votes and Malik Sohail Khan from NA-50, Attock-II with 118,288 votes.

MoU signed for Machike-Thallian-Tarujabba White Oil Pipeline

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP): In a landmark achievement, the signing ceremony of the MoU between the Stakeholders on Consortium Formation (SCF) for the Machike-Thallian-Tarujabba White Oil Pipeline Project was held here on Wednesday.

The ceremony was witnessed by Minister for Power and Petroleum Muhammad Ali, Secretary (Petroleum Division) Momin Agha, and Secretary SIFC Jameel Qureshi, said a news release.

The heads of consortium entities i.e. MD Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Syed Muhammad Taha, DG Frontier Works Organization (FWO) Major General Abdul Sami, MD Interstate Gas Systems Pvt. Ltd (ISGS) Nadeem Bajwa signed the historical document.

The pipeline project is a testament to the commitment of the Petroleum Division and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

The Machike-Thallian-Taru Jabba White Oil Pipeline (MTT-WOP) aims to complement the oil pipeline backbone from Karachi to Peshawar apart from achieving the energy-efficient movement of petroleum products as well as preventing adulteration and providing increased safety. It will connect Punjab from Machike, near Lahore, to Tarujabba, near Peshawar.

The pipeline consists of three segments: Machike-Chakpirana, Chakpirana to Rawat, and Rawat to Tarujabba.

It completes the infrastructure supply chain from Karachi to Peshawar. This may be called a flagship project spearheaded by FWO and jointly supported by PSO and ISGS.

The 427 km long pipeline, aims at ensuring a smooth supply chain of petroleum products from Karachi to Peshawar with an initial carrying capacity of 6 MTPA. The pipeline shall contribute significantly towards the reduction of traffic congestion, environmental pollution, and transportation costs.

Int’l conference on ‘Recent Trends in Chemistry’ begins at AIOU

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (APP):A two-day 6th International Conference on “Recent Trends in Chemistry” commenced at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Wednesday.
Vice Chancellor, AIOU, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood was the chief guest at the inaugural session. He highlighted the importance of promoting science as it is crucial for the development of any country and nation.
Dr. Nasir encouraged the students to work hard for the prosperity of the country, and to fulfill their dreams because it cannot be achieved without hard work.
He also mentioned that the world is open for those who work hard, and the success of students is an honor for the institution. Additionally, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the need for useful and applied research for the betterment of society. This conference is being organized by the Department of Chemistry, AIOU.
Dr. Nasir mentioned that experts in chemistry from Russia, China, and other parts of the world have participated in the conference to educate students about the latest trends in chemistry. This will help students stay well-informed about the developments in the field of chemistry.
The Chairperson of the Chemistry Department, Dr. Uzma Yunus, explained the aims and objectives of the conference in detail. She emphasized the importance of the conference, as AIOU is celebrating its golden jubilee and the chemistry department is celebrating its silver jubilee this year.
Dr. Uzma explained that the conference aims to showcase the research-based projects of students, provide a platform for scholars to interact with the national and international research community to enhance the quality of research, and acquaint students with the latest trends in chemistry.
She added that scholars from 11 universities within the country will present their papers at the conference, and scholars from China and Russia will present their papers online.

Minister hails cabinet decision to provide e-bikes to students

LAHORE, Feb 14 (APP):Caretaker Provincial Transport Minister Ibrahim Hasan Murad said on Wednesday that the Punjab Cabinet had given the green light to provide free electric bikes to ten thousand students on favorable terms.
In a statement issued here, he outlined that with the collaboration of Punjab Bank, electric bikes would be distributed without interest under accessible conditions. Out of these, 7,000 electric bikes would be allocated to male students, while 3,000 will be designated for female students.
Ibrahim Hasan Murad specified that students in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi would be the primary beneficiaries of this initiative. Youth interested in availing this opportunity could submit their applications through the PITB (Punjab Information Technology Board) portal. Emphasizing the importance of possessing a valid driving license, the minister highlighted that this eco-friendly initiative aimed to combat environmental pollution, with the assurance that electric bikes would play a pivotal role in reducing air pollution significantly.
