SPSC cancels paper of Secondary School Teacher to maintain transparency

KARACHI, Feb 20 (APP):Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) has cancelled the paper for the post of Secondary School Teacher (BS-16) scheduled on February 20 over the credible information of the leakage of the question paper.
In statements issued by the Secretary and  Controller Examination SPSC, the Chairman has ordered an inquiry of the matter.
All candidates have been advised to remain calm as Sindh Public Service Commission believes in transparency and no tolerance will be shown on the delinquents, the statement added.
The new date of the cancelled paper will be announced in due course of time.
 The SPSC Secretary also clarified that the interview written test for the post of Head Master/Headmistress (BS-17) and Assistant (BS-16) Anti-Corruption and Enquires Department scheduled on 27 and 28 February will be conducted as per schedule.

First Lady advocates education, women empowerment

KARACHI, Feb 20 (APP): First Lady, Samina Alvi on Tuesday underscored the invaluable contributions of teachers and the imperative need for their recognition in shaping the future of nation.

Addressing the Teacher’s Appreciation Ceremony of Behbud Girls College and Higher Secondary School, she lauded Behbud Association for their dedication to recognising and appreciating the hard work of teachers.

She emphasised the vital role, teachers play in shaping the future of their students and commended the organisation for championing the cause of women empowerment through education.

The first lady stressed the importance of teachers focusing on critical thinking, IT skills, and communication skills in children.

In a society increasingly reliant on these skills, she underscored the need for character building and instilling values to foster civilised and compassionate citizens.

Expressing concern over the educational landscape, the first lady asserted, “Teachers are the backbone of our schools, working tirelessly to mould children into constructive contributors to society.”

She highlighted the transformative power of education and emphasised that change in society is achievable through effective education.

She expressed sorrow over the fact that 10 million children were out of school in the country.

Diving deeper into the education discourse, the first lady drew attention to the critical role of mothers in laying the foundation for a child’s education.

She stated, “An educated mother is a strong pillar of a strong society,” adding half of the population in Pakistan comprised women.

She lamented the high illiteracy rates in Pakistan, especially among female children, owing to a male-dominated society, stressing the need for a paradigm shift.
In a poignant revelation, the first lady shed light on the challenges faced by women in remote areas, deprived of educational opportunities due to various constraints.

She passionately advocated for the empowerment of women, recognising them as indispensable for a progressive society.

She referenced the World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report, ranking Pakistan 145 out of 146 countries, underscoring the urgency for change.

The first lady concluded her address by sharing her dedication to various social issues, including breast cancer awareness, mental health, and stress management.

She highlighted the scarcity of psychiatrists in Pakistan and the stigma surrounding mental health, calling for increased awareness.

Additionally, she expressed her commitment to facilitating differently-abled citizens and empowering women and girls in Pakistan.

In closing remarks, the first lady expressed gratitude to the media persons for their pivotal role in creating awareness on these crucial issues and educating the masses.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates and gifts to teachers and students who had displayed exceptional performance, underscoring the importance of recognising and rewarding excellence in education.

‘No Deadlock’ in talks with PML-N: Kaira

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP): Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Tuesday that there was no significant deadlock in the talks between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Speaking to a private news channel, he said that while there may be minor issues to look at, discussions within the coordination committees of both parties were advancing positively.

With several weeks remaining until the scheduled oath-taking on February 29, Kaira said that there was still ample time to address any remaining issues and finalize arrangements.

The discussions within the coordination committees of both parties were making favorable progress, he added.

DG AARI inaugurates early cotton cultivation

FAISALABAD, Feb 20 (APP):Ayub Agricultural Research Institute’s (AARI) newly appointed Director General (DG) Malik Allah Bukhsh has inaugurated early (Ageti) cotton cultivation here on Tuesday and said that early cultivation would play a pivotal role in obtaining bumper production.
During inaugural ceremony at Cotton Research Station Faisalabad, he said that cotton is a precious crop of Pakistan which not only provide raw material to the local textile industry but also help in stabling national economy by fetching precious foreign exchange up to Rs.30 billion.
He said that Agriculture department has activated its entire field staff to persuade and guide the farmers for ensuring early cotton cultivation over maximum space of their lands because early cultivated crops gives maximum production as chances of pest and disease attack on early cultivation are less than the late sowing.
Chief Scientist Cotton Research Institute Multan Dr Muhammad Sarwar said that approved cotton varieties including CKC-5, CKC-1, Ghauri-2, CKC-6 and ICS-386 are best for early cultivation from mid-February to end of March in different parts of the Punjab whereas farmers of Faisalabad, Multan, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, Vehari, Khanewal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawal Nagar, Rajanpur, Muzaffar Garh, Layyah and Sahiwal should prefer to CKC-3 and Hataf-3 for early cultivation up to 31st March.
The approved varieties have strong resistance against Ghulabi Sundi (pink bollworm) and different weeds, he added.

World Day of Social Justice observed

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP):Like other parts of the world, Pakistan celebrated  the “World Day of Social Justice” here on Tuesday aiming to bring equality and to create the best employment opportunities.
The theme of this year is “Bridging Gaps, Building Alliances.” Whereas, on the World Day of Social Justice, India has deprived people of its Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and minorities in the country especially Muslims of social justice and basic rights.
In a statement in Srinagar, spokesman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference said Kashmiris have been struggling for their rights for the past seven decades but India has been keeping them deprived of their UN-mandated rights under international law.
Meanwhile, Muslim, Christian, Dalit, and Sikh communities have expressed profound fear and insecurity stemming from systemic oppression and discriminatory policies of India.
The theme of the International Day in 2023 focused on the urgency of combatting racism and racial discrimination, 75 years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
The UDHR stated that everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms, without distinction of any kind, such as race and color, among others. However, racism and racial discrimination continue to affect people all over the world.

Police arrest dacoits, return looted valuables worth Rs 10m to complainants

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Feb 20 (APP):Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) city circle Dera Ghazi Khan Rehmatullah said on Tuesday that police have arrested more than three notorious dacoits and the recovered valuables and cash, which have been handed over to the complainants.
Addressing a press conference, the ASP city said that the police accelerated its anti-crime operations in the light of instructions from DPO Ahmad Mohyuddin which resulted in the arrest of notorious criminals including Jahanzeb, Aslam, Asif, and others yielding recovery of looted and stolen goods worth Rs 10 million including Rs 1.5 million in cash.
 The recovery included a car, a small van, 18 motorcycles, besides Rs 1.5 million, and valuables overall of Rs 10 million. Rehmatullah said that the looted/stolen property and cash have been handed over to the complainants of different cases.
He said the police were alert and committed to safeguarding the property and lives of people.

99 Dolphin Jawans rewarded

FAISALABAD, Feb 20 (APP):SSP Operations Hasan Javaid Bhatti distributed commendatory certificates and cash prizes among 99 Jawans of Dolphin Force in recognition of their excellent performance.
In a formal certificate distribution ceremony in his office here on Tuesday, he said that the Dolphin Force played a dynamic role in decreasing the ratio of street crimes in Faisalabad after their deployment in city areas.
He said that Dolphin Jawans ensured thorough patrolling day and night especially in troubled areas in addition to keeping a vigilant eye on the movement of suspects. The scope of their patrolling beats would be increased to create a sense of safety and security among the general public, he added.
He also distributed cash prizes and commendatory certificates among 99 Dolphin Jawans and said that they had nabbed proclaimed offenders, absconders, dacoits and robbers in addition to arresting illicit weapon holders, drug traffickers and kite dealers.

PFA introduces ‘milk traceability system’ in 10 tehsils of Punjab

LAHORE, Feb 20 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority has introduced the “milk traceability system” in 10 tehsils of Punjab to trace the journey of milk from the farm to store and house.
In this regard, PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid on Tuesday briefed the media about the traceability system, its execution plan as well as registration of milk carrier vehicles.
He said that basically, the “milk traceability system” was all about keeping track of where milk comes from, how it’s processed and how it reaches homes. This way, we can ensure that  milk we drink and use is safe, clean and up to the standards set by the Punjab Food Authority, he said.
In the first phase, the PFA has selected the 10 tehsils of Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal and Bahawalpur for this programme.
He said that it would be necessary for ‘Gawala’ (milkmen) and milk suppliers to register with the Punjab Food Authority by the end of March. All milk tankers, chillers, pick-ups, bikes and rickshaws will be registered under the milk traceability system, he added.
The PFA DG further said it was a big step towards ensuring consumer confidence and promoting transparency in the dairy industry. Further, dairy farmers and milkmen can proudly show that their milk is part of a traceable system, which adds value to their products, he added.
He said that the aim of introducing the milk traceability system was to fully monitor the delivery of milk. He said that a complete record of the daily milk supply of the registered milkmen and the suppliers shall be prepared.
Muhammad Asim said that more than 400 million litres of milk had been checked across the province since January 1, 2017, till now. Meanwhile, the PFA discarded 8.240 million litres of substandard and adulterated milk. The PFA has been working on an international scale to bring quality milk and food to the masses, he added.

FDE, NH&MP organize road safety awareness lecture
