ITF Pakistan Zainab Ali Naqvi Memorial World Jr Cship kicks off

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP): The ITF Pakistan Zainab Ali Naqvi Memorial World Junior Championship Leg-2 kicked off here at PTF -SDA Tennis Complex on Tuesday, in memory of the late Zainab Ali Naqvi, an upcoming junior tennis player, who tragically passed away last week in Islamabad.

A total of 48 players boys and girls from Kazakhstan, Turkey, USA, Hongkong, China, Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Romania, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Holland and Thailand were participating in the Championships. As many as 30 Pakistani boys and girls were also participating in the Championships.

A ceremony was held at PTF Complex today to dedicate Court No-1 ‘Zainab Ali Naqvi Court’ of the Complex in memory of the late Zainab Ali Naqvi.

The dedication ceremony was graced by Zainab’s parents, who had especially flown in from Karachi. Also in attendance were Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, Ex-President-PTF, Aisam ul Haq Qureshi, President of PTF, and a large number of foreign and local players’ parents, coaches and tennis lovers.

Senator Salim Saifullah Khan and Aisam ul Haq paid rich tribute to the young and talented Zainab and expressed their condolences and deep sympathies to her parents.

IHC issues non-bailable arrest warrant against DC ICT

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrant against Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT),  Irfan Nawaz Memon on non-appearance in contempt of court case in a matter pertaining to the MPO orders for PTI’s leader Shehryar Khan Afridi.
The court directed the secretary of interior and DG Passport to place the name of exit control list (ECL), so he couldn’t flee abroad.
The court said that the deputy commissioner has apparently committed contempt of court as he didn’t appear even after the dismissal of his request for exemption from attendance. The court said that the DC should explain that why not a legal action should be taken against him for hindering the justice process.
It further directed the inspector generals of four provinces to produce Irfan Memon before the court after arresting him.   The court instructed the IGP Islamabad to execute the arrest warrants with the assistance of the police of other provinces. It also directed the Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest the accused if he was found at any airport, seaport or any border crossing.
Justice Babar Sattar heard the contempt of court case against the deputy commissioner ICT wherein Prosecutor Qaiser Imam, SSP Operations Malik Jameel Zafar and SP Farooq Buttar.
Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon didn’t appear before the court and filed a request through his lawyer for exemption from attendance. The lawyer said that his client was unable to appear that day as he was departing to perform Umrah and currently he was in Khairpur. The court rejected the application for exemption and issued arrest warrants against Mr. Memon.

FAISALABAD, Feb 20 (APP):Plugging loopholes of smuggling and ensuring availability of dollar at a stable rate was herculean task but at the same time provision of energy at regionally competitive rates was more imperative to catalyze the economy, said Dr Sajjad Arshad, Acting President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI).
He was addressing to the delegation of the 49th Mandatory Training Course at the Staff Training Institute Establishment and Administration Department Government of KPK. The participants of this course visited FCCI and interacted with the office bearers on the role of the private sector in the national economy.
He said that the electricity was available at 8 cent in India, 10 cent in Bangladesh and 6 cent in Vietnam while its rate in Pakistan was 14 cent which had enhanced the price of exportable surplus.
He said, “Pakistan is blessed with cheap labor in abundance and if electricity at competitive rate is ensured, our industrial sector could perform much better.”
He also underlined the importance of the SME sector and said that it could neither expand their existing units nor introduce new technology due to the financial crunch and high cost of loans.
He mentioned the Chinese model and said that it was producing 50% cheap electricity through solar and wind while the remaining was generated through water.
About socioeconomic issues, the Acting President said that Pakistan was ranked at 161st position in health quality index while 46% women are anemic and 40% children were facing stunted growth.
He further said, “261million children are out of school and we must provide them with basic facilities to make them a productive part of the society.”
Earlier he also introduced Faisalabad and FCCI and said that the business community was playing a commendable role for the uplift of the social sector.
Dildar Muhammad Danish Director General Staff Training Institute KPK said that inland tours were conducted for the participants of the training courses so that they could fully understand the practical implications of the public and private sector.
He further said that they were also equipped with IT and E-governance to extend maximum facilities to the public at large.
Vice President Hajji Muhammad Aslam Bhalli offered vote of thanks while Acting President presented FCCI shield to Dildar Muhammad Danish Director General Staff Training Institute KPK.
Dildar also reciprocated and presented shield and traditional feathered caps to Dr Sajjad Arshad and Hajji Aslam Bhalli.

EC notifies names of candidates returned from PK-20, PK-21

PESHAWAR, Feb 20 (APP):The Election Commission (EC) of Pakistan has notified the names of candidates returned on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly constituencies including PK-20 Bajaur II and PK-21 Bajaur III.
According to the notification, Anwar Zeb Khan and Ajmal Khan have been returned on Bajaur PK-20 and PK-21respectively.
Anwar Zeb Khan secured 12917 votes while Ajmal Khan secured 16712 votes. The number of votes polled in PK-20 is 40507 and 39827 in PK-21.
Both the candidates have contested elections as independents. The independent candidates may join a political party within three days of issuance of notification under clause 3 of Article 106 of the constitution, said the notification issued here Tuesday.

DCs directed to launch crackdown against polythene bags

PESHAWAR, Feb 20 (APP):Commissioner Mardan Division Shaukat Ali Yousafzai has directed the Deputy Commissioners of Mardan and Swabi to launch crackdown against on the use of polythene bags and its businesses in their respective districts.
He also directed to provide necessary facilities to transporters and passengers at Chamtar Bus Terminal and take stern action against illegal transport stands in the city and immediate transfer of all stands to the new bus terminal.
He issued these directives while addressing a monthly performance and revenue review meeting in his office on Tuesday.
Besides, Additional Commissioner Mardan Division Naeem Akhtar, Deputy Commissioner Mardan Muhammad Fayaz Khan Sherpao, DC Swabi Dr. Tariqullah, Assistant to Commissioner Fazlur Rehman, Assistant and Additional Commissioners of Mardan and Swabi and other relevant officials also attended the meeting.
In the meeting, collection of government revenue in Mardan and Swabi, visits to educational institutions, hospitals and Patwar Khanas by the officers and other issues were reviewed and important decisions were taken in this regard.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Mardan Division Shaukat Ali Yousafzai expressed his displeasure over the lack of interest of the concerned Assistant Commissioners in the campaign against polythene bags and directed them to play their role in eradicating this scourge that destroys the environment. He said that negligence in this regard will not be tolerated in any circumstances.
He directed the administrative officers to use all resources to establish the writ of law in their jurisdiction and provide relief to the people.
Shaukat Ali Yousafzai further directed that the officers to hold open courts on a regular basis and ensure that the problems faced by the people are solved at their doorsteps.
