IT exports up by 39% in January: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):Caretaker Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Dr Umar Saif has said that IT exports in January witnessed an increase of 39.4 per cent to $265 million compared to $190 million in the same month of the last fiscal year.
 “Pakistan’s IT industry continues to grow and sets new records. IT exports in January are up by 39.4 per cent to $265 million, compared to $190 million in the same month in 2023,” the minister posted on X.
Additionally, the minister disclosed that IT exports during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (July-January) reached $1.7 billion, marking a 13 per cent increase from $1.5 billion in the corresponding period of the last year.

PDMA issues weather warning

LAHORE, Feb 21 (APP):Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Imran Qureshi has issued a warning to all departments concerned in the wake of expected heavy rainfall, storm and more snowfall in Murree, Galyat and surrounding areas in the last week of February.
He called upon the departments to get ready to deal with any weather-related emergency. He directed the traffic police and authorities concerned for providing optimal services with special attention for tourists’ facilities during this period of time.
Qureshi urged tourists to consider weather conditions while planning a trip to these areas. In case of any emergency, they may contact PDMA helpline at 1129 while for Murree administration’s control room, they may contact the authorities on telephone number 0519269015, 0519269016 and 0519269018.

Three gamblers held

MUZAFFARGARH, Feb 21 (APP):Police arrested three gamblers with stake money recovered from their possession.
According to the spokesman, the accused were identified as Atif, Ishtiaq and Shehzad. They were arrested from deserted location in jurisdiction of Kot Addu city police station.
Stake money worth Rs. 16500 was taken into the custody by the police after the raid.
SHO of the police appealed to the masses to cooperate with them to find out and fix dens of such kind of crimes. He said the police was determined to maintain peace in society and protection of people.

Police arrest two bike lifters with four stolen motorcycles

RAWALPINDI, Feb 21 (APP): Police have arrested two bike lifters and recovered four stolen motorcycles from their possession, said a Police spokesman here on Wednesday.

He informed that a team under the supervision of SHO, Dhamial Police Station managed to net two bike lifters namely Aliya Pitras and Ehtesham and recovered four stolen motorcycles and other items from their possession.

A case has been registered against the accused while further investigation is underway.

Superintendent of Police, Saddar Muhammad Nabeel Khokhar said the accomplices and facilitators of the accused would also be sent behind bars.

KPCTA to start Takht Bhai Safari Train from March 3

PESHAWAR, Feb 21 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) have announced to start Takht Bhai Train Safari for tourists from March 3.
It is the first tour that was arranged by KPCTA to take tourists to UNESCO heritage sites situated in KP.
In first phase, about 130 tourist families would be taken to Peshawar Saddar Railway Station at 9:00 AM from where they would proceed to historic places including City Railway Station, Nasirpur, Pabbi, Nowshera and Mardan.
Tourists would also be taken for a visit to Takht Bhai relics where they would be briefed about historic facts about ancient Buddhist worship places.
A guide tour would also be arranged for orientation of women and families about relics of Buddha era. The tourist would be welcomed at Saddar Railway Station by traditional music and they were provided information about Buddha architecture during their journey.

Smart farm project, water saving equipment to help enhance agri production in Pakistan: Ghulam Qadir

BEIJING, Feb 21 (APP): The Million Acres of Green Pakistan Smart Farm Project and water-saving equipment supplied by Tianjin Dayu Irrigation Group would bring transfer of advanced irrigation technology and help increase agricultural production in Pakistan, said Ghulam Qadir, Pakistan’s Commercial Counselor in Pakistan Embassy, Beijing.

The first batch of equipment for the smart farm project has been dispatched to Pakistan by the Chinese water-saving industry leader, Tianjin Dayu Irrigation Group.

The batch of intelligent water and fertilizer integrated irrigation equipment covering a farmland area of 2,000 hectares will be used for the planting and irrigation of wheat, cotton, tomatoes, corn and other crops, providing vital technical support for the construction of smart farms in Pakistan.

“The launch of this project and the shipment of the first batch of equipment will bring the transfer of advanced irrigation technology to Pakistan, consolidate the agricultural foundation of Pakistan, truly enable the development of Pakistan’s agriculture, and become an important milestone in the history of Pakistan’s agricultural development,” Ghulam Qadir said during the materials shipping ceremony held at the Tianjin Equipment Manufacturing Base of Dayu Water Saving Group.

Terming the agriculture a pillar industry in Pakistan, the commercial counsellor said that Tianjin Dayu Irrigation Group had made great achievements in the research and development of agricultural water-saving products and technological innovation, setting a new standard for world agricultural development.

“The world’s most advanced technology will help us increase production. It can not only be as self-use, but will also be of great help to our food exports in the future,” he added.

Ghulam Qadir hoped to build a close cooperation with Dayu Group in multiple dimensions as the Group has made considerable achievements in flood prevention, disaster early warning, rural sewage treatment, and so on.

Wang Feng, member of the party group and first-level inspector of the Tianjin Water Affairs Bureau, said that the smart farm project was an important achievement of implementing President Xi Jinping’s water conservation policy and also marked the beginning of Tianjin’s water-saving industry to be effective for countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.

As a Tianjin agricultural water-saving enterprise, Dayu Group’s international cooperation was of great significance, he added.

He hoped that the two sides would continue to strengthen cooperation and make greater contributions to the high-quality development of the water-saving industry.

This bilateral cooperation focuses on long-term development to gradually transfer the mature management experience of tridimensional water management of agricultural water conservation, safe drinking water for farmers, and rural sewage treatment to Belt and Road partners including Pakistan.

LESCO detects 55,807 power pilferers in 162 days

LAHORE, Feb 21 (APP):Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) detected a total of 55,807 connections from where the customers were pilfering electricity in all its circles of five districts (Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara) on the 162nd day of grand anti-power theft campaign.
The LESCO spokesman told media here on Wednesday that the company submitted FIR applications against electricity thieves, out of which 51,367 FIRs were registered in respective police stations, while 17,612 accused were arrested.The LESCO had so far charged a total of 75,043,637 detection units worth Rs 2,877,553,123 to all the power pilferers.
Grand anti-power theft operations against electricity thieves were being conducted on the directives of the Federal Power Division and the LESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Shahid Haider was supervising these operations. The LESCO chief vowed that the operations would continue without discrimination until the complete end of electricity theft. The electricity pilferers as well as the LESCO officers and employees who facilitate them were being brought to justice.
The spokesman added,the LESCO found 438 customers stealing electricity through various means and 146 cases were registered against the accused during the last 24 hours.On the 162nd consecutive day of the anti-power theft campaign,he mentioned that large commercial consumers were found involved in electricity theft and all of them were also disconnected and charged with detection units.Among the seized connections 21 were commercial, 02 agricultural, 01 industrial and 414 domestic and all these connections were disconnected and charged with a total of 333,789 units as detection bill amounting to Rs 11.548 million.
Apprising the media about some major power pilferers, he explained that LESCO charged Rs 550,000 detection bill to a pilferer in Sundar area, Rs 300,000 detection bills to another power pilferer in Manawan area, Rs 300,000 fine in the form of detection bills to a customer stealing electricity in Batapur; and Rs 300,000 detection bill to a power thieve in Chunian.

Food officials inspects food items in different markets

KOHAT, Feb 21 (APP): Under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Khushal program and directives of the Deputy Commissioner Kohat Dr. Azmatullah Wazir, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority team inspected food items in various markets of Kohat.
Through a modern mobile testing laboratory, they tested and proved the adulteration of water in milk.
Seller was fined, on this occasion.
A grocery store was also fined for having a large quantity of expired items and was issued necessary instructions to other shopkeepers to ensure the implementation of the law.

Oath-taking of Engineering University Teachers Association held

PESHAWAR, Feb 21 (APP):The oath-taking ceremony of Engineering University Teachers Association was held here Wednesday in the main hall of Engineering University with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Qaiser Ali in the chair.
The Vice-Chancellor administered the oath to the President and Cabinet of the Association.
Ameer Taj (Department of Computer Science) was sworn in as President, while Prof. Dr. Zahid Wadud Mufti was sworn in as Vice President, Dr. Atif Sardar as General Secretary, Dr. Mezmirul Haque as Joint Secretary and Engineer Adnan Rasheed as Finance Secretary.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaiser Ali in his address congratulated the new cabinet of the association for taking charge.
Appreciating the efforts of teachers for the promotion of higher education, he assured teachers association of full support.
Amir Taj, the newly elected president of the teachers’ association, said in his address that the Engineering University Teachers’ Association was a non-political organization whose aim is to find solutions to the problems of the teaching community in collaboration with the university administration and to do everything possible for the promotion of higher education.
The ceremony was attended by Deans, Registrars, Senior Professors, Teachers and other officers of Engineering University.

Kohat Police carries out search operation in Jangle Khel areas, Afghan camp

KOHAT, Feb 21 (APP)::Police search and strike operation in Kohat Jangal Khel and adjacent Afghan camps was carried out with a number of suspects, including facilitators of criminals, arrested during an intelligence-based targeted search operation.
According to the details, an official of the Kohat Police regarding the operation said that during the targeted search operation, 2 pistols, and 110 grams of ice were recovered from the arrested persons.
He said, all the persons detained during the search operation were transferred to Jangal Khel Police Station for investigation.
Cases were registered against the arrested persons including arms and drugs in the search and strike operation, he added. He said the search operation was conducted under the leadership of DSP Headquarters Imaduddin.
A heavy contingent of Police participated in the search operation led by SHO Jangalkhel Wajid Ali.
