PTSM providing guidance to tourists for safe journey

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):The Punjab Tourism Squad Murree (PTSM) provides comprehensive guidance and awareness to domestic and foreign tourists making their journey safe and enjoyable.
Punjab Secretary Tourism Raja Jahangir Anwar said that information and assistance could also be obtained by calling the Tourism Squad helpline number-1421 to avoid any untoward incidents, said a news release issued here on Wednesday.
He said Punjab Tourism Squad team were checking the vehicle’s details on the various routes by advising the driver and his family members that it was not suitable to stay in the vehicle as there was a risk of accumulating carbon monoxide which is a health and safety hazard.
For guidance on tourism in Malika Kohsar Murree, information could be acquired from the Punjab Tourism Squad team at the tourist spot.

Countrywide 7th Agricultural Census costing Rs650m in Sept-Oct 2024

PESHAWAR, Feb 21 (APP):Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) as per United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) guidelines, has decided to conduct 7th Agricultural Census throughout the country including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its newly merged districts to integrate the agricultural, livestock and agro machinery on scientific lines by using digital technology.
A budget of Rs. 650 million is allocated for 7th Agricultural Census despite meager financial resources of the country.
It was revealed at a special meeting of PBS at Benevolent Fund Building Peshawar that was chaired by senior member PBS Muhammad Sarwar Gondal (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) while high ups and senior field officers from PBS, KP Bureau of Statistics, KP Agriculture and Information departments attended in large number.
The meeting was told that large scale Agri holdings (NCH) and Process re-engineering strategy has been evolved to make this vital national move a success story like the COVID Census that was successfully conducted on crash grounds in 2019. The data and information thus collected will be utilized for evidence-based policy making. Hence efficient and effective management of human and financial resources are crucial for this 7th Digital Agricultural Census, the meeting was further told.
It was informed that PBS has established 157 Agricultural Census Support Centers for seamless execution and management of field operations wherein the provincial stakeholders viz Board of Revenue, Agriculture Extension, Livestock, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bureau of Statistics, Crop Reporting Services will support in Field Operation, Supervision and Monitoring. It was also decided to fully exploit the print, electronic and social media for outreach of this national exercise to all the concerned circles of society.
M Sarwar Gondal, Member (SS/RM), PBS, informed that the 7th Agricultural Census will provide benchmark data for policy planning to fulfil the food and fiber needs of more than 241 million population of the country.  For broader involvement and wider acceptability, PBS has initiated engagements with its partner organizations and provincial stakeholders whose participation will help in diversified perspectives, identifying needs and addressing the shortcomings and potential issues in provision of reliable data in the agriculture sector.
The meeting of all provincial focal persons was held on 20th December 2023 at PBS HQ Islamabad. Afterwards, a series of provincial meetings started, the first provincial meeting was held at Provincial Census Coordination Center (P3C), PBS, Karachi, Sindh. The second provincial meeting was held on 15th February, 2024 at P3C, PBS, Provincial Office, Punjab, Lahore while the third provincial meeting of this sequel was held at Peshawar.
Pakistan is an agricultural country and agriculture has 23% share in our national GDP out of which share of only livestock is 64%.  Agriculture is providing employment to 37% of our labor force, therefore, Agricultural Census 2024 will be an important source for evidence-based policy making.
 He emphasized on the maximum participation and cooperation of provincial stakeholders for successful completion of the field operation in the 7th Agricultural Census.
He further apprised in detail regarding the methodology, field operation plan, media strategy, and efficient use of the available budget requirements. He informed that PBS is using newly developed sampling design which is also vetted by FAO wherein 11054 Mouzas/Blocks are selected all over the country, out of which 2190 mouzas/blocks pertains to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He informed that It will be the First Integrated Digital exercise in the field of agriculture for data collection in Pakistan through optimum utilization of available resources. The Digital aspects like Tablet based data collection, use of digitized maps of Mouzas/Blocks, SMS Gateway, Call Centers, were elaborated clearly.
It was informed that for smooth and efficient field operations, various working groups for Complaint Management and provision of information have been constituted. The divisional and district census coordinators have already been deployed by PBS at each Agricultural CSC for technical guidance, facilitation, and operational management. Similarly, 157 training venues having facilities of multimedia, internet, sound system, laptops, printers have been shortlisted. Training will be imparted using ICT materials with interactive videos/audios by the expert trainers to ensure standardization of the census concepts. PBS has also planned for process re-engineering to enumerate the big holdings (NCH) throughout the country.
The provincial stakeholders appreciated the efforts of PBS and ensured the cooperation for successful conduct of this great task of national importance.

Divisional commissioner Mirpur Khas chairs meeting of polio task force

MIRPURKHAS, Feb 21 (APP):Divisional Commissioner Mirpur Khas, Faisal Ahmad Uqeli chaired a pivotal meeting of the Divisional Polio Task Force at his office on Wednesday.
Emphasizing the significance of comprehensive vaccination coverage, Commissioner Uqeli underscored the need for effective measures to ensure that no child is left unvaccinated against polio.
Directing the district health officers of Umarkot, Tharparkar, and Mirpur Khas, Commissioner Uqeli reiterated that the polio campaign is a national duty, and strict legal action should be taken against any negligence in this regard.
Providing insights during the briefing, he highlighted ongoing polio program training in Mirpur Khas, Umarkot, and Tharparkar. Commissioner Uqeli noted that 2882 mobile teams are actively operating across 112 union councils within 14 tehsils of Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, and Tharparkar districts.
Recognizing the need for improvement, Commissioner Uqeli stressed the importance of addressing the 34% coverage gap. He announced that during the upcoming polio campaign from February 26 to March 2, vitamin drops will accompany the polio vaccine for young children.
Additionally, he acknowledged the shortage of female workers in some union councils of Mirpur Khas during the polio campaign.
The meeting was attended by District Health Officer Mirpur Khas, Dr. Jairamdas, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ghulam Dastgir Sheikh, Regional Director PPHI Mazhar Ali Vissar, Regional Director of the Local Government Office Ayaz Ali, Focal Person for the Polio Program in Mirpur Khas, Dr. Naraindas, WHO representative Dr. Alam Azad, Director of Secondary Education Abdul Latif, Information Officer Mirpurkhas Yasar nawaz Maiman, along with other relevant officers.
Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar Abdul Halim Jagirani, District Health Officer Tharparkar Dr. Yusuf Baqir Jatoi, Deputy Commissioner Umarkot Wali Muhammad Baloch, and District Health Officer Umarkot Dr. Farid Ahmad Hangurjo, along with other concerned officers, participated via video link.

UVAS 20th annual sports day to be held on Feb 28

LAHORE, Feb 21 (APP):The University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore is arranging 20th Annual Sports Day on Wednesday, Feb 28 in City Campus Sports Ground.
Director Sports Board UVAS Rana Amjad Iqbal chaired a meeting of conveners of management committees and reviewed preparations/arrangements for the annual sports day. The conveners of committees briefed the meeting on the working progress of their respective committees.
Secretary Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab Muhammad Masood Anwar will be chief guest on the inauguration ceremony of sports day.
Various games will be played on the annual sports day while students of various departments, staff and faculty members will participate in these competitions.

RWMC deploys sanitary workers for PSL matches

RAWALPINDI, Feb 21 (APP):Chairman Rawalpindi Waste Management Company(RWMC) Saqib Rafiq on Wednesday said sanitary workers had been deployed  at Rawalpindi cricket Stadium for the upcoming PSL cricket matches scheduled to be held in March.
He said this while inspecting the sanitation situation in the Union Council-1 ,Ratta Amral and UC-2 Dhok Ratta along with the operational staff of the RWMC.
Saqib said that it was impossible for a few thousand workers to reach everywhere for cleaning the huge populated area of the city comprising over millions of people, however he urged the residents to throw garbage in dustbins placed in every Union council of the city or put it in the waste bags and hand over to the sanitary workers.
He said that throwing garbage and construction debris in open streets and drains was the leading cause of obstruction and urged the residents to cooperate with the RWMC staff in its efforts to make the city neat and clean.
During his visit the Chairman also interacted with the residents of the area and said their suggestions would be helpful in making the city free from waste.
Saqib appealed to the residents to ensure the spraying of water in their respective areas to prevent dust and to use masks and glasses.
He asked them  to not burn waste and chemicals in the open as they were the major cause of smog, adding burning garbage was a legal offence as smoke and dust contributed to smog which was harmful to the environment and human health.
He added that RWMC would utilize all its resources to make the city environment-friendly. In case of any complaint, citizens were asked to register their complaints on helpline number 1139, which would be resolved immediately.

Hamdard University’s convocation to be held on Feb 24

KARACHI, Feb 21 (APP):The 26th convocation of Hamdard University (HU) will be held on Saturday (February 24) at 3.00 pm at the main campus of the University, Madinat al Hikmah.
Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission Pakistan, will attend the ceremony as chief guest. Whereas, the Chancellor of the University Sadia Rashid will preside over the convocation.
In the convocation, medals, degrees, and certificates will be distributed among hundreds of students who completed their courses in the academic year of 2023.
Besides, Prof. Dr. Shabibul Hasan, Vice Chancellor, members of Board of Governors (HU), diplomats, distinguished guests, students, and their parents will attend the convocation.
