Irfan Siddiqui criticizes PTI for attempting to dent IMF programme

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (APP): Senator Irfan Saddiqui criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s statement on Friday for approaching the International Monetary Fund (IMF) not to support Pakistan, in a desperate attempt for political gains.

Speaking in the Senate, he expressed concern that such a demand from a political party could negatively impact the country’s interests.

He called upon the House to debate whether preventing financial institutions by political parties from supporting Pakistan would be beneficial or detrimental to the country.

Road safety awareness, training camp held

FAISALABAD, Feb 23 (APP): Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue-1122) on Friday organized a road safety awareness & training camp to ensure safe motorcycle riding, helmet benefits,back view mirrors and protection from kite strings.
According to a spokesperson,District Emergency Officer (DEO),Zafar Iqbal and Kashif Aqeel, Country head inaugurated the camp while,Emergency Officer Operations Engr.Tariq Mehmood, company’s manager Mubeen Anwar, a large number of rescue staff and others participated in the training program.
DEO Zafar Iqbal said that helmets reduce the severity of head injury up to 70 % in road accidents. He also shared various tips for prevention from road accidents.
He said that one of the main causes for accidents was use of mobile phones during riding, due to which many riders get into accidents every day. However, motorists should avoid the use of cell phones when they were driving bikes.
On the occasion, helmets, back view mirrors and pamphlets were also distributed among the participants.

ANF recovers 331 kg drugs in 10 operations

RAWALPINDI, Feb 23 (APP):Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Pakistan while conducting 10 operations across the country managed to recover over 331 kg of drugs and arrested 11 accused, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Friday.

He informed that 10.5 kg heroin was recovered from a parcel being sent to the UK at Cargo Office Islamabad while an accused was also arrested.

In another operation, 2.5 kg of Ice was recovered from a parcel being sent to Sri Lanka at the Lahore Courier Office. 68 Ice-filled capsules were recovered from a passenger going to Qatar at Islamabad Airport.

1.8 kg hashish was recovered from a Doha-bound passenger, arrested at Peshawar Airport.

330 grams of cocaine was recovered from a parcel sent from Nigeria at Lahore Airport.

255 kg opium was recovered from the Galikank Mustang area and 29 kg hashish was recovered from two suspects arrested from M-1 Motorway Islamabad.

In the 8th operation, 22 kg of hashish was recovered near the Lakpas Toll Plaza Mustang area and an accused was arrested during the operation.

Seven kg of hashish was recovered from two suspects rounded up near Sher Shah Toll Plaza Multan.

In the 10th operation, one kg of hashish was recovered from three suspects held near Mohalla Usmania Gilgit.

The spokesman said that separate cases under the Anti-Narcotics Act have been registered against the arrested accused and further investigations are under process.

PHC grants protective bail of newly elected MNA, MPA Ahmed Chatha

PESHAWAR, Feb 23 (APP): Peshawar High Court judge Justic eFazal Subhan on Friday granted protective bail to newly elected MNA and MPA Muhammad Ahmed Chatha from Punjab against surety bond of one hundred thousand and guarantee of two persons.

The court further ordered the applicant to appear before the concerned court by March 08. Earlier, the judge asked why does everyone come here from Punjab and why do they not appear in the relevant courts there.

The counsel of the petitioner informed the court that the Petitioner has been elected member of National Assembly from NA 66 and MPA from PP 36 but he is not allowed to go to the courts, rather arrested by Punjab police.

He further said that some 28 FIRs were registered against the petitioner in Punjab.

Four fertilizer dealers booked:

SARGODHA, Feb 23 (APP): Four people were arrested for selling substandard fertilizers at a higher-than-fixed rate, here on Friday.
According to official sources,the teams of agriculture department visited various areas of the district and found that dealers –Ashraf in Laksian, Muhammad Amir in Sahiwal,Shafqat Mehmood and Muhammad Shahid in Chak no 46 SB, were selling substandard urea fertilizer at exorbitant rates.
The team also got registered cases against the dealers.
Commissioner Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti said none would be allowed to exploit farmers and the sale of fertilizers at recommended prices would be ensured.

Robbers looted vendor at gunpoint

MUZAFFARGARH, Feb 23 (APP):Armed robbers snatched mobile phones worth thousands of rupees from shopkeepers in Rangpur police station.

Waqas, a fruit seller, alleged in the application to the police station that he was returning to his home in Rangur from Joana Bungalow after closing his shop.

Meanwhile, the three robbers held him at gunpoint and started beating him mercilessly.

Later, the three snatched Rs 13,400 from him including a Nokia brand mobile phone and fled.

The police registered a first information report (FIR) and started investigation.

CPO orders to accelerate crackdown against kite flyers, sellers; 69 arrested

RAWALPINDI, Feb 23 (APP): Rawalpindi district police have accelerated their ongoing crackdown against kite flyers and sellers and managed to net over 69 kite flying ban violators on Thursday night on recovery 3700 kites, 70 string rolls, said a police spokesman here on Friday.
He informed that City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi had directed police officers to accelerate crackdown against kite flyers and sellers.
Rawalpindi district police had arrested over 450 kite flyers and sellers during this season and recovered over 56,000 kites, over 900 kite flying string rolls, weapons, sound systems, liquor and other items from their possession, he said.
Police had made it clear that kite flying was banned and strict action would be taken against the violators, the spokesman added.
Rawalpindi police, on the orders of the CPO, were making all-out efforts to stop kite flying and control aerial firing.
The spokesman said all police stations had been directed to speed up the ongoing operations against kite-flying ban violators while special teams under the supervision of senior police officers were also conducting raids in different areas.
Superintendent of Police, Rawal said that all available resources were being utilized to deal with kite flying ban violators.
He said Police under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police, Operation, were making efforts to control kite flying, aerial firing and violation of the ban.
The spokesman further said that Rawalpindi district police had devised a plan to foil plans to celebrate the banned festival of Basant.
More than 1500 police personnel were deployed on large rooftops in densely populated areas to check kite flying on Thursday night and Friday, where they were equipped with binoculars as well as other resources to apprehend those violating the law by flying kites.
Drone cameras were also being used to track those involved in aerial firing, he said.
“Keeping in mind the need to protect the citizens from any untoward incidents, more than 1500 police officials were deployed to thwart any plans for Basant and drone operators are being used to monitor kite-flying,” he said.
Police officials have reiterated time and again that flying kites is a potentially dangerous sport that can lead to the loss of life, and those found disregarding its cost to human lives will be prosecuted according to law.
The parents, teachers, scholars and civil society were also taken into confidence to play their role in preventing the celebration of Basant.
The Rawalpindi police had also launched an awareness campaign about the hazards of the risky sport with the help of religious scholars, who were asked to make announcements on their respective mosques’ sound systems about the demerits of kite-flying.
The police had finalized arrangements for live monitoring of all densely populated areas, while all Station House Officers (SHOs) had been directed to ensure strict surveillance of kite sellers in their areas.
The police teams were trying to trace and arrest culprits involved in buying and selling killer strings and kites through social media, he said adding, that monitoring of courier services and passenger vehicles coming from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was also being tightened, so that any kites and chemical strings being brought to the city for Basant could be seized.
SSP Operations, Rawalpindi, Hafiz Kamran Asghar said that no one would be allowed to violate the ban and strict action in accordance with the law would be taken against kite flyers and sellers.

Chinese FM stresses all member states to work together to make SCO bigger, stronger

BEIJING, Feb. 23 (APP): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on all member states to work together to make the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) bigger and stronger.

The SCO member states should jointly pursue the organization’s sound development and make it a stabilizing anchor amid the changes in the world. He made these remarks while addressing a reception in Beijing in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the SCO Secretariat.

He pointed out, “There is a greater need for carrying forward the Shanghai Spirit and such a cooperation platform as the SCO.”

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said, “China will continue to take the SCO as a diplomatic priority, provide convenience and support for the work of the Secretariat as always, and support Kazakhstan’s work during its rotating presidency of the SCO.”

“China is ready to work with all parties to ensure that this year’s Astana Summit will produce fruitful results, open up new prospects for the development of the SCO, and contribute more to the lasting peace and common prosperity of the world,” Wang said.

Secretary General of the SCO, Zhang Ming, welcomed the distinguished guests and said, “Over the past 20 years, the SCO has grown from six member states to a big family of 26 member states, observers, and dialogue partners, creating a new cooperation model featuring solidarity and coordination, openness, win-win results, inclusiveness, and mutual learning among countries with different social systems and development paths.”

He said, “The Secretariat will continue to provide solid support for the SCO development.”

More than 200 people, including diplomatic envoys of SCO countries and representatives of international organizations in China, attended the reception.
