PM warmly welcomes as Chinese vice-premier arrives on a three-day visit

ISLAMABAD, July 31 (APP): Prime Minister on Monday warmly welcomed the Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng and members of his delegation as they arrived here on Sunday for a three-day visit.

At the invitation of the Government of Pakistan, the Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping, the Vice Premier of China and Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, is visiting here to attend the 10th-anniversary celebrations of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

“It is my pleasure to warmly welcome the Chinese Vice-Premier H.E. He Lifeng and members of his delegation to Pakistan. They are visiting Pakistan to join us in celebrating the 10th anniversary of CPEC and witnessing first-hand the transformations brought about by this game-changing initiative,” the prime minister wrote on a microblogging site.

“During his visit, He Lifeng will call on President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif,” according to the Foreign Office spokesperson.

Strengthen multifaceted ties with China top priority: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP):Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Ahsan Iqbal Monday said that Pakistan’s top priority was to further strengthen its multifaceted ties in political, trade, and economic spheres with China.

“Pakistan-China economic engagement is multi-dimensional and rapidly growing”, he said while talking to a Private news channel.

“Pakistan enjoys strong relations with China and is now further working to explore new and non-conventional areas of bilateral cooperation, focusing on promoting economic, trade and investment ties,” he added.

“These relations are built on strong foundations,” he said.

“Over the past many decades, both countries have stood by each other, through thick and thin,” he added.

“Pakistan and China talk continues to expedite work on ML1 project and launch it as soon as possible”, he mentioned.

“Chinese expertise and knowledge will also be shared to enhance Pakistan’s export earnings and accelerate special economic zones’ development,” he added.

ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Sunday while strictly taking notice of the incident of torture on a 14 year old girl Rizwana, sought a report from Punjab chief minister.

The PM directed Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi to provide best possible medical treatment to the wounded girl.
He said every effort should be made to save life and restore health of the girl, adding dispensation of justice should be ensured to the oppressed girl.
He said without considering who was the accused, justice and rule of law should be ensured as oppressor and law violators did not deserve any leniency.
He asked the police to not succumb to any pressure and strictly implement the law as the society could not afford such lawlessness and barbarity.
The prime minister assured the parents of the injured child that justice would be done.

National Assembly to be dissolved before August 12: PM

ISLAMABAD, Jul 30 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Sunday said National Assembly will be dissolved before August 12 with consultation of the allied parties.

In an interview with a private news channel, he said the tenure of the National Assembly will end on August 12 and before that the assembly will be dissolved, while the Election Commission will announce a date for the next elections.

He said the decision about the caretaker prime minister will be taken in consultation with the leader of the opposition In the National Assembly and before that he would consult all the allied parties and Pakistan Muslim League(N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif.

Talking about performance of his government, he said in the last 15 months, Pakistan was saved from default with the prayers of the people and the status and dignity of the country was restored among friendly and brotherly countries.

He further said cheap oil was bought from Russia while the government signed an agreement with Azerbaijan under which the government of Azerbaijan will offer one cargo every month at a price suitable to Pakistan. Cheap gas would also be bought from Qatar.

After COVID-19 the gas prices came down to three dollars, but Imran Niazi was focused on targetting the opposition and imposing dictatorship in the country and showed negligence and did not buy cheap gas, he reminded.

He stressed that no case of corruption surfaced during his tenure, adding this year there was a bumper wheat crop while the production of cotton would also be better than in many past years.

Shehbaz said Special Investment Facilitation Council was formed to undertake comprehensive economic recovery, attract foreign investment, bring about agricultural revolution, equip youth with tools of information technology and exploit mineral resources, adding all the federal and provincial governments would strive to achieve goals set by the council.

Talking about measures to provide relief to the people, he said the federal government increased the salaries of government employees of grade 18 and below by 35 percent and of above grade 18 by 30 percent besides increasing pensions by 17.5 percent. Similarly the government of Punjab also raised the salaries of its employees by the same percentage.

Super tax was imposed on the income of rich people and on big business houses related to sugar, cement and other sectors, he added. He told that taxes were also levied on tobacco sector after holding numerous meetings and scanners were imported for right valuation of the tax on the tobacco industry.

The prime minister said the May 9 incident was a conspiracy against Pakistan, Pakistan army and chief of army staff as Imran Niazi, his associates, some persons from army and their family members wanted to overthrow the leadership of Pakistan army, create chaos and cause civil war in Pakistan.
He clarified that the cases of those who attacked civilian installations, would be tried in anti-terrorism courts and of those who attacked military installations, would face cases in military courts.
Imran Niazi was the mastermind of the mayhem that led to incident of May 9 and thugs associated to him burnt military installations and desecrated monuments of the martyrs, he continued.
He said the hostility of Imran Niazi towards Pakistan was exposed, adding a conspiracy was hatched and Nawaz Sharif was sentenced in false cases to oust him from politics.

Now all that conspiracy was unearthed and the mastermind of the conspiracy was former judge Saqib Nisar, he said while reiterating that name of Nawaz Sharif was not among the 400 persons mentioned in the Panama Papers but he was falsely convicted.

He said judges did not take suo moto notice to determine the role of Sadiq Nisar in the conspiracy against Nawaz Sharif and his party leaders who were put behind bars and were denied bails for years in fabricated cases.
He demanded that through a transparent and all encompassing process of accountability, all those who waged vendetta against Nawaz Sharif and his party and their families should be held accountable.

He said the decision to send Nawaz Sharif abroad was taken by a medical board formed by Imran Niazi. He informed that in the coming weeks, Nawaz Sharif will come back to Pakistan and face the cases against him.

He said Imran Niazi was not willing to face court in corruption cases including scams of wheat, sugar, Malam Jabba, billion tree tsunami, hydel power projects and bus project in Peshawar in which there was irrefutable evidence against him.
He Imran Niazi responsible for damaging Pakistan’s economy and its relations with friendly and brotherly countries.

He lamented that the courts delayed project of Orange Line Train for years while refusing to investigate and hold hearings in cases of Peshawar Bus Transit project.

He said there was NAB-Niazi nexus and the nexus destroyed the economy of Pakistan.

The prime minister said recent amendments to the accountability law were introduced to protect politicians, bureaucrats and officials from the misguided accountability in the future and to give them an opportunity to serve the country. He said the officers were not ready to work due to fear of NAB and the businessmen and investors had stopped making investments so the amendments in the law were necessary.

He said he and Nawaz Sharif did not resort to victimization of political opponents and they and their families also did not take advantage of the amendment in the accountability law while appearing in court cases.

To a question, he said in the past politicians and technocrats became caretakers, adding the caretaker prime minister should be impartial so that nobody could raise objection on the result of next elections.

He said according to constitution and law, it was responsibility of the Election Commission to announce date for elections. Pakistan needed national integrity and a charter of economy so it could focus its resources on economic revival and progress, he added.

Shehbaz said the Council of Common Interests would give approval to the population census. Population was a big challenge for Pakistan as huge resources were needed to give employment to millions of people and usher in economic revolution, he opined.

The previous hybrid system of governance was devastating for the country, he said adding all the institutions should work within the ambit of the constitution.

He said seat adjustment was possible in the elections with the allied parties and PML(N) had formed a committee comprising Khawaja Asif, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Ahsan Iqbal, Ayaz Sadiq and others to take decisions related to elections. He said Nawaz Sharif would be the candidate of PML(N) for the post of prime minister.

Fazlur Rehman condemns bomb blast on JUI-F convention in Bajaur

ISLAMABAD, Jul 30 (APP): Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday strongly condemned a bomb blast at a convention of JUI-F in Bajaur and expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic incident.

In a statement issued by the party’s media cell, he prayed the Allah Almighty to raise the ranks of martyrs and for speedy recovery of the injured.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman also appealed to JUI-F workers to immediately rush to hospitals and provide blood donations to the victims.

He sought an inquiry into the explosion from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

Senate adopts National Institute of Technology Bill 2023

ISLAMABAD, Jul 30 (APP): The Senate passed the National Institute of Technology Bill, 2023 on Sunday, giving the institute autonomy in academics, finance, and administration, along with the power to hire officers, teachers, and staff since 2002.

Rana Maqbool Ahmed presented the bill. According to the bill, the government-appointed auditor won’t have the authority to question the policy behind the allocation approved by the institute’s board of governors in the annual budget.

According to statements of objects and reasons, the purpose of the bill is to establish the National Institute of Technology, which aims to provide education and scholarship in various modern knowledge areas, fostering action-oriented research for societal development.

The institute will focus on cutting-edge technologies like data science and robotics, promoting academia-industry linkages to facilitate smoother transitions from education to work, especially in technology-related fields. By offering high-quality and comprehensive education, the institute aims to meet the changing needs of students in Pakistan, including student
and teacher exchanges with educational and research organizations both within and outside the country.

LARKANA, Jul 30 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday visited Kashmore-Kandhkot, Jacobabad, Sukkur and Ghotki districts on Sunday.

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah visited Kashmore-Kandhkot district to review Guddu barrage, under construction Kandhkot-Ghotki Bridge and the law and order of the entire district.
Syed Murad Ali Shah also inspected the water level at Guddu Barrage.
While briefing the Sindh Chief Minister, Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro said that the irrigation department has strengthened all the protective Bunds in Sindh.
He said that currently 4 lakh 67 thousand 457 cusecs of water is passing through Guddu barrage, there is pressure from some sides but the situation is under control, he added and further said the Irrigation Department has made better arrangements for the flood situation.

After that, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited the site of under construction Kandhkot -Ghotki Bridge on River Indus to review its work. The work is stopped due to non-receipt of NOC from NHA.
Briefing the chief minister on behalf of the administration, DC Kashmore-Kandhkot said that the length of the bridge is 15 km, which is the longest bridge to be built on the river Indus, the work of Ghotki Kandhkot bridge will be started soon.
Sindh Chief Minister directed the works & services department to speed up the work of the bridge.
Besides, The Sindh Chief Minister reached the SSP office Kashmore-Kandhkot to review the law and order situation in the district and presided over a meeting.

Talking to the media,Sindh Chief Minister said that the notorious dacoits Janu Indar and Somar Shar have been sent to hell.
He said modern weapons have been recovered from the dacoits. He also said, I am ready to provide more facilities to the police, but I want the Sindh province to be free from dacoits.
He also said the police personnel conducting operations against dacoits will be commended.
Sindh Chief Minister said that the construction of Ghotki-Kandhkot bridge will destroy the criminal elements.
He said sofar 10 people are under the control of bandits, they will be recovered soon.
He further said that the restoring law and order is our responsibility, I will consider it as my success when people here feel safe.

AJK President urges political parties to unite, promote Kashmir cause

MIRPUR(AJK), Jul 30 (APP): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry urged all political parties to stand united joining hands to promote the Kashmir cause.

He called upon all political parties within and outside AJK to stand united to promote the Kashmir cause and galvanize world support in favour of the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

The AJK President made these remarks while talking to a delegation of Jammat-i-Islami (JI) Azad Kashmir, which was led by its Amir Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Khan, at President House in Jammu Kashmir House in federal metropolis on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Chaudhry, while referring to the worsening political and human rights situation in the Indian-occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir, said that at this critical juncture of the Kashmir issue, all parties inside and outside the country should work together and redouble their efforts to resolve the issue of Kashmir and stop continued bloodshed and violence in the Occupied Kashmir.

Appreciating the Jamaat-e-Islami’s role and contribution in the ongoing freedom movement in Kashmir, the president said that the JI has always played its role to highlight the Kashmir issue in an effective and strong manner.

He said that in view of the highly volatile situation in the region, there was a dire need to apprise the international community about the importance of an early and amicable solution to the Kashmir dispute in line with the UNSC resolutions.

Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Kashmir Raja Jahangir and others were also present on this occasion.
