Pakistan earns $1,719 million from IT services’ export in 7 months

ISLAMABAD, Mar 18 (APP): Pakistan earned US $1,719.921 million by providing different Information Technology (IT) services to various countries during the first seven months of the current fiscal year 2023-24.

This shows a growth of 12.78 per cent as compared with the US $1,524.969 million earned through the provision of services during the corresponding months of the last fiscal year 2022-23, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

During the months under review, the export of computer services grew by 14.09 per cent as it surged from US $1,224.499 million last year to US $1,397.051 million during July-January 2023-24.

Among the computer services, the exports of software consultancy services witnessed an increase of 1.14 per cent, from US $3.502 million to US $3.542 million this year while the export of hardware consultancy services also surged by 4.73 per cent, from US $454.283 million to US $475.783 million.

The export of repair and maintenance services however decreased by 12.17 per cent from US $1.594 million to US $1.400 million whereas the export and imports of computer software services surged by 2.71 per cent, from $349.635 million to $359.094 million.

Meanwhile, the export of information services during the months under review dipped by 19.62 per cent from US $2.600 million to US $2.090 million.

Among the information services, the exports of information-related services increased by 1.99 per cent, from US $0.804 million to US $0.820 million whereas the exports of news agency services however decreased by 29.29 per cent, from US $1.796 million to US $1.270 million.

The export of telecommunication services increased by 7.69 per cent as these went up from US $297.870 million to US $320.780 million, the data revealed.

Among the telecommunication services, the export of call centres services increased by 18.95 per cent during the months as its exports increased from US $121.349 million to US $144.350 million whereas the export of other telecommunication services witnessed a decrease of 0.05 per cent, from US $176.521 million to US $176.430 million during this year, the PBS data revealed.

KSA to establish a state-of-the-art skill university in Pakistan to meet skilled workers demand

ISLAMABAD, Mar 18 (APP): Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development recently has planned to propose the dedication of a special quota for Pakistani skilled and semi-skilled workers for NEOM and other upcoming projects.

Additionally, a proposal for Saudi Arabia to establish a state-of-the-art Skill University in Pakistan further aligns the two nations in their pursuit of economic transformation, an official source told APP.

He said that collaboration in the training of Pakistani workers to meet the rising needs of the Saudi labor market and enhance their skills and capabilities were also key points of discussion.

The Ministry has proposed collaborative efforts between the Embassy of KSA in Islamabad, the Consulate General (CG) Karachi, and Pakistani authorities to facilitate the entry of new Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs) into the Saudi sector.

The high-level delegation visit aims to align Pakistan’s workforce with Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation program under Vision 2030, fostering a strong partnership for mutual benefit.

The visit aims to enhance crucial remittances, contributing to the stability of Pakistan’s economy and supporting the economic well-being of families that rely solely on these financial inflows.

Which was aimed at fostering collaboration and exploring employment opportunities for the Pakistani workforce in the Kingdom.

Minister commits to implement health System improvement roadmap

LAHORE, Mar 18 (APP): Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has pledged to achieve a hundred per cent implementation of the health system improvement road map outlined by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Chairing a crucial meeting of the Department of Specialized Health Care and Medical Education on Monday, he emphasized the commitment of the health department towards enhancing healthcare services across the province.
He said that under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a new era of prioritizing public health has commenced, with a focus on serving the people effectively.
The minister said that Secretary Health Punjab Ali Jan Khan and his dedicated team were tirelessly working towards the betterment of the health system.
He asked the health management to provide superior medical facilities to the patients visiting government hospitals.
The minister directed to improve waste management systems in government hospitals and ordered the timely completion of ongoing developmental projects aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure.
During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the conditions of government hospitals was conducted, with Secretary Health Punjab Ali Jan Khan and other officials providing detailed briefings on the matter.
Prominent attendees included Special Secretaries Syed Wajid Ali Shah and Raja Mansoor Ahmed, Additional Secretaries Zahida Azhar, Agha Nabeel, and Dr. Hafiz Shahid Latif, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, along with various officers from the Primary and Secondary Health Care Department participated.

 

ANF recovers 2600 kg drugs in 11 operations

RAWALPINDI, Mar 18 (APP): Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting 11 operations managed to recover over 2600 kg drugs and arrested 11 accused, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Monday.
He informed that 1.5 kg heroin and 175 grams diazepam powder were recovered from the possession of three accused arrested at Lahore Airport.
918 grams Ice was recovered from a passenger going to Doha at Peshawar Airport and one metric ton hashish was recovered from an area near Chaman Road Quetta.
In another operation, 1300 kg hashish was recovered from Qilla Abdullah.
120 kg Ice and 30 kg opium were recovered from Bonstan Panjgur area.
In 8th operation, 49.2 kg hashish and 34.8 kg opium were recovered from two suspects rounded up near Motorway Toll Plaza Sheikhupura.
50.4 kg hashish was recovered from two suspects netted from Islamabad Motorway.
He informed that in 10th operation, 11 kg hashish was recovered from Zakhakhel Khyber and in 11th operation, 2.5 kg heroin was recovered from the possession of three suspects nabbed near G.T Road Lahore.
Cases under the Anti-Narcotics Act have been registered against the arrested accused while further investigations are under process.

Youth drowned

SARGODHA, Mar 18 (APP): A youth drowned in River Jhelum here in the jurisdiction of Khushab police station on Monday.
Police spokesperson said that Muhammad Arslan(19) was taking bath in the river when he went into deep water and drowned.
Rescue 1122 fished out the body and shifted to the DHQ Khushab hospital.

Spices’ factory sealed

FAISALABAD, Mar 18 (APP):Jhang Bazaar police sealed a spices’ factory on the charge of producing spurious items and registered a case against its owner.
Police spokesman said here on Monday that a team of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on a tip-off conducted raid in Baowala where a citizen Sami Ullah was preparing spurious items of various spices.
The PFA confiscated heavy material from the spot while the police started investigation after sealing the factory and registering a case against its owner, he added.

Scrutiny of documents for Senate polls to be finalized by Mar 19

PESHAWAR, Mar 18 (APP): The scrutiny of documents for Senate election had started and would be finalized by March 19, said the spokesman of provincial election commission.

Appeals against acceptance and rejection of papers can be filed till March 21 while a decision on the appeals would be taken by March 25.

The revised list would be released on March 26 and candidates would be able to withdraw their nomination papers till March 27.

The spokesman said that so far 42 candidates have submitted papers including 25 for general seats, seven for women and 10 for technocrats
