Police Rescue Four Abducted Individuals in Sindh Punjab Border Operation

SUKKUR, Dec 19 (APP):In a major breakthrough, DIG Sukkur Range Captain (Retired) Faisal Abdullah Chachar on Friday led operation against dacoits on the Sindh-Punjab border resulted in the safe rescue of four abducted individuals.
The abductees, from Punjab, were kidnapped and held for ransom, with a video circulating on social media. Police tracked them using forensic techniques, including scent dogs.
The operation, under DIG Sukkur’s supervision, involved SSP Ghotki Anwar Khattak, Punjab Police, DPO Rajanpur, SSP Kashmore, and Sindh Rangers.
The campaign against dacoits will continue until they’re neutralized.

Shipping Activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Dec 19 (APP):Shipping activity was report at the port where four ships, MSC New Haven, Torm Integrity and Salt Wind Explorer carrying Container, Gasoline and Coal, berthed at Qasim International Container Terminal, FOTCO oil Terminal and Marginal Wharf-4 Terminal respectively during last 24 hours.
    Meanwhile two more ships, Aqua Spirit and Scarlet Ray carrying LPG and Chemicals also arrived at outer anchorage during last 24 hours.
    A total of ten ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them four ships, MSC New Haven, BBC Fuji, Bochem Buceohalas and Al-Thakhira left the port on today morning, while anot her edible oil carrier ‘TG Virgo’ expected to sail on today.
    Cargo volume of 107,913 tonnes, comprising 69,068 tonnes imports cargo and 38,845 export cargo carried in 2,008 Containers (149 TEUs Imports & 1,859 TEUs Export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.
    There are 11 ships at Outer Anchorage of the Port Qasim, out of them five ships, MSC Long Beach, Lapis Lazuli, Falcon Majestic, Aqua Spirit and Ullswater & another bulk cargo carrier ‘Vmic Bright’ scheduled to load/offload Container, Rice, Palm oil and LPG are expected to take berths at QICT, MW-1, LCT, SSGC and EVTL on today.

Pakistan, Portugal Step Up Cooperation on Youth Jobs, Labour Mobility

ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (APP):Chairman Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan on Thursday held a high-level meeting with H.E. Manuel Frederico Pinheiro da Silva, Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, at the Embassy of Portugal in Islamabad, to advance Pakistan–Portugal cooperation on youth employment, overseas labour mobility, skills development, and trade, with a shared focus on creating safe, legal and sustainable opportunities for young people.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral collaboration in productive employment and overseas workforce engagement, particularly aimed at empowering youth through structured labour mobility frameworks.
 Both sides exchanged views on facilitating mutually beneficial employment pathways, skills recognition, and workforce development initiatives to meet evolving market demands.
Chairman Rana Mashhood emphasized the Government of Pakistan’s strong commitment to deepening relations with Portugal, both at the bilateral level and within the broader European Union framework.
The two sides reaffirmed their shared resolve to work together at multilateral forums in support of global peace, prosperity, and stability.
Recalling the longstanding friendship between the two countries, the meeting noted that Pakistan and Portugal established diplomatic relations on November 7, 1949, and have enjoyed cordial and friendly ties for more than 75 years.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the steady progress in bilateral engagement and agreed to further expand cooperation across diverse sectors.
On trade and investment, it was noted that bilateral trade reached USD 221 million in 2024, reflecting a positive upward trend. While welcoming this growth, both sides acknowledged the significant untapped potential for expansion.
Special emphasis was placed on enhancing cooperation in the information technology sector, where collaboration between Pakistani and Portuguese firms could generate mutual gains.
Pakistan highlighted its population of 241 million, with nearly 60 percent under the age of 30, and a growing base of skilled IT professionals, including strong participation by women.
Labour mobility and human resource development were identified as priority areas for enhanced cooperation. Chairman PMYP highlighted Pakistan’s vast pool of skilled and semi-skilled manpower and stressed the importance of concluding an Agreement on Labour Mobility Partnership to establish a legal and institutional framework for structured cooperation.
Reference was made to the draft agreement proposed by Pakistan in June 2022, with the hope expressed for an early response from the Portuguese side.
Highlighting the government’s youth-focused agenda, Chairman Rana Mashhood briefed the Ambassador on key initiatives under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, including the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Programme, Youth Laptop Scheme, Youth Business, Agriculture and Loan Scheme, National Innovation Award, National Volunteer Corps, Digital Youth Hub, Youth Talent Hunt and Sports League, and the Green Youth Movement.
He also highlighted the National Employment Policy as a landmark initiative aimed at creating sustainable jobs, empowering youth and women, and aligning skills with market needs, with a target to increase female labour force participation to 35 percent.
Overseas employment was discussed as a vital avenue for Pakistani youth to gain international exposure, higher incomes, and advanced skills.
Both sides explored avenues to facilitate safe, legal and mutually beneficial overseas employment, while emphasizing the importance of joint efforts to safeguard the rights and welfare of Pakistani workers abroad.
The meeting also acknowledged the growing Pakistani community in Portugal as a strong bridge for people-to-people relations. According to official Portuguese data, approximately 54,318 Pakistani nationals or persons of Pakistani origin currently reside in Portugal.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen Pakistan–Portugal relations, enhance youth-centered cooperation, and maintain constructive engagement to unlock new opportunities for collaboration in the years ahead.

Police arrested 108 criminals including 50 POs during last five days

SARGODHA, Dec 19 (APP):Sargodha police arrested 108 criminals,including 50 proclaimed offenders(PO),in the last five days,following directives from DPO Muhammad Suhaib Ashraf.
According to police spokesperson,teams conducted 44 crackdowns across the district,apprehending criminals from various areas, including Shah Nikdur,Silnawali and Sahiwal.
The arrested offenders included Sikandar,Saleem and Imran and others.
Police authorities recovered 5-kg of charas,3-kg of opium,315 liters of liquor and valuables worth millions of rupees.
Further investigations was underway.

ADB reaffirms support for Pakistan Railways’ ML-1 upgrade

ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (APP):A delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Director General Leah Gutierrez, called on Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Friday to review progress on the upgradation of Main Line- I(ML-I), Pakistan Railways’ most critical infrastructure project.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the scope, financing and implementation strategy of the ML-I upgradation, said a news release.
The officials briefed the meeting that ML-I serves as the backbone of Pakistan Railways, facilitating nearly 80 percent of passenger traffic and about 90 percent of freight movement across the country.
Given the current condition of the railway infrastructure, participants emphasized the urgent need for upgrading ML-I to ensure safe, efficient and reliable rail operations.
The project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, reduce travel time and strengthen Pakistan’s logistics and trade capacity.
Hanif Abbasi said ML-I as a key project for the national economy, stating that its modernization would play a vital role in promoting economic growth, regional connectivity and sustainable transport.
The ADB delegation reaffirmed its continued cooperation and confidence in the progress of the ML-I project and expressed commitment to supporting Pakistan Railways in its reform and modernization efforts.
Both sides also agreed that the ground-breaking ceremony of the ML-I Karachi-to-Rohri section would be held in July 2026, marking a major milestone in the execution of the project.

ICT Police gun down and nab Nedo gang ringleader, three dacoits put behind bars

ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police arrested three armed members of the notorious inter-provincial Nedo gang, including its ringleader, after an exchange of fire in the limits of Tarnol Police Station.
An official told APP on Friday that a police raiding team conducted an operation after receiving intelligence about the presence of the gang in the area. On spotting the police, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire on the raiding team.
During the exchange, the gang’s ringleader Naveed Zafar was injured by firing from his own accomplices and was arrested in an injured condition. Due to protective measures and the use of bulletproof jackets, the police team remained safe.
The official said Naveed Zafar was a previously convicted inter-provincial robber, wanted by police in Islamabad and various districts of Punjab in multiple cases of shop robberies, highway robberies, bike snatching and house robberies.
Following the arrest of the ringleader, police traced and arrested the other two gang members, Naeem and Abubakar, using technical and intelligence-based methods.
During the operation, police recovered illegal weapons and a motorcycle used in the crimes. A large cache of looted items was also seized, including snatched purses, cash, vehicle registration books, smart cards, mobile phones and cameras.
The arrested suspects also made disclosures about their involvement in other criminal activities, the official added, saying that further investigation was under way to recover additional stolen property and identify more accomplices.
Islamabad Police reaffirmed their resolve to continue indiscriminate action against criminal gangs to ensure the safety of citizens and maintain law and order in the federal capital.

Five profiteers held

SARGODHA, Dec 19 (APP):Five shopkeepers were booked accused of profiteering from various parts of the city,here on Friday.
According to official sources,the price control magistrates inspected various points of the city and arrested five shopkeepers including Gulzar,Naveed,Javed,Safdar and Faisal for overcharging and imposed hefty fines.
Cases were registered against them.

Technology festival ” Robo Fiesta” concluded at HITEC University, Taxila

Man electrocuted

SARGODHA, Dec 19 (APP):A man electrocuted while repairing a water pump in the Bhabhra under the jurisdiction of Kotmomin police station area on Friday.
According to police,Naeem(43) was working on the pump when he received a fatal electric shock from an exposed wire.He died on the spot.
Further investigation was underway.
