Pak women to meet Indian counterparts in Asia Cup on July 21

LAHORE, Mar 26 (APP):Pakistan Women cricket team will face off the Indian Women team in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 on July 21 in Dambulla, Sri Lanka.
According to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the  upcoming Women’s Asia Cup 2024 is scheduled to take place in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, from July 19th to July 28th, 2024.
This edition of the tournament will feature eight teams, one more than the previous edition in 2022, indicating the growing interest and participation in women’s cricket across Asia.
The Pakistan Women will meet Nepal on the opening day on July 19 and play their last group match against UAE on July 23. Both the semifinals will be played on July 26 and final on July 28.
Pakistan Women have been placed in Group A along side India, Nepal and UAE cricket teams while Group B consists of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Thailand.
The increased participation promises to make this tournament even more competitive and thrilling for cricket fans across the region.
In line with the ACC’s vision for inclusivity and equality in cricket, the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 will continue the tradition of having all female referees and umpires, following the successful implementation of the same in the previous edition.
The ACC President Jay Shah believes the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 underscores the ACC’s commitment to promoting women’s cricket in the region.
He said expansion of the Women’s Asia Cup, from six teams in 2018 to seven in 2022, and now eight, is a testament to our commitment to the women’s game and the burgeoning talent pool in Asian cricket.
He anticipated an exciting tournament that will inspire both players and fans.

CSCEC Chairman calls on Punjab CM

LAHORE, Mar 26 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that Pakistan and China have maintained closest and strongest friendship, but there is still a lot of room for improvement in economic ties.
In a meeting with China State Construction Engineering Corporation’s (CSCEC) Chairman Mr. Wang Yaobong here, she added, there are numerous opportunities for collaboration and ‘we will welcome China’s cooperation in agriculture, IT and environmental protection.’
She appreciated and said, the CSCEC projects in Pakistan demonstrate construction quality and professionalism, asserting, “I am grateful to China State Construction Engineering Corporation for undertaking construction projects in Punjab like Arfa Karim IT Tower in Lahore.”
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that China’s one-window operation system for investment promotion is the best model worldwide.” The CPEC is China’s gift to Pakistan and the Punjab government would fully cooperate for the timely completion of CPEC projects, she assured.
The Punjab Chief Minister said, “Sectors have to be identified in which Pakistan’s exports can be increased. CPEC projects will create more employment opportunities.”
On this occasion, Mr Wang Yaodong said, “Doors are open for friends, Pakistani friends will be warmly welcomed.”
Vice Chairman CSCEC Umar Farooq Dayal, Li Weimin and other officers concerned also attended the meeting.

CDA reconstitutes inspection team to ensure transparency in Islamabad Housing Schemes

ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): In a bid to enhance transparency and ensure the legitimacy of housing schemes in Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has reconstituted an Inspection Committee tasked with verifying the physical aspects of these projects.
The decision was made during the meeting of the CDA Board, said a senior official on Tuesday.
The reconstitution of the committee comes as a response to the need for thorough verification of housing schemes in the capital city.
Recognizing the importance of this task, the CDA Board approved the composition of the Inspection Committee, which will be chaired by the Member Engineering of the CDA.
The five-member committee comprises officials from various departments within the CDA, including the Director of Building Control, the Cost Accountant from the Finance Department, the Deputy Director of Land Survey, and a Town Planner who will serve as the Member-cum-Secretary of the committee.
A key directive from the CDA Board is for the committee to conduct physical and ground verifications of the housing schemes within a strict timeline of one month.
This mandate underscores the urgency and importance of the verification process, aiming to uphold transparency, efficacy, and clarity in the functioning of these housing projects

HC train 100 journalists on climate journalism

ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): Over 100 journalists from 35 media outlets and research organizations participated in a practical training from the British High Commission on climate journalism.
Journalists gained in-depth knowledge on complex climate change and nature protection issues, discussed how journalism is at the frontlines of climate change, explored how to find real climate stories on the ground and practised telling climate stories, said a news release.
They discussed challenges that can exist around climate journalism, how to centre women and girls in climate stories, and made commitments to tell climate stories in future.

The journalists reflected on the importance of finding and telling stories of community action related to climate change going out to the field in search of climate stories.
They discussed how climate journalism can both help people to understand the impact climate change has on them, and inspire them to take action.
Speaking on the occasion, British High Commission Development Director Jo Moir said: “We’re delighted to bring together journalists to discuss the critical issue of climate change and biodiversity loss. Journalists play a pivotal role in helping Pakistani people understand how climate change affects them. They can single handedly change perceptions and inspire change.”

Chief Guest at the event, Seemi Ezdi former Chairperson of the upper house committee on climate change said “Climate change is the defining issue of our time. We can either be the generation that let it happen, or the one that took bold steps to stop it. Climate change is not just a distant threat, but a present reality demanding urgent action.”
