ANF Academy organizes workshop on anti money laundering, counter financing of terrorism

RAWALPINDI, Mar 27 (APP):Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) Academy here on Wednesday organized a three-day Workshop/Seminar on Anti Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism.
53 Investigation Officers and Public Prosecutors from ANF and sister law enforcement agencies benefited from the Workshop/Seminar.
Chief Instructor ANF Academy Sahib Khan highlighted the importance of the workshop.
The experts from relevant stakeholders on Anti Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism, including Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), FATF Secretariat and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Islamabad were invited as guest speakers.
Honorable Commandant, ANF Academy Brigadier Ghazi Kamal Kiani graced the closing ceremony on the final day of the workshop/seminar.
Commandant ANF Academy appreciated the earnest efforts of ANF Academy to provide a platform for capacity building on money laundering and terrorism financing related issues relevant to various stake holders.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts at policy, procedural and operational level to fulfill the requirements of FATF.
He underscored the importance of ANF as a vital link in “National Integrated Approach” being a key member of various national forums on money laundering and terrorism financing. As the task is multi sectoral endeavor, ANF is actively engaged with all stakeholders namely MoI, NACTA, FATF Secretariat, FMU, Police, FIA, NAB, CTD and FBR for information sharing, cooperation and provision of data through a desk involving a dedicated focal person.
ANF Academy strives to remain at the forefront of holding specialized courses and workshops for capacity building that in turn, feeds into the national efforts against money laundering and terrorism financing, he added.
The Commandant stressed the need for continuous capacity building of investigation officers and prosecutors to better deal with the dynamics of assets investigation including financial intelligence to undertake proactive pursuance of assets investigation and money laundering cases.

CM orders policy formulation to export buffalo meat, milk to China

LAHORE, Mar 27 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, during a meeting on the Livestock Department, reviewed the livestock related measures and ordered to formulate a policy to export buffalo milk and meat to China.
The CM said only vaccinated and tagged cattle would be brought to cattle markets and slaughterhouses, adding that authentic data of cattle should be prepared and regularly updated. She directed the authorities concerned to pay special attention to research and development.
Maryam Nawaz was briefed about the export potential of livestock sector. She said more work was needed for disease control and breed improvement. She ordered to create disease control department in Punjab. She said the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) control programme should be made more effective, adding that vaccination for the disease should be produced locally in large quantities. An advanced mechanism must be created to increase the export of dairy products, she ordered.
The authorities concerned apprised the CM that up-gradation of vaccine production labs would cost Rs 360 million, and up-gradation of zoonosis centre would cost Rs 299 million. It was also briefed that the breed improvement could increase yield by up to 15-25 per cent.
Earlier, the chief minister was apprised that livestock accounts for 14.36 per cent of country’s GDP. Punjab produces country’s 62 per cent milk, 43 per cent meat, 33 per cent mutton, and 65 per cent poultry meat.
The CM was also briefed that China imports $17 billion worth of meat and $2 billion worth of milk. The CM ordered to present a report on volume of poultry trade with Gulf countries and China. The CM agreed to a proposal to provide motorbikes for veterinary doctors, and vans for mobile dispensaries.
Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari, Provincial Agriculture Minister Muhammad Ashiq Hussain, Former Senator Pervaiz  Rashid, MPA Sania Ashiq, chief secretary, P&D chairman, secretaries Finance, Livestock & Dairy Development and other officers attended the meeting.

Chairman WAPDA visits Dasu Project to express solidarity with Chinese

ISLAMABAD, Mar 27 (APP): Chairman WAPDA, Engineer Lieutenant General Sajjad Ghani (Retired), visited the Dasu Hydropower Project on Wednesday to express solidarity with the Chinese engineers and workers serving at the project
He visited there after a terrorist attack near Besham in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing five Chinese and a local on their way to Dasu Hydropower Project site from Islamabad the other day, said a news release.
China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong together with Chairman Ghani spent time with Chinese workforce at the project site.
At the Construction Camp of China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC) – Contractor of Dasu Hydropower Project – the Chairman condemning the tragic incident, offered condolence on behalf of WAPDA over the loss of lives.
“Our sympathies are with the bereaved families in this time of trial. The law enforcement agencies are vehemently investigating the terrorist incident, and we hope the culprits found involved in it, will soon be brought to justice. WAPDA is in close coordination with the quarters concerned to further beef up the security arrangements in order to avoid such untoward incident in future” he said.
Chairman WAPDA lauded the Chinese firms for their contribution in implementing the projects – that of water and hydropower in particular – crucial for development of Pakistan. The leading Chinese firms are engaged in constructing a number of WAPDA projects including Dasu, destined to provide much needed water and low cost energy for economic stability and social uplift in the country.
“We are confident that such cowardly attacks by the enemies of Pak-China friendship are undoubtedly bound to fail in derailing the mutual cooperation meant for stability and progress of Pakistan” the Chairman further said.

Planning minister condemns terrorist attack on Chinese nationals

ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday strongly condemned a terrorist attack on Chinese nationals in Bisham, expressing deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
The minister said this heinous act, perpetrated by the enemies of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), was aimed at disrupting cooperation between the two nations but would fail.
“We have unwavering commitment to providing security to all Chinese officials and workers involved in CPEC projects,” he vowed.
Ahsan Iqbal said this attack only strengthened Pakistan’s resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice, intensify security measures and fortify partnership with China.
“Together, as all-weather iron brothers, we will overcome these challenges, and our shared vision for prosperity through CPEC shall grow stronger,” he remarked.

Sepoy Nouman’s funeral prayer held at FC Headquarters

RAWALPINDI, Mar 26 (APP): The funeral prayer of Sepoy Nouman Farid (age 24, resident of Muzaffargarh) who was martyred in the terrorist attack on Pakistan Naval Base, PNS Siddique in Turbat, was offered at Headquarters Frontier Corps, Balochistan, Turbat.

The martyr would be buried in his native area with full military honours, an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said.

Senior officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army participated in the funeral prayer of the martyr, it said.

“These sacrifices of our martyrs strengthen our resolve against terrorism and our love for motherland,” the ISPR said.

NDMA cautions masses amid heavy rainfall forecast, landslide risk

ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday issued an advisory to caution general public to remain vigilant amid heavy rainfall forecast and impending risk of landslide due to the inclement weather.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a series of westerly winds would enter the western parts of the country on March 27th and cover the upper and central parts on March 28th, which would cause rain in the upper and central regions of the country till March 31st. However, due to rains there was a possibility of decrease in temperature, the news release said.

It added that landslides risk was also looming in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan due to heavy rain on March 29th and 30th.

“There is a risk of damage to standing crops, weak infrastructure (electricity poles, vehicles, solar panels, etc.) due to wind/sleet/hail/thunder and heavy rain,” the NDMA said.

The farmers should be careful during wind and rain, whereas the authorities concerned should take weather awareness measures to ensure the safety of tourists and travelers.

The tourists should plan their trip keeping in mind the climatic conditions of the hilly areas.

NDMA is launching a mobile application soon to provide early warning of potential disasters and safety measures to the public.

Ministers discuss mutual interests in commerce, industry

The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two ministries for the advancement of commerce and industry in the country.
