Chairman WAPDA visits Dasu Project to express solidarity with Chinese
ISLAMABAD, Mar 27 (APP): Chairman WAPDA, Engineer Lieutenant General Sajjad Ghani (Retired), visited the Dasu Hydropower Project on Wednesday to express solidarity with the Chinese engineers and workers serving at the project
He visited there after a terrorist attack near Besham in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing five Chinese and a local on their way to Dasu Hydropower Project site from Islamabad the other day, said a news release.
China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong together with Chairman Ghani spent time with Chinese workforce at the project site.
At the Construction Camp of China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC) – Contractor of Dasu Hydropower Project – the Chairman condemning the tragic incident, offered condolence on behalf of WAPDA over the loss of lives.
“Our sympathies are with the bereaved families in this time of trial. The law enforcement agencies are vehemently investigating the terrorist incident, and we hope the culprits found involved in it, will soon be brought to justice. WAPDA is in close coordination with the quarters concerned to further beef up the security arrangements in order to avoid such untoward incident in future” he said.
Chairman WAPDA lauded the Chinese firms for their contribution in implementing the projects – that of water and hydropower in particular – crucial for development of Pakistan. The leading Chinese firms are engaged in constructing a number of WAPDA projects including Dasu, destined to provide much needed water and low cost energy for economic stability and social uplift in the country.
“We are confident that such cowardly attacks by the enemies of Pak-China friendship are undoubtedly bound to fail in derailing the mutual cooperation meant for stability and progress of Pakistan” the Chairman further said.

Sepoy Nouman’s funeral prayer held at FC Headquarters
RAWALPINDI, Mar 26 (APP): The funeral prayer of Sepoy Nouman Farid (age 24, resident of Muzaffargarh) who was martyred in the terrorist attack on Pakistan Naval Base, PNS Siddique in Turbat, was offered at Headquarters Frontier Corps, Balochistan, Turbat.
The martyr would be buried in his native area with full military honours, an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said.
Senior officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army participated in the funeral prayer of the martyr, it said.
“These sacrifices of our martyrs strengthen our resolve against terrorism and our love for motherland,” the ISPR said.

NDMA cautions masses amid heavy rainfall forecast, landslide risk
ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday issued an advisory to caution general public to remain vigilant amid heavy rainfall forecast and impending risk of landslide due to the inclement weather.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a series of westerly winds would enter the western parts of the country on March 27th and cover the upper and central parts on March 28th, which would cause rain in the upper and central regions of the country till March 31st. However, due to rains there was a possibility of decrease in temperature, the news release said.
It added that landslides risk was also looming in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan due to heavy rain on March 29th and 30th.
“There is a risk of damage to standing crops, weak infrastructure (electricity poles, vehicles, solar panels, etc.) due to wind/sleet/hail/thunder and heavy rain,” the NDMA said.
The farmers should be careful during wind and rain, whereas the authorities concerned should take weather awareness measures to ensure the safety of tourists and travelers.
The tourists should plan their trip keeping in mind the climatic conditions of the hilly areas.
NDMA is launching a mobile application soon to provide early warning of potential disasters and safety measures to the public.
Ministers discuss mutual interests in commerce, industry
ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the office of Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan and discussed matters of mutual interest.
The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two ministries for the advancement of commerce and industry in the country. Senator Dr. Aslam Abro, MPA Asim Kurd Gello and Malik Sher Yar Awan, were also present in the meeting, said a press release issued here.
During the meeting, both ministers exchanged views on various aspects related to their respective portfolios.
