KSrelief distributes 625 food baskets in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Mar 27 (APP): Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) distributed 625 food baskets in Rahim Yar Khan district in Punjab province, SPA reported on Wednesday.
The assistant programme benefiting 4,375 individuals from the most vulnerable and needy groups in flood-affected areas, as part of the Food Security Support Project in Pakistan.
This comes within the framework of a series of relief and humanitarian projects implemented by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through KSrelief, to help the needy and affected wherever they are to alleviate their suffering.

Ahsan discusses cooperation in export-oriented production with Turkish envoy

ISLAMABAD, Mar 27 (APP): Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal discussed matters related to bilateral interests including cooperation in the field of export-oriented industrial production with the Turkish ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Mehmet Pacaci.
The discussion took place during a visit by the Turkish envoy to the minister’s office, after he congratulated Ahsan Iqbal on assuming charge of the ministry, a news release said on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the minister shared that Pakistan and Turkiye should explore areas where both countries could benefit from each other’s strengths, including joint production of export items to third countries, as well as cultural cooperation in arts and media.
He urged the idea of seeking Turkish assistance to set up an industry in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) for exporting items to Europe. Since labor costs in Pakistan were cheaper than in Turkiye, he said, such a joint venture would benefit both countries.
Pakistan and Turkiye have a long history of warm friendship, and both countries have stood by each other during disasters, such as floods and earthquakes.
The minister appreciated the support extended by Turkiye to Pakistan during the floods of 2022.
Reciprocating, the Turkish ambassador also acknowledged the support of Pakistan during the earthquake which damaged 11 provinces in Turkey, resulting in more than 50,000 deaths.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 27 (APP): Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Dr Raza Amiri Moghaddam paid a courtesy visit to Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof Ahsan Iqbal and congratulated him on assuming the office.

During the meeting, potential areas of cooperation for the upcoming visit of Iran’s President to Pakistan came under discussion, a Planning Ministry news release said on Wednesday.

Minister Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the historical ties between Pakistan and Iran and emphasized the importance of enhancing connectivity through trade routes, considering the 900-kilometer shared land and maritime border.

He urged the need for effective road-rail transit routes to boost economic cooperation, aiming to increase the current $2.5 billion trade volume between the two countries manifold.

Acknowledging Iran’s energy as a vital resource, the minister proposed leveraging it to alleviate Pakistan’s energy crises, particularly considering the cost-effectiveness of Iranian energy resources.

He also advocated reviving the cargo train service between Pakistan, Iran and Turkey initiated in 2009 under the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The ambassador commended the strategic significance of Chabahar, Gwadar and Karachi ports for trade and expressed Iran’s commitment to connecting Chabahar port with the Zahidan railway network, potentially extending connectivity to Russia and Central Asia countries.

The Gabd-Rimdan border crossing was identified as a more viable option than Quetta-Taftan, given its proximity to Gwadar and Chabahar.

Ahsan Iqbal proposed adopting Iran’s vocational and technical training mechanism to empower unemployed youth in Balochistan.

During the meeting, both sides agreed that strengthened bilateral ties could contribute to reducing tendencies of terrorism and extremism in the region.

Prayer meeting held to pay homage to Mirwaiz Yousaf Shah

RAWALPINDI, Mar 27 (APP): All-Parties Hurriyat Conference(APHC) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan on Wednesday organized a prayer meeting to pay homage to the former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Mirwaiz Yusuf Shah and Advocate Jalil Andrabi. According to a statement issued here, the meeting was presided over by the APHC convener Mehmood Ahmed Sagar.
Speaking on the occasion,Mahmood Ahmed Sagar said that Mirwaiz Kashmir had made a great achievement in translation and interpretation of the Holy Quran in the Kashmiri language, which would be remembered till the end of the world.
Appreciating the sacrifices of human rights activist, Advocate Jalil Andrabi on his death anniversary, he said that the brutal killing of Andrabi was imprinted in the hearts of Kashmiris and the Kashmiri people can never forget him.
Well-known Kashmiri human rights activist and senior lawyer, Advocate Jalil Andrabi’s family was deprived of justice despite the passage of 28 years,he said and added that   “Jalil Andrabi was arrested by Major Avtar Singh of 35 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army on March 8, 1996 and his body was recovered three weeks later on March 27, 1996, from the river Jhelum near Padshahi Bagh in Srinagar.
Indian soldiers martyred Jalil Andrabi for exposing human rights violations in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and he used to criticize the crimes of Indian soldiers in the region until the last day.”
Muhammad Sagar reiterated his commitment to continue his mission till the independence of Kashmir and appealed to the famous human rights protection organizations of the world, especially Amnesty International, Isha Watch and the United Nations Human Rights Commission, to take serious notice of the worst violations of human rights by the Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the international community to increase pressure on India to stop serious violations of human rights in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
On the occasion, Mirwaiz Maulvi Yusuf Shah, Advocate Jalil Andrabi, Ashfaq Majeed Wani, Dr. Abdullah Gauro, Basheer Siddiqui and other martyrs of Kashmir were prayed for elevation while Altaf Hussain Wani, Sheikh Abdulmatin, Muhammad Rafiq Dar, Sanawala Dar, Imtiaz Wani, Sheikh Muhammad Yaqub, Nasar Mirza, Advocate Parvez Ahmed, Sheikh Abdul Majid, Muhammad Ashraf Dar, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, Gulshan Ahmed, Mian Muzaffar. WIC digital silk road development forum to be held in Xi’an, China

BEIJING, March 27 (APP): The World Internet Conference (WIC) Organization, together with Shaanxi provincial government, will host the Digital Silk Road Development Forum on April 16in Xi’an, China.
The basic information, preparatory work and highlights of the upcoming forum were introduced at a press conference held here on Wednesday which was presided over by Liang Hao, executive deputy secretary-general of the WIC.
Ren Xianliang, secretary-general of the WIC; Sun Daguang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shaanxi Provincial Committee; and Yao Lijun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Xi’an Municipal Committee, attended the press conference and took media questions.
Ren said that Xi’an is the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, which also serves as an important node connecting the East and the West.
The China (Shaanxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone has seen trade partners from more than 200 countries and regions around the world, and has become an important hub for cross-border e-commerce, he noted.
The WIC Digital Silk Road Development Forum, to be hosted by the WIC and organized by the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province, is the first thematic event of the WIC with a focus on digital Silk Road. Themed on “Connectivity and Shared Prosperity”, the forum will hold extensive discussions on the following three topics: “Digital Connectivity and Cooperation in Building the Silk Road”, “Silk Road E-commerce International Cooperation”, and “Digital Villages and Sustainable Development”.
It will serve as an international communication platform for countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative to improve infrastructure, develop the digital economy, and bridge the digital divide.
As international, professional and representative as other WIC events, the forum will focus on digital infrastructure and capacity building, digital cultural exchanges, cooperation in cross-border e-commerce, digital technology empowering agricultural production, and improving rural governance, and invite high-level representatives from international organizations, governments, major enterprises and industry associations, as well as experts and scholars for discussions.
Confirmed participants include high-level representatives from international organizations such as the GSMA, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as those from WIC members including the Micron Technology, Qualcomm, Intel, Nokia, SAP, the ZTE Corporation, Pinduoduo, Alibaba Group, Pingan Group, and Lenovo.
In addition to the WIC Member Representative Symposium, the forum will also feature the launch of the WIC digital institute project and the digital Silk Road cross-border e-commerce seminar, in order to integrate high-standard resources to cultivate digital talents.
The WIC Working Group on Cross-Border E-commerce will also hold a symposium to evaluate cross-border e-commerce competitiveness and unveil the report of practice cases, so as to share the practical experience for the innovative development of the industry and overseas promotion of related brands.

CM approves field hospital, clinic-on-wheels project

LAHORE, Mar 27 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has decided to launch a field hospital and clinic-on-wheels project under the revolutionary programme soon.
She presided over the 5th meeting on health reforms in a span of one month here on Wednesday in which approval to such an important project was granted, along with reconstituting health system and reviewing ongoing health projects.
The CM also accorded approval to undertaking revamping of the rural and basic health centres across Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz directed not to delay issuance of funds required to undertake revamping of the projects and ordered to immediately issue Rs.16 billion to undertake upgradation of the hospitals.
She underscored that bringing improvements and reforms in the health sector is foremost priority, adding that if any issue arises in the health sector development projects then it should be apprised to her immediately.
“we would ensure provision of quality health facilities at any cost” she said. Where BHUs, RHCs are not available then field hospitals should be available in such areas. Ultrasound, laboratory test, medicines, initial medical check-up, examination of mother & child facilities would be available in the field hospitals.
CM apprised that launching of 32 field hospitals would be undertaken next month. 200 clinic on wheels would be established for  the  residents of semi urban and katchi abadies. Doctors, LHVs and vaccinators would be available in the clinic on wheels along with ultrasound facilities.
The medicines of hepatitis, TB and cardiac ailments would be provided to the patients at their doorstep. She directed to ensure 100 percent transparency in the purchase and provision of medicines adding  that availability of doctors in every hospital should be ensured all the time. The target to establish 3 medical centers in South Punjab, Central Punjab and North Punjab has been accomplished.
CM directed to complete all the health projects within stipulated time frame adding that state of the art hospitals would be established in every district. The proposal to link children hospital of Lahore, Multan, Gujranwala and Faisalabad with the Children Medical University was agreed during the meeting.
It has been decided to undertake induction process from grade 5 to grade 15 for skilled staff in the health department hospitals after undergoing 3rd party testing. Maryam Nawaz apprised that the nurses would be sent abroad so as to  improve their skills and training adding that a transparent and merit based induction process should be formulated.
A check and balance system should be enforced on the Boards of Management in the hospitals. It was decided to reformulate Boards of Management of the hospitals and a search committee was constituted for the appointment of Vice Chancellor of Nishthar Medical University.
Approval to constitute search committee for the appointment of Vice Chancellor, MS, CEOs along with undertaking upgradation of 43 hospitals established in the jails was granted. CM  directed that there should not be any hospitals without doctors, staff, medicines and necessary medical equipments.
Secretary Health gave a comprehensive briefing about the hospitals, medicines and other affairs and apprised that 250-bed Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital Lahore would be completed in June 2026.PC-I of Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology Sargodha has been  completed and it will be completed in June 2026.
The plan to review upgradation, rehabilitation and construction of BHUs and RHCs was reviewed during the meeting. Upgradation of 31 tertiary hospitals is ongoing and would cost Rs.36 billion. Upgradation of 21 tertiary hospitals under phase-II would be launched in July 2024 and would cost Rs.40 billion.
The upgradation of pilot project Shamke Bhattian BHU would be completed in 8 days. Upgradation of 2500 BHUs and 300 RHCs would be undertaken during the current year across the province.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Information Minister Azma Bokhari, Provincial Minister for P&SHC Khawaja Imran Nazir, Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique, Former Senator Parvez Rasheed, MPA Sania Ashiq, Secretaries and other officials attended the meeting.

CM orders creating new anti-narcotics department

LAHORE, Mar 27 (APP): Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has ordered for creating a new department for anti-narcotics, while chairing a review meeting on Department of Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control. She also ordered for clearing backlog of registration number plates of motor vehicles.
The CM said, “All resourceful people who are not paying tax currently should be brought into the tax net.” She added, “Tax on houses needs to be rationalised.” She directed the authorities concerned to prepare an assessment report on the difference of property tax due to mismatch in the properties’ rental values and the DC rates. She approved to set up a tax consultancy unit for proper evaluation of tax.
Earlier, the chief minister was briefed that 13 excise check posts would be established to prevent smuggling of goods and drugs. Moreover, the launch of e-stamped documents for e-registration of vehicles would result in 12.5pc increase in tax collection. The revival of opium factory and the review of pharmaceuticals would add a tax revenue of Rs 900 million.
The authorities concerned also apprised the CM that Excise Department would start providing services through Dastak Program at people’s doorsteps. The Excise Department will also work with Safe City Authority for recovery of challans.
Former senator Pervaiz Rashid, MPA Sania Ashiq, chief secretary, secretaries of Finance, Excise and other senior officers attended the meeting.
