Distt admin to launch comprehensive crackdown against power pilferers

MULTAN, Apr 08 (APP):District administration has decided to launch a comprehensive crackdown against power pilferers under a joint venture of Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) and district administration.
Presiding over a meeting of district government, police and MEPCO officials in this regard here on Monday, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Capt (retd) Rizwan Qadeer said that special teams of district administration and Mepco have been formed for crackdown against power pilferers. He said that it was been decided to ensure stern action against pilferers including heavy fine and cases against them.
He maintained that the decision was also made to ensure action against defaulters of Mepco to confirm 100 percent recovery from them without any discrimination. He said that power pilferage would be identified through special branch and revenue officials.
He added that special campaign on social media would also be initiated against big defaulters during action against them. He said that the monitoring teams have been formed at Tehsil level and they were directed to submit performance report on daily basis.

PRCS, IFRC distribute livestock among flood-affected families in Sindh, Balochistan

ISLAMABAD, April 08 (APP):To support the livelihoods of the communities affected by the 2022 floods, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), in collaboration with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), had successfully completed the distribution process of buffaloes in Sindh and Balochistan areas
According to a press release issued here on Monday, 360 buffaloes were distributed among the flood affected people. Some 60 buffaloes in each of the five districts of Sindh including Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Khairpur, and Shikarpur. Additionally, 60 buffaloes were distributed in Jaffarabad district of Balochistan.
120 buffaloes would be distributed in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Dera Ghazi Khan Khan district of Punjab in the coming days, the press release said.
The press release further said that the task for distribution of buffaloes was completed in a separate ceremonies that held in the above mentioned districts.
The events were graced by Muhammad Abaidullah Khan, Secretary General, PRCS, Piwi Ophoff, Head of Country Delegation, IFRC Pakistan, the leadership of PRCS’s respective district branches, staff and volunteers from PRCS and IFRC, and community representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Shahid Ahmad Laghari, Chairman PRCS expressed gratitude for the tremendous efforts of the PRCS staff and volunteers who have done a tireless job during the distribution process. He said that distribution was made in a transparent manner.
He highlighted PRCS’s commitment to continuing its support to communities through various initiatives, including cash assistance, shelter, livelihood assistance, healthcare, and hygiene promotion.
He also called upon the Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to play an active role in assisting the affected communities.
“We remain dedicated to our mission of serving humanity and stand ready to support the communities in their journey towards recovery and resilience”, Chairman Laghari said.
Piwi Ophoff, Head of Country Delegation, IFRC Pakistan, commended the role of the teams involved in providing assistance to the most deserving families.
“The distribution of buffaloes among the flood survivors is one of the key initiatives taken by the national society to empower the livelihoods of the affected communities. IFRC remains committed to supporting the national society in providing livelihood opportunities to the flood survivors, to improve their well-being and building their resilience to climatic shocks,” Piwi Ophoff said.
The beneficiaries and community elders have appreciated the PRCS and IFRC’s initiative taken for the communities ravaged by the 2022 floods.

BISP beneficiaries to receive financial assistance directly into bank accounts: SBP

KARACHI, Apr 08 (APP): State Bank of Pakistan, Monday, rolled out a facilitation framework to enable Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) beneficiaries receive financial assistance directly into their bank accounts.

The central bank, in a statement issued here, said that the facilitation framework has been developed in consultation with the BISP and banks and under the framework banks accounts of BISP beneficiaries will be opened in all banks and Micro Finance Banks across the country.

The decision has been taken to onboard BISP beneficiaries for receiving the social welfare payment into their accounts and under the framework, about 9.3 million BISP beneficiaries will be able to open a “BISP Sahulat Account” in a single visit to the designated bank branch within their vicinity.

The BISP has mapped its beneficiaries with a bank branch in the vicinity of the beneficiaries. However, given the large number of beneficiaries, the framework will be implemented in phases.

Initially, a pilot phase will be run in Karachi and Lahore for onboarding about 300,000 BISP beneficiaries and after successful implementation of the pilot phase, the framework coverage will be extended to other cities in consultation with BISP.

The framework is expected to facilitate disbursement of social welfare payments to BISP beneficiaries in an efficient and transparent manner, enhance women financial inclusion, and promote digitization of financial services.

Sindh Doctors Association UK,  NDF distributes wheelchairs , tricycles in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH, Apr 08 (APP):Sindh Doctors Association UK distributed wheelchairs and tricycles to deserving disabled people through the local partner organization NDF Pakistan Nawabshah here on Monday.
On this occasion, eminent social activist Abid Lashari, acknowledged the efforts of Sindhi Doctors especially Dr. Shah Bux Lashari, Dr. Fahad Memon, Dr. Shahabuddin Kalhoro and others.
 He further said that 10 wheelchairs and three tricycles were distributed among the deserving persons with disabilities from the given donation.
He prayed for the Pakistani community living in the United Kingdom, especially the Sindhi community, who made this possible to provide assistive devices to 13 persons with disabilities to ensure their mobility to make their lives easier in the Holy month of Ramazan.
He mentioned that there is a huge shortage of assistive devices in Sindh. If this practice sustains, thousands persons with disabilities will be benefited by assistive devices.

Police claim to arrest 69 outlaws, recover looted material worth 50 million

MULTAN, April 08 (APP):Multan police in different operations launched against the criminals have smashed eighteen gangs operating from Makhdoom Rasheed circle and claimed to arrest 69 outlaws besides recovering looted material worth Rs 50 million, from their possession.
The City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali while addressing a news conference held here Monday said that Police have recovered looted valuables including four (4) cars, a pick-up, 48 motorcycles, a motorcycle rickshaw, gold ornaments weighing 25 Tola, a tractor, 31 solar plates, mobile phones and the cash which were distributed among the complainants of the cases.
The CPO said that order for special operation was given to SSP Operation Arsalan Zahid, to control the crime in the area. The police teams after launching the operation managed to trace 156 cases by using modern and traditional investigations techniques and assistance from CCTV footages.
Sharing the details, the CPO said that in the PS Makhdoom Rasheed area, the police team nabbed 23 outlaws by smashing five gangs and recovered looted and stolen valuables worth over Rs 24 million besides five 30 bore pistols, and 25 bullets.
In Basti Malook police area, police team apprehended 46 criminals by smashing thirteen gangs and recovered looted and stolen valuables worth over Rs 25 million from their possession besides 20 pistols, and two repeaters.
CPO Sadiq Ali accompanying by SSP Operations Arsalan Zahid, SSP Investigations Rana Muhammad Ashraf, SP Sadar Shamsuddin, and SDPO Makhdoom Rasheed Naeem Abbas, told newsmen that Multan police have returned the looted and stolen valuables worth around Rs 160 million to complainants during last three months.
He commended the role of police teams for outstanding performance during the operations.
