Ambassador Hashmi stresses upon commitments to reduce carbon emission
ISLAMABAD, Apr 13 (APP): Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal Abrar Hashmi said that developing nations like Pakistan and Nepal bore the brunt of carbon emissions largely produced elsewhere in the world and urged the developed countries to fulfil emission reduction commitments.
“Pakistan has been active in international negotiations, advocating for measures like the Loss and Damage Fund. Collaboration with Nepal is crucial in leveraging scientific knowledge to mitigate these impacts,” the ambassador said during an interview with Radio Nepal on Saturday.
The ambassador said that melting of glaciers in the Himalayan and Karakoram ranges presented serious risks like floods, droughts, and water shortages for both the nations and beyond.
Pakistan, with its diverse zones and seasonal changes, faced these challenges and had experienced devastating floods due to rapid glacier melt in recent years, he added.
“Pakistan and Nepal, with negligible emissions compared to our populations, need collective action from major emitters. We must highlight this injustice on global platforms for effective climate policy,” the ambassador stressed.
To a question, Ambassador Hashmi said that improved connectivity was key to realizing the full potential of their relations, adding initiatives like reviving direct flights via national flag carriers and facilitating private airlines could enhance trade and tourism.
He further said that South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation’s (SAARC) progress had been significant, yet more needed to be done. “Addressing developmental disparities and resolving internal issues are critical. Our shared history and civilizations provide a strong basis for revitalizing SAARC’s role in regional cooperation,” Radio Nepal quoted the ambassador as saying.
Ambassador Hashmi, to another query, replied that cricket offered a great avenue for cooperation. Bilateral series, exchanges at all levels, and collaborative programmes between their cricket boards could benefit Nepal’s cricketing journey, he opined.

Joint inquiry by security, police officials launched to probe Bahawalnagar incident
RAWALPINDI, Apr 12 (APP): A joint inquiry comprising security and police officials would be conducted for ascertaining the facts and apportioning responsibility to ensure a fair and deliberate inquiry, and to determine responsibility for violation of laws and misuse of authority in Bahawalnagar incident.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release on Friday, an unfortunate incident occurred in Bahawalnagar recently, which was promptly addressed and resolved through collaborative efforts of military and police authorities.
However, despite this, certain factions with vested motives started fanning vitriolic propaganda on social media to create divisions between state institutions and government departments.
Omar Ayub’s statement a continuity of party’s anti-State conspiracy: Talal Chaudhry
ISLAMABAD, Apr 12 (APP): Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Senator Talal Chaudhry on Friday critized the statement of Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khanz saying his party’s narrative was the continuity of conspiracy against the country.
Omar Ayub in a statement had said that a protest movement would be initiated from Balochistan and later the scope of the protests would be expanded countrywide.
Talal Chaudhry said the party had no courage to express solidarity with the martyrs of Balochistan and condemn the acts of terrorists.
He said from the platform of Balochistan, speaking against the foreign investment in the province was a conspiracy.
He said those who made references against the judges and terminating their jobs were now politicking on the independence of judiciary.
Talal said calling the riots of May 9 a “political consciousness” was an utter expression of shamelessness.
He mentioned that after the positive indicators of economy and decline in inflation, the elements who earlier took the country to the brink of default had reactivated again.
