PESCO notifies power suspension on some KP feeders

PESHAWAR, Apr 16 (APP): Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) on Tuesday notified that due to maintenance work power supply will remain suspended from Peshawar Cantt Grid Station on 17th and 20th April from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Consequently, it said consumers of Tehkal, Islamia College, KTH, Commercial, Jahangir Abad, University Town, NCB, Airport, PAF Base, Saddar Road, Mall Road, MES 1,2, Old MES, Babu Ghari, Marble Industry, SAA, Palosi 1, Behari Colony, Tehkal Payan feeders will face inconvenience.
It said the power supply will also remain suspended from Pesco Colony Grid Station on 17th and 20th April from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. resultantly consumers of Bank of Khyber, Scarp 1, ICF, Darmangi, Warsak Road and Jail feeders will face inconvenience.
The power Supply will remain suspended from 500 KV Ghazi Barotha Circuit on 17th and 18th April from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. resultantly, consumers of 132 KV Peshawar Industrial, Hayatabad, Shabqadar, Peshawar University, Nowshera City, Nowshera Industrial, Jehangira, Mardan 2,3, Chakdara, Nizampur, Jalala, Katlang, Hussai, Dargai, Barikot, Batkhela, Timergara, Swat, Khwazakhela, Shangla, Madyan grid connected feeders will face inconvenience.
The power supply will also remain suspended from Madian–Dir Transmission Line on 18th April from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. resultantly, consumers of 132 KV Lal Qila Maidan and Dir grid connected feeders will face inconvenience.

SACM pays surprise visit to TVC, checks attendance

PESHAWAR, Apr 16 (APP): Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Industries, Commerce and Technical Education, Abdul Karim Tordhir paid a surprise visit to Government Technical and Vocational Centre, Gulbahar on Tuesday.
During the visit he checked the register, biometric attendance of staff, went to 13 different departments to review teaching and training programmes. He also met with the teachers and students and held a detailed discussion with the Principal of the centre.
Talking to the principal and other administrative and teaching staff of the centre, he emphasized on the implementation of various suggestions to make the centre financially stable and self-reliant while increasing the efficiency of the centre.
The Special Assistant said that there is an urgent need to work on self-reliance proposals to financially stabilize the Vocational Centre of Gulbahar and the products produced here serve as samples for the market and make it able to produce to generate resources for its own annual budget.
He said that apart from training, the institution also needs to start working on the commercial level, saying it move the institution towards self-reliance. So, he said the skills imparted in the centre will meet the demands of the market and will help those acquire skills to start their own business.
The Special Assistant further directed the management of the centre to take steps to implement the proposal and focus on various aspects of technical training. He further directed to ensure improvement in the attendance of the technical experts and other staff through biometric method and also to take steps to improve the attendance of students as well. He directed the inclusion of relevant experts on the management committee of the institute so their useful opinions can be utilized.

IT, Telecom sector having vast investment opportunities:  Shaza Fatima

ISLAMABAD, Apr 16 (APP):Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has said that there are vast opportunities for investment in the IT and Telecom sector of Pakistan.
She said that the present government, under the vision of the Prime Minister, is committed for the promotion of investment in the country.
Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja was talking to CEO Taavun (Pvt) Limited Muhammad Shahbaz Khan, and CEO Wateen Adil Rashid who called on her here on Tuesday, said a news release.
She said that private sector will be fully supported as it has vital role in increasing our exports. About youth, she said youth are our great asset and the steps are underway for their development.  Shaza Fatima appreciated  Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan of UAE for his special interest in further investment in Pakistan’s Telecom sector.

UNESCO has announced MAB Young Scientists Awards 2024

ISLAMABAD, Apr 16 (APP): UNESCO has announced MAB Young Scientists Awards 2024 for the young researchers carrying out interdisciplinary research in line with UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme.
The researchers (under the age of 35) either pursuing research in UNESCO Biosphere Reserves or potential sites or their work contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals may apply for the awards.
According to the ECOSF Pakistan, the deadline for submission of applications for the MAB Young Scientists Awards is May 15 while the priority will be given to projects carried out in biosphere reserves.
Created in 1989, the grant sheds light on interdisciplinary research in line with UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme carried out by young scientists.
Since 2022, with the generous support from the Principality of Monaco, five additional annual fellowships are granted specifically to studies on marine, island and coastal issues in biosphere reserves, totaling a number of 11 awards.
Through the MAB Young Scientists Awards, the MAB programme is investing in a new generation of scientists worldwide as well-trained and committed young people are key to addressing ecological and sustainability issues.
The MAB Young Scientists awards can grant up to US$ 5,000 to young researchers in support of their research on ecosystems, natural resources and biodiversity.
Until 2025, implementation of the UNESCO MAB Programme is guided by the MAB Strategy and Lima Action Plan (LAP) for UNESCO’s MAB Programme and its World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR), which contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). MAB Young Scientists Award applicants are strongly encouraged to consider the priorities of the LAP, and to identify in their applications how their research contributes to the research-related actions of the LAP and to the SDGs.
Since 2022, the MAB YSA Scheme has received support from the Principality of Monaco enabling five additional annual fellowships specifically benefitting studies on marine, island and coastal issues in biosphere reserves.
This generous support reinforces the contribution of the MAB Programme towards the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Around the world, more than 200 coastal, island and marine biosphere reserves make a crucial contribution to the Decade by promoting the integrated conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems with sustainable human development supported by research and knowledge exchange.
The MAB Programme’s World Network of Islands and Coastal Biosphere Reserves plays a particular global coordinating role in this regard, mobilizing island and coastal biosphere reserves in support of the UN Decade.
The MAB Young Scientists Award Scheme aims to encourage young scientists, in particular those from developing countries, to use MAB research, project sites and biosphere reserves in their research; encourage young scientists who already use such sites to undertake comparative studies in other sites in or outside their own country.
The award will help promote and encourage the exchange of information and experience among a new generation of scientists and strengthen communication of the LAP within the young scientists and strengthen its visibility.
This initiative will involve young scientists in the implementation of the LAP and enhance awareness among young scientists of the role of research in the implementation of the SDGs – in particular when conducted in biosphere reserves.

Chairman, CIDCA awarded Hilal-e-Quaid-Azam

BEIJING, April 16 (APP): On behalf of the President of Pakistan, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi conferred the civil award Hilal-i -Quaid-i-Azam on Ambassador Luo Zhaohui, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), at an auspicious investiture ceremony held at the Embassy of Pakistan here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi felicitated Ambassador Luo on receiving the prestigious award that marked a recognition of his outstanding contribution to China-Pakistan friendship.

Paying rich tribute to Ambassador Luo for his meritorious services, the Ambassador called him “a great friend of Pakistan” who had always been at the forefront in supporting the people and government of Pakistan.

Ambassador Luo Zhaohui, in his remarks, expressed profound gratitude to the President of Pakistan for conferring on him “Hilal-e-Quaid-i-Azam”.

He referred to Pakistan as his second home, recalling especially the extraordinary support extended to him by the Pakistan leadership during his tenure as Ambassador of China to Pakistan. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, high-level officials and media persons of China and Pakistan.

Rains affect examination process at Chitral

PESHAWAR, Apr 16 (APP):Provincial Minister for Education, Faisal Khan Tarakai chairing a meeting here Wednesday decided to cancel papers scheduled to be held in Chitral on April, 18, 19 and 20.
The decision has been taken keeping in view the situation emerged in Chital due to recent rains and floods.
The education minister said that papers that have been cancelled would be rescheduled and the decision has nothing to do with districts where situation is normal. He said that staff has been deputed for the examination and all the necessary measures including security steps have been taken with the help of district administration and police.
Faisal Tarakai said that monitoring rooms, information desks and hotline numbers have been established to facilitate students and control unfair means during examination.
He said that action would be taken against staff in case of paper-leak adding that examination would be held following policy of merit and transparency.

Rain with thunderstorm forecast for Sindh from April 17 to 19

KARACHI, Apr 16 (APP): The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rain with thunderstorm in different parts of the Sindh province including Karachi from April 17 to April 19.
The rain is forecast in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jamshoro and Sanghar. The rain is predicted from the night of April 17 to the morning of April 19 in the province.

Four gamblers arrested over cock fighting

RAWALPINDI, Apr 16 (APP):Police have arrested four gamblers on cock fights and recovered four mobile phones, stake money Rs 35,000, 13 motorcycles, four chickens and other items from their possession during a crackdown here on Tuesday, informed a police spokesman.
According to the details, Taxila Police held four gamblers identified as Waqar, Umar, Abdul Wajid and Imran. Police have registered a case against all the accused and further investigation is in progress.
Superintendent of Police, Potohar appreciated the performance of the police team adding that gambling was the root of other evils and action against such elements would be continued.

School based education programmes needed for prevention of child abuse

ISLAMABAD, Apr 16 (APP): The civil society has demanded the government should start school-based education programmes for the prevention of child abuse and to aware juniors to recognize and avoid predators.
Talking to APP here on Tuesday, the educationist expert  Farkhanda Orangzaib has said that concerned authorities, stressing the education awareness programme and teachers and school administrators have been directed to start informative lectures to prevent violence against minors.
Under the awareness program, the government should introduce steps to identify suspicious persons while students would be encouraged to share information about violence within school premises.
Ayub Malik the Human Rights activist has said that this move is to curb the alarming rise in sexual abuse incidents involving children.
