Tributes to Dr. Iqbal for awakening Muslims, paid on his 86th death anniversary

0
PESHAWAR, Apr 21 (APP): Great tributes were paid to the national poet philosopher, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal for awakening the Muslims of subcontinent for a separate homeland through his inspired poetry and political acumen, on his 86th death anniversary that was observed with great admiration and reverence in all districts  of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday.
The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for progress and prosperity of Pakistan and eternal peace of the legendary poet who instilled a new hope and direction among the Muslims of Indo-Pakistan subcontinent for a separate homeland where they could live with dignity, respect and religious freedom.
Political, social, literary organizations and educational institutions organized special programs and declamation contests in connection with the day.
The speakers eulogized the matchless poetic, literary and political services of Allama Muhammad Iqbal who presented the historic 1930 address at Allabad that set a clear direction for millions of Muslims to achieve Pakistan where they could spend life as per their religious belief.
In this connection, a debate competition on the life and poetic services of Dr Muhammad Iqbal was held at Peshawar Model School where speakers highlighted various aspects of his personality and services.
Malaika Bibi, a 4th grade student said that following the failure of the Independence War of 1857, the Muslims of the subcontinent who ruled united India for nearly 800 years were pushed the wall after the colonial masters tilted towards Hindus and deprived Muslims of all kinds of rights and liberties.
She said the Hindus were given free access to education, jobs, and civil, economic and political rights while Muslims were pushed to the walls by the colonial masters as the latter considered them rivals after overthrowing the Mughals under the guise of East India Company.
Hence, she said the Muslims were deprived of all kinds of rights and liberties including education, employment, social, economic and independence in that era of discrimination and oppression. She said the mission of great educationist Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was carried forward by Hazrat Shah Wali Ullah and later by Dr Muhammad Iqbal for the socio-economic and educational emancipation of the Muslims.
Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal continued his inspired poetry and created a new wave of hope, patriotism and spirit in Muslims of the Subcontinent.
The national poet delivered his historic address at Allahad in 1930 which greatly helped in the creation of Pakistan, she added.
Dr Muhammad Iqbal was the founder of the two-nations theory that was the foundation of Pakistan. He promoted unity, mutual coexistence and patriotism besides discouraging all kinds of discrimination.
Anaya Ali, a 4th grade student said Dr Iqbal’s clear vision for Pakistan had infused a revolutionary spirit in the lives of Muslims and his poetry helped them to get united under the flag of All Pakistan Muslims League (AIML), and later Pakistan was achieved by Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
As a result of Allahabad’s address, she said that the Pakistan Resolution was passed in Lahore on March 23, 1940, that led to the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947, on the world map.
She said Dr Iqbal’s concept of khudi was an inspiration for Muslims of that time, which also motivated the young generation to work for the cause of a separate state where Muslims spend lives with religious freedom and dignity. Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s philosophy of Khudi or selfhood has not only changed the mindset of the Muslim youth but helped them to believe in their own abilities and strengths imperative to achieve their ultimate goal of Pakistan, she maintained.
She said Dr Muhammad Iqbal had faced criticism mostly from religious elements on the concept of selfhood or khudi but he didn’t stop himself from sharing his thoughts to the people of the subcontinent and later helped Muslims to achieve Pakistan.
The Poet of the East had presented his philosophy in a very unique and creative way by using high poetic imaginations but his words cannot be understood by everyone because he was an ocean of knowledge, she said adding, Dr Iqbal has comprehensively explained selfhood’s significance in his book ‘Asrar-i-Khudi’ and said the aim of life of a person should be self-realization, believing in own abilities and self- knowledge.
She said the architect of the nation theory has often used Shaheen (Eagle) as a source of strength to motivate the youth of all ages irrespective of borders, continents and geography. She said significance of Khudi in an individual was a source of strength through which we can bring ourselves closest to the ultimate goal.
Principal Imrana Shaheen as a chief guest said that Dr Allama  Muhammad Iqbal said Dr Iqbal’s teaching mainly revolved around peace, brotherhood, unity, political tolerance and mutual coexistence. She said that Dr Muhammad Iqbal’s teaching was a key source for us to put the Pakistan on road to progress and development and achieve success in all fields of life.
She said working with unity and the right direction was guaranteed to our success in this world. Dr Iqbal’s ideology and principles of life are the best source of inspiration for people in all sectors, and there is a time to strictly adhere to his lesson of Khudi (ego) to take the country’s on road to prosperity, she added.
The other speakers highlighted the life and services of the national poet and said that the history of Urdu and Persian literature as well as the Pakistan Movement would be incomplete without mentioning Dr Muhammad Iqbal’s services.
The speakers said the country’s existing challenges could easily be addressed by strictly adhering to Dr Muhammad Iqbal teaching of Khudi.

Cattle farming vital to alleviate poverty in rural areas

SARGODHA, Apr 21 (APP): Livestock is considered a precious asset not only to run the kitchen smoothly on a daily basis but also help meet expenditures in emergency situations.
About 67 percent of the rural population in the culturally rich region of Sargodha division is directly linked to the livestock sector. The presence of animals is like a cheque which can be encashed at any time.
Livestock has over a 14pc share in gross domestic product (GDP) of the country. It has immense potential not to alleviate poverty in rural areas but can also revolutionize the living standards of the people. Pakistan is ranked fifth in milk producing country. The production of milk and meat could be enhanced significantly by working on animal genetics. The best semen quality could play a vital role in improving animal health, milk and meat production. Similarly, it could also help generate maximum income for the farmers as well as the country’s economy.
At the national level, about 10 million people are rearing cattle. According to the animal census and Economic Survey Report, there are 58.7million big animals in the country. Similarly, the country has 83.3 million small animals (goats). As per the last Economic Survey Report, the production of milk increased from 63,698million tonnes to 69,784 million tonnes.
Apart from this, district Sargodha owned 4,611,324 big animals (buffaloes, cows), 2,882,689 small animals (goats, sheep) and 1,975,816 rural poultry. Besides this, the farmers also rear 919 camels, said sources in the Livestock Department. In rural areas, it is easy to rear animals because of the cultural environment, easy access to infrastructure and nutrition.
In rural communities, the role of women farmers in cattle rearing is highly important. Without women farmers’ participation, the livestock sector could not be managed properly, said Deputy Director Livestock Dr Wajid Ali here on Sunday while talking to APP.
He said that livestock was performing an important role in poverty alleviation in rural areas. He recalled that the government had launched a special initiative to provide buffaloes and cows to widows, especially hailing from rural areas. The government had a very unique idea to provide animals to widows whose children were availing school education. The Livestock Department provided a good number of small and big animals to widows after thorough verification from schools concerned. The widows are now successfully running their kitchen.
Kosar Noureen, a widow and a resident of Shah Nikdur in Sillanwali, who got a big animal in 2020, told APP, “I own one buffalo and one calf and it is a good source of my regular income”.
She said that she had also earned Rs180,000 by selling three calves. She expressed pleasure and thanked the government for the provision of the buffalo which helped her overcome economic woes.
Rauf, a resident of Farooqa, said that he was eager to sacrifice an animal on Eid ul Azha. He said that he had purchased a small animal against Rs20,000 and nurtured it for the whole year. He expressed pleasure that he had sacrificed the animal for first time in his life.
Similarly, Nadia Bibi and Rukhsana Bibi, who are widows and farmers, and live in Sobhaga, also shared their success stories and praised the government for creation of economic opportunities on a regular basis for their families.
Naila Bibi, another female farmer from Noorpur, said that she got animals on a sharing basis from an investor a few years ago. Rimsha recalled that she was a poor maid before starting the profession of cattle rearing and now she owned 26 animals.
Muhammad Usman from Eeeni, another cattle farmer, who completed a six-month diploma for cattle farm manager from Sargodha Institute of Cattle Farming , said that he had 16 animals. He said that his son was also a student at the institution. Usman recounted that he used to sell an animal for payment of a semester fee. “Animals are a good asset in an emergency situation. I also managed expenditures on marriages of my two younger brothers by rearing cattle,” he added.
Dr Wajid said that the Livestock Department had launched various programmes including calf fattening, save buffalo calf, advisory service, provision of free of cost animals, poultry units at subsidised prices. He stated that production of meat and milk could be enhanced by following certain steps including sileage, promotion of Rhodes grass etc. “High genetics animals should also be promoted. In case, there is no price capping on milk and meat, there can be more growth because people will invest in the sector. Although, there will be competition but it will surely enhance profitability and ultimately lead to immense productivity,” he added.
He maintained that the Livestock Department was also vaccinating animals as it had imported vaccinations recently.

IMCG Bhara Kahu struggles without a regular principal

0
ISLAMABAD, Apr 21 (APP): Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) Bhara Kahu finds itself in disarray as the absence of a regular principal continues to paralyse both administrative and financial operations, leaving over 1200 students and staff directionless.
The crisis emerged following the reshuffling of principals by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) on March 20. Ms. Najm-un-Nisa, the former principal of IMCG Bhara Kahu, was transferred to IMCG I-8/3 as principal on “temporary duty.”
In a chain reaction, Ms. Shazia Wazir was slated to replace her, but according to sources at the FDE, she refused to assume the role, citing concerns over the seniority principle in her transfer.
However, conflicting reports suggest that concerns over substantial funds embezzlement in the students’ fund of the college during the past few years might be influencing her reluctance to join IMCG Bhara Kahu, thus plunging the college into a leadership vacuum.
In an attempt to settle the issue, the FDE has given Ms. Shazia Wazir time until the end of the summer vacation to address her apprehensions, signaling a compromise that some perceive as a display of weakness on the part of the authorities.
Meanwhile, attempts to fill the leadership void have proven futile. Ms. Abida Parveen, an associate professor at IMCG (Postgraduate) G-10/4, was transferred to IMCG I-14/3 but remains in limbo, awaiting Ms. Shazia Wazir’s departure.
With Ms. Shazia Wazir’s relieving now delayed until August, Ms. Abida Parveen and the college find themselves in an extended state of uncertainty.
To mitigate the crisis at IMCG Bhara Kahu, the FDE has reportedly requested another principal to oversee the affairs of IMCG Bhara Kahu in addition to her own college.
However, the administrative debacle has left teachers and students in disarray, with mounting concerns over the integrity of the college environment.
Anonymous sources within the IMCG Bhara Kahu while talking to APP paint a grim picture of the situation, highlighting the repercussions of the absence of a principal.
Pending bills and budget allocations of the fourth quarter risk going unused, with the looming deadline of June 30 threatening the lapse of funds. Moreover, the utilization of student funds requires the approval of a regular principal, further exacerbating the college’s financial woes.
“There seems to be no writ of FDE. It is as if there is a vacuum of authority, leaving educational institutions adrift without proper guidance or oversight. The FDE should really think things through before making transfers” expressed a vice principal, highlighting a breakdown in governance within the education sector.
An associate professor of a college speaking on condition of anonymity told APP, “These transfers reflect a lack of rational decision-making and a violation of basic principle of seniority on the part of the FDE. Moreover, the syndrome of ‘temporary duty’ disrupts educational institutions, compromising teaching quality and administrative efficiency.”
Teachers attribute this chaos to the absence of a regular Director General leading the Federal Directorate of Education, leading to haphazard decision-making and undermining the educational system’s integrity.
They urge the Minister for Education to intervene and appoint a seasoned Director General to rectify past wrongdoings and ensure appointments of Principals based on seniority, restoring stability to educational institutions.
