European Film Festival to start from May 15, featuring an exciting fusion of cinema

ISLAMABAD, Apr 21 (APP): The 3rd European Film Festival will start from May 15, featuring an exciting fusion of cinema, culture, and diversity in the federal capital.
Film enthusiasts from Islamabad and three other cities across Pakistan will get a unique opportunity to discover European cinema at the third European Film Festival.
The film festival will take place in four cities across Pakistan, including Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, and Gujrat, from May 15 to May 28, 2024.
The European Film Festival is a celebration of cinema that brings together film-makers, actors, and cinema enthusiasts. It provides an opportunity for Pakistani audiences to discover the rich and diverse world of European cinema and get a glimpse into the cultural and social issues that shape modern European societies.

CEC urges candidates to ensure Form 45 collection from presiding officers

ISLAMABAD, Apr 21 (APP): Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja has urged candidates participating in the bye-elections to ensure their polling agents collect Form 45 from the presiding officers before departing from the polling stations.
He instructed the supervising officers to ensure that Form 45 is handed over to all polling agents at polling stations.
The CEC communicated with the chief secretaries of all four provinces to obtain reports on the day-long election process, inquiring about electioneering activities. He emphasized that any laxity in ensuring the smooth conduct of the entire exercise would not be tolerated.
The CEC also reached out to regional deputy commissioners and commissioners overseeing sensitive polling station areas, instructing them to guarantee transparent elections.
Meanwhile, the CEC has sought a report from the Inspector General of Police Balochistan regarding the intrusion of armed individuals into the polling station of PB-50 Killa Abdullah and instructed for strict action against the perpetrators.
At the behest of several candidates and the The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, the Election Commission has promptly sought a report from the Provincial Election Commissioner Balochistan and Deputy Commissioner Killa Abdullah regarding the reported abduction of polling staff in constituency PB-50 Killa Abdullah.
The DC of Kila Abdullah verbally stated that no abduction of polling staff occurred. The Election Commission requested a written report from him regarding this matter, to facilitate a proper decision on the aforementioned applications.
The Chief Election Commissioner reached out to District Police Officer Narwal via phone to request a report on the death of a person near polling station PP-54, Narowal, and directed strict action against those accountable.

Commissioner orders beefing up security for Chinese nationals

FAISALABAD, Apr 21 (APP): Divisional Commissioner Silwat Saeed has directed the police to beef up security for Chinese engineers, working on various development projects in Faisalabad division.
The commissioner paid a visit to Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development & Management Company (FIEDMC) here on Sunday and presided over a meeting there. She took briefing about the security of Chinese engineers in FIEDMC and Allama Iqbal Industrial Estate and said that the police heads were bound to provide foolproof security to the Chinese and other foreigners.
She directed the Regional Police Officer (RPO), City Police Officer (CPO) and other police officers to ensure tight security in addition to keeping vigil eye on the suspects in and around the project sites where the Chinese were working.
She also directed to provide foolproof security during movement of the Chinese engineers. She said that she would hold next meeting after fortnight to review security arrangements for Chinese in the division.
She said that Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chief Minister Punjab were positively taking interest in the security of Chinese. Hence no negligence or lethargy would be tolerated in this regard.
She also stressed the need to provide training to the private security guards on modern lines in addition to making CCTV cameras and Control Room functional for monitoring security arrangements and ensure strict implementation on security plan.
He also directed to complete boundary wall of the FIEDMC project sites and said that all departments should make close liaison with each other in this regard.
RPO Dr Muhammad Abid Khan briefed the commissioner about security arrangements for Chinese while Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh, CPO Captain (Retired) Muhammad Ali Zia and others were also present in the meeting.

Haseebullah replaces Azam Khan in T20I squad

RAWALPINDI, Apr 21 (APP): The national selection committee has announced wicketkeeper/batter Haseebullah as the replacement player for Azam Khan, who was sidelined from the T20I series against New Zealand due to a tear in his right calf muscle.

Haseebullah will join the Pakistan side after tonight’s third T20I and will be available for selection in the remaining two T20Is scheduled to be played in Lahore on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, a Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman said.

The 21-year-old Haseebullah made his sole T20I appearance against New Zealand earlier this year.

SNGPL disconnects 3 connections during operation

MULTAN, Apr 21 (APP): Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) launched operation clean-up and disconnected three connections including two commercial and one compressor user and removed illegal extensions from two houses.
According to details, task force raided and disconnected connections of two consumers who were illegally using domestic meters for commercial purposes. A consumer was drawing gas through a compressor machine whose meter was also disconnected.
A consumer was illegally shifting service from one place to another along New Gulberg colony on which action will be taken under Section 462C.  The service has been removed.
Five consumers were illegally supplying gas to two houses whose extensions were cut off.

RPO reviews security arrangements for PP-22 Talagang by-election

RAWALPINDI, Apr 21 (APP): Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa visited and reviewed the security arrangement of the polling stations of the by-election constituency PP-22 Talagang.
DPO Chakwal Captain (Rtd) Wahid Mahmood gave a detailed briefing about the security arrangements over there. The RPO reviewed the security arrangements and issued necessary instructions.
RPO Babar Sarfraz Alpa said that all 215 polling stations are being monitored with CCTV cameras and effective patrolling around polling stations is also being ensured.
Additional contingents of the force have been kept in standby position to deal with any untoward incident, adding police personnel have also been deployed at 77 category A sensitive polling stations.
Strict implementation of the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission will be ensured.
Senior officers of the force posted at all polling stations from time to time to ensure checking and briefing.
The best security arrangements will be ensured in every possible way for the conduct of free and fair elections, he concluded.
