Spouse of Iranian President visits NUML

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Spouse of the President of Iran Dr Alam-ul-Huda on Monday visited the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) where she interacted with the students and the faculty.

Dr Alam-ul-Huda, on the occasion unveiled the English version of her book “The Art of feminine living” enriching the academic discourse with her insights and perspectives.

She also shed light on the important role played by women as explained in Islam.

An honorary degree was also conferred on her, Foreign Office said on its official X account.

PM, President Raisi condemn Israel’s indiscriminate use of force in Gaza; reiterate call for immediate ceasefire

ISLAMABAD, April 22 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi on Monday expressed strong and unequivocal condemnation of the indiscriminate use of force by Israeli occupation authorities in Gaza for over seven months.

They reiterated the call for international efforts to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, lifting of the siege and humanitarian relief to the people of Gaza.

The two leaders, in a meeting, discussed the entire range of bilateral relations and exchanged views on important regional and global developments, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

Underscoring the rich history of relations between Pakistan and Iran, they also reaffirmed their commitment to expand wide-ranging bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, energy, connectivity, culture and people-to-people contacts.

Ministers and senior officials from both sides were present in the meeting.

Both sides agreed to increase the volume of bilateral trade to US$10 billion in the next five years.

They also agreed to cooperate in developing joint approaches to confront common challenges including the threat of terrorism.

The prime minister lauded the Iranian leadership, especially Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, for Iran’s unequivocal and principled support for the Kashmiri people and their legitimate rights.

Wanted criminal apprehended for Wife’s murder

RAWALPINDI, Apr 22 (APP): Police have apprehended a proclaimed offender involved in the tragic shooting and killing of his wife during a domestic dispute.
Identified as Imdadullah, the wanted criminal had been on the run since the incident, which occurred in 2018 within the jurisdiction of Saddar Wah Police station.
According to a police spokesman, the arrest was made following diligent efforts by the Saddar Wah Police, who acted upon the complaint lodged by the deceased’s brother.
Expressing firm resolve against heinous crimes, the Divisional SP affirmed that strict action will be taken against individuals involved in such reprehensible acts.
He emphasized the zero-tolerance policy against violence targeting children and women, underscoring the paramount importance of safeguarding their rights and well-being.
Furthermore, the SP reiterated the primary duty of the police force to ensure the safety and security of citizens, emphasizing their commitment to upholding law and order at any cost.

Health Deptt to be digitalized in six months to improve online checking of vaccine availability, doctor’s performance

PESHAWAR, Apr 22 (APP): The Health Department would be digitalized and work over this task has been started with adoption of a software programme, said Provincial Minister for Health, Syed Qasim Ali Shah.
Talking to newsmen at a ceremony of handing over of a fleet of two cold chain vehicles by World Health Organization (WHO) to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department, Syed Qasim Ali Shah claimed that within six months, Health department will become paperless and all communication would be carried out digitally.
WHO Regional Representative, Dr. Luo Dapeng handed over two cold chain trucks, android phones and essential medicine for flood relief here on Monday at Directorate General Health Services Peshawar.
Provincial Minister said adoption of software in Heath Deparment will help in online checking of vaccine availability in different hospitals, doctors duty and working of allied staff in medical institutions and hospitals.
He said Health Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also concentrating over containing fast spread of non-communicable diseases including diabetes, blood pressure and hyper tension in society and for this purpose launching a `Live Well’ initiative to emphasize healthy living among students.
Provincial Minister also thanked WHO for providing cold chain vehicles and android phones to health staff. These vans will be an asset in strengthening and maintaining of cold chain equipment at provincial, district and UC level especially in the upcoming season of extreme summer.
Qasim Ali Shah said KP lacks essential equipment in ensure proper and smooth supply of vaccine in every nook and corner of the province.
In this regard, he continued, support from WHO, UNICEF and other international organizations are proving very helpful and supportive.
In response to a question, Health Minister said shortage of Cutaneous Leishmaniosis treatment vaccine will overcome in two weeks time.
The medicine used in treatment of CL is not available in public sector hospitals in province as a result of which people infected with the skin disease are facing problems in getting treatment.
He said consultation with WHO is in progress and soon the new stock of glucantime injection will arrive in the province.

U.S Consulate celebrates 20th anniversary of English Access Scholarship Program

PESHAWAR, Apr 22 (APP): Consul General Shante Moore of the U.S. Consulate General Peshawar and Bettina Malone, the U.S. Embassy’s Minister Counselor for Public Affairs, joined 200 English Access Scholarship Program alumni, teachers, and administrators at a local hotel here on Monday to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the program’s 2004 launch in Pakistan.
The U.S. Embassy-funded initiative provides English-language and leadership skills training to 13- to 20-year-old students from disadvantaged communities.  Since the program’s inception in Islamabad, 27,000 Pakistani students have completed the two-year course.  In KP, where Access began in 2008, there are nearly 3,000 graduates.
“Education is the cornerstone of progress for any community,” said Consul General Moore. “Through the English Access Scholarship Program, we invest in an interconnected world where students can learn and explore opportunities as global citizens.”
MCPA Malone noted that the Embassy’s “English-language programs are one of the highlights of the long-standing cooperation between the United States and Pakistan,” adding that “Access also teaches leadership skills and fosters a sense of self-belief that transcends the classroom and extends into every aspect of life.”
Access programs are underway in 24 Pakistani cities, including Swabi, Charsadda, Malakand, and Mansehra.  A new Access class will begin in Nowshera this summer, and there are plans for future programs in Mardan and Peshawar.

Amir Muqam’s visit to GB postponed due to unavoidable official engagements

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engr Amir Muqam”s visit to Gilgit Baltistan, scheduled for April 24, was postponed due to unavoidable official engagements in Islamabad.

A new date would be announced soon, said a press release. This would be Engr Amir Muqam’s first visit to Gilgit Baltistan since assuming charge as Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan.

During visit, Federal Minister will meet Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Cabinet members, Chief Secretary and senior officials of Gilgit Baltistan government.

The federal minister said that he will talk to the higher authorities about the problems of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

By-election triumph affirms Government’s popularity, asserts PML-N leader

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that the victory of ruling coalition candidates in recent by-elections demonstrates the public’s confidence in the incumbent government.

Talking to media, he expressed jubilation that government initiatives led to an increase in foreign investment.

He stated that the prime minister, along with his team, endeavored for the economic stability of the country, and welcomed successful agreements with friendly countries in Pakistan.

The League leader also expressed optimism about the visit of the President of Iran to Pakistan yielding useful results.

Railway police claim to arrest thief

MULTAN, April 22 (APP): Pakistan railways police claimed to have arrested a thief for stealing cash from a woman travelling in Buisness Express.
According to plaintiff, Rehman Mazhar travelling in a buisness class of bogie no.5 of the train as the accused identified as Usama hailing from Noshera Feroz, stole purse of a woman taking rest in the AC cabin during journey from Khanewal to Sadiq Abad. As per the reports, the woman was travelling with Rs. 100000 cash, few US dollars, ATM card, Jubilee health card and ID card.  As per report filed with the police, the accused hid him into the washroom to dispell doubt of the criminal activity  in sourrounding. However, the plaintiff called the police personnel who rushed to the cabin without delay.
Upon seeing the police, the accused threw the purse outside the moving train after taking out the money with him.
Incharge police checkpost, Usama Yusuf is collected the money and handed over to the aggrieved passenger. Khanewal police registered FIR against the accused for further investigation.
