People again reposed confidence in PML-N during by-elections: ministers

LAHORE, Apr 22 (APP): Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique and Minister for Communications and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bherth have said that the voters trusted the candidates of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and allied parties in April 21 by-elections after seeing the new direction of development journey.
Both the ministers expressed their views during a media talk in the premises of the Punjab Assembly, here on Monday.
Zeeshan Rafique said that the public responded in befitted manner during the by-election to those who made noise of so called rigging during the recent general elections. “The election results showed that the people want the politics of development and prosperity, not anarchy”, he said. The Local Government Minister said that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set new examples of public service in just two months. “Relief was given to the public in the form of inexpensive flour and bread.”
Minister C&W Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bherth said that the people of Punjab trusted in the leadership and policies of Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. “There will be more good news in the coming days. We will serve people day and night”, he resolved.
Malik Sohaib Ahmad said, “People once again trusted the PML-N in the by-election after seeing our track record.” He pledged that under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, the problems of the province and the country will be solved. “The public gave an overwhelming response to those who tried to play game of form 45 and 47”, he said. He further said that reduced prices of bread and great relief in the form of ‘Ramadan Nigheban’ package are unprecedented examples of service. “Ramadan Nigheban Package and other projects were launched for the betterment of the people”, he said. He advised that it would be better if opposition approaches concerned forums instead of making noise about rigging during the by-elections. “The fact is that there was no rigging anywhere, nor did the media report any such incident. Under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, we will continue delivering to the masses”, he resolved.
On a question from the media, Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique said that work is being done on conducting local governments elections. He said PTI’s Local Government Act 2022 was a joke, adding that Local Bodies elections will be held in Punjab after removing flaws in the act.
To another question, he said that those who spread the culture of hatred had martyred a Muslim League-N worker at Narowal. “On the contrary, our workers and candidates remained peaceful everywhere throughout the election process,” he added.

Finance Minister advocates collaboration to boost Investment into Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb met the members of Pakistan Business Council United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday in Dubai and emphasized the importance of collaboration among industry leaders, government agencies, financial institutions, and local stakeholders.

Such partnerships are vital for facilitating trade and encouraging investment flows into Pakistan, the minister said according to press statement issued by finance ministry here.

The Minister further said that the macro-economic indicators have started showing positive trends in the country both at internal and external fronts.

He said, the ongoing structural reforms and enforcement mechanism would further set the direction of the economy in a right way.

He also applauded Pakistani businessmen based in UAE for showcasing Pakistan’s best business practices and conducive environment for forward-thinking investors especially in the area of IT, digitalization, climate change, agriculture and human capital.

Pakistan, Iran agree to ban terrorist organizations

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Pakistan and Iran on Monday decided in principle to ban terrorist organizations in their respective countries.

The decision to the effect was taken in a meeting between Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, and his Iranian counterpart Dr Ahmad Vahidi and Law Minister Amin Hussain Rahimi.

The two sides agreed on a joint plan of action to deal with the menace of terrorism being a common problem, with further improving mutual support and exchange of intelligence information. It was decided to sign a security agreement in that regard at the earliest.

It was also decided to provide all possible facilities to the Pakistani pilgrims on the occasion of Arba’een. The Iranian Interior Minister extended an invitation to his Pakistani counterpart to visit Iran in that regard where the Iraqi counterpart would also be invited.

The two sides observed that joint initiatives would help ensure the provision of best facilities to the pilgrims.

Interior Minister Naqvi thanked his counterpart for the invitation to visit Iran.

Both sides also agreed to waive the fines imposed on their nationals imprisoned in each other’s country.

Mohsin Naqvi said that he wanted that the Pakistani prisoners in Iran should return to the homeland as soon as possible.

The two countries also decided to increase cooperation in border management, including steps for prevention of smuggling and drugs trafficking.

Minister Naqvi said that smuggling was a cause of economic loss for both countries and its prevention through border management would help promote mutual trade.

The two sides also agreed to activate the border markets as soon as possible.

The Iranian Interior Minister praised Pakistan’s excellent job of border fencing.

He said that Pakistan had historical, cultural and religious relations with Iran.

Minister Naqvi said that Pakistan attached great importance to its fraternal relations with Iran and was keen to further strengthen mutual cooperation.

He said all Islamic countries would have to work together for the rights of the oppressed Muslims of Gaza.

He thanked the Iranian Government for supporting Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue.

The Iranian President’s visit to Pakistan was very important in terms of bilateral relations, he observed.

Both the Iranian ministers thanked Mohsin Naqvi for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to them on their visit to Pakistan.

Partly cloudy weather with chances of scattered rain predicted

LAHORE, Apr 22 (APP): Partly cloudy weather with hot conditions was observed in the city on Monday while MET office predicted similar weather conditions with chances of scattered rain for the next 24 hours.
MET officials said a shallow westerly wave is affecting upper parts while another westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of the country on the night of 24 April. They predicted that mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country while hot in southern parts. However, rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and adjoining hilly areas.
Rainfall was recorded at some cities including Malam Jabba, Saidu Sharif, Kakul, Balakot, Mandi Bahauddin, Layyah, Jhelum, Murree, Toba Tek Singh, Mangla, Rawalakot, Ghari Dupatta and Muzaffarabad.
Monday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Shaheed Benazirabad where mercury reached 42°C while in Lahore it was 35.4°C and minimum was 21.2°C.
