Chinese company delegation meets Ch Shafay Hussain

LAHORE, Apr 23 (APP):A delegation from a chip manufacturing company in China met with Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, here on Tuesday at the Punjab Investment Board.
The Chinese company expressed interest in investing in chip and card manufacturing. Andrew Leong from XH Smart Tech Limited stated that their group aims to establish a chip manufacturing plant in Punjab and requested land in Bhalwal Industrial Estate.
During the meeting, Provincial Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain highlighted the extensive investment opportunities in Punjab’s industrial zones.
He mentioned the benefits of Special Economic Zones, including ten years of income tax exemption and one-time duty-free machinery import. The minister assured the Chinese company of full support for investing in the industrial zone and emphasized the potential in chip and card manufacturing. He affirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to providing necessary support for establishing the chip manufacturing plant.
Chaudhry Shafay Hussain reiterated his determination to attract new investments to Punjab, emphasizing the province’s investor-friendly environment and the streamlined support provided to both domestic and foreign investors.
Present at the meeting were Secretary of Industries and Commerce, Ehsan Bhutta, CEO of Punjab Investment Board, Jalal Hasan, and officials from XH Smart Tech Limited.

WSSCA, Girls degree college organize tree plantation drive

ABBOTTABAD, Apr 23 (APP): In a joint effort between Government Girls Degree College Nowshera and Water and Sanitation Services Company Abbottabad (WSSCA) Tuesday organized a tree plantation campaign at Salhad Dumping Ground, marking a significant step towards environmental conservation and community health enhancement.
During the campaign, WSSCA in collaboration with the Department of Forests, has successfully planted approximately 2500 fruit-bearing and shade trees across the region. This initiative aims to mitigate the adverse impacts of landfill activities and promote a healthier and more pleasant environment for local residents.
WSSCA officials highlighted the importance of this collaboration, emphasizing the role of Water and Sanitation Services Company in conjunction with Government Girls Degree College Nowshera and 300 plants of various types were planted in the Salhad Dumping Ground as part of this programme.
Expressing gratitude towards the administration, faculty members, and students of Government Girls Degree College Nowshera, WSSCA officials conveyed their commitment to continue cooperation for the advancement of the city and the well-being of its inhabitants.

Azam Swati gets bail

ISLAMABAD, Apr 23 (APP):A local court on Tuesday confirmed the bail of PTI’s leader Azam Khan Swati in a case pertaining to violation of section-144.
A district and session judge Islamabad heard the case and approved the bail of accused against surety bonds worth Rs 5,000.
During hearing, the defence lawyer Ali Bokhari Advocate said that his client was arrested in this case and very next day he was granted post arrest bail. But the same was cancelled due to his non appearance and then he was declared absconder, he added.
After hearing arguments, the court confirmed the bail.

KP Govt. to provide full support to NCRC in child registration: CS

PESHAWAR, Apr 23 (APP): Chief Secretary (CS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary has said that government would ensure implementation of all feasible suggestions and extend cooperation to National Commission on Rights of Child Registration (NCRC) in process of registration and protect rights of children.
He said this during a meeting with Chairperson NCRC, Ayesha Raza Farooq here on Tuesday. The meeting was convened to discuss various feasible suggestions regarding increasing rate of children registration at the time of birth.
The CS also emphasized the need to create more awareness regarding registration and protect rights of children and added that provincial government would continue regular monitoring along with full cooperation in this regard.
Various proposals regarding making the process of registration of children easier at the time of birth were discussed in detail. Speaking on the occasion, Ayesha Raza Farooq said that the registration rate of children in Pakistan is very low and work is underway to further improve registration process.
She said that the commission is working closely with federal and provincial governments to facilitate the process of child registration. Secretary Social Welfare, Secretary Local Government, Secretary Health, Secretary Education, NADRA, UNICEF representatives and other officers also attended the meeting.

Law minister for inclusion of rehabilitation aspects in Anti-Narcotics act

ISLAMABAD, April 23 (APP): Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar on Tuesday announced the inclusion of rehabilitation aspects in  Anti-Narcotics Act, reflecting the government’s commitment to holistic approach in addressing drug-related issues.
The inaugural session of the Reimagining Justice Conference: “Public Health and Human Rights Centred Drug Policy” organized by Justice Project Pakistan, commenced today with a keynote address by the Federal Minister for Law and Justice.
The conference, aimed at addressing the pressing issues surrounding drug policy, featured the presentation of the OHCHR’s report on human rights challenges in combating the global drug problem.
The law minister emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders for building a better world. He acknowledged the diverse perspectives on punishments in narcotics cases and highlighted the government’s efforts to abolish the death penalty in consultation with relevant departments and stakeholders.
The minister underscored the state’s responsibility to ensure that no individual faces unjust penalties. He pledged to introduce reforms and amendments regarding probation in the Anti-Narcotics Act during the upcoming National Assembly session, signaling proactive steps toward comprehensive policy enhancement.
Assuring cooperation and coordination among governmental departments and international organizations, the minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working in harmony with entities such as the UN and EU to tackle drug-related challenges effectively.
The Reimagining Justice Conference serves as a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration among policy makers, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders, with a shared goal of advancing human rights centred drug policies in Pakistan and beyond.

IESCO notifies power suspension programme

Salman Rafique chairs 36th FJMU syndicate meeting

LAHORE, Apr 23 (APP): The 36th syndicate meeting of Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, here on Tuesday.
In the meeting, Additional Secretary Zahida Azhar, Additional Technical Secretary Dr. Hafiz Shahid Latif, and Deputy Secretary Finance Hamad Al-Rab from the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education were present. Also in attendance were Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof. Dr. Mehmood Ayaz, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kamran Khalid Khawaja, Registrar Prof. Nadeem Kasuri, Prof. Dr. Balqis Shabbir, Prof. Dr. Shamsa Humayun, Prof. Dr. Shireen Khawar, MS Gangaram Hospital Dr. Moin, MS Shahdara Teaching Hospital Dr. Frayad, MS Mazing Teaching Hospital, Member of Punjab Assembly Nosheen Adnan, and Farrukh Shah. Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique confirmed the decisions made during the 35th meeting of Fatima Jinnah Medical University. During the syndicate meeting, tribute was paid to Prof. Dr. Kamran Khalid Khawaja for being recognized as the best teacher and Prof. Dr. Balqis Shabbir for receiving the presidential award.
Approval was given during the syndicate meeting for the purchase of biomedical equipment for the under-construction mother and child block. Additionally, Fatima Jinnah Medical University was granted approval to hire cleaning and security services for the next year. Permission was also granted to hire a tax consultant for Academics and an Assistant Registrar for Legal matters.
Government Mazing Teaching Hospital was permitted to acquire genitourinary and security services for the next year. Furthermore, the tender for repairing the HCV system at Government Shahdara Teaching Hospital was approved.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique emphasized the improvement of government teaching hospital labs and the promotion of research in Punjab’s medical universities. He reiterated the commitment to serving the public in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, striving to enhance the conditions of government hospitals.

SC moved for NAP’s implementation

ISLAMABAD, Apr 23 (APP):A petition was moved to the Supreme Court on Tuesday seeking implementation of 2014’s National Action Plan (NAP).
The petition,filed by the Shuhada Forum of Balochistan through its lawyer Hafiz Ahsan Khokhar, prayed the apex court to also issue directives for implementation of the police reforms.
It also prayed the court to issue directives for early decisions in terrorism cases pending in the trial courts. The petition said that protection of witnesses and prosecution in the cases should be ensured as per the international standards.
It also requested the top court to give directions for free education to the children of martyrs and security of their families. It said that the steps should also be taken to stop the promotion of terrorism on social media.
The petition prayed the court to order for legal actions against the responsible for adding terrorists to the list of missing persons for propaganda purposes.

Minister of Health inaugurates operation Theaters Complex at LRH

PESHAWAR, Apr 23 (APP): Minister for Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Syed Qasim Ali Shah, inaugurated the Operation Theaters Complex at Lady Reading Hospital on Tuesday.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of the Board of Governors, Professor Mohammad Zabir Khan, Member of the BOG Asadullah Chamkani, Hospital Director Dr. Mohammad Abrar Khan Khattak, Associate Director Tariq Burki, Medical Director Hameed Shahzad, Nursing Director, and other senior officials who warmly welcomed the Health Minister as the guest.
Minister for Health Syed Qasim Ali Shah inaugurated the modern Operation Theaters Complex during the LRH tour.
According to the LRH spokesperson, Hospital Director Dr. Mohammad Abrar Khan briefed Minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah about the hospital’s functioning. On this occasion, the hospital director provided a detailed explanation regarding the hospital budget, health facility cards, mass emergencies, and financial crises. Chairman of the Board of Governors, Professor Mohammad Zabir Khan, informed Minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah about the establishment of Nursing College and Medical College in LRH for which the health minister assured budget provision.
During this tour, Minister for Health also assured to increase ICU beds in LRH to 100. At the end, Minister for Health Syed Qasim Ali Shah planted a sapling in front of the Medical Surgery, while the hospital administration presented a shield to the guest.

Punjab to welcome Iran’s investment in livestock sector: Maryam; emphasises stronger industrial, agri cooperation

LAHORE, Apr 23 (APP): Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said that the Punjab government would welcome Iranian investment in the value-added livestock market of the province, emphasising stronger bilateral cooperation in industrial and agriculture sectors.
The chief minister, in a meeting with President of Iran Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and his spouse Dr Jamileh-Sadat Alamolhoda at the Governor’s House here, suggested that both countries could earn valuable foreign exchange by establishing MDF zones and promoting halal meat export, according to a press release issued by DGPR.
Referring to the Pak-Iran friendship spanned over decades, the chief minister said that her government wished to carry out economic projects to alleviate poverty.
She told the Iranian president that immense opportunities were available in Punjab for investment in the environment-friendly green energy sector.
Maryam Nawaz felicitated President Raisi on the 45th anniversary of the Islamic revolution of Iran and also conveyed her good wishes for the prosperity and peace of the Iranian people.
President Raisi thanked the Punjab chief minister for according him a warm welcome.
Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, provincial ministers Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Khawaja Salman Rafique, Chaudhry Shafey Hussain, Bilal Yasin, and Iranian Consul General to Lahore Mehran Movahhedfar were present during the meeting.
